Amazing video! Yore first one helped me so much. I was struggling with the first initial boulders and advanced peaks and felt like giving up. I watched your first movement guide and my eyes were opened to the massive amount of height you could jump. I made it to the top of solemn tempest yesterday thank you for helping me get there, what a feeling.
For anyone coming to this now, you should know that this updated guide is also outdated as of the March 15th 1.5.4a patch, which broadly overhauled the movement "exploits" to be less ridiculous. The majority of this video is still very relevant and helpul, but multiple crampon jumps are less powerful, and the pick-swapping/thugging has been severly nerfed. I never tried the old ice pick boosting, so I can't say exactly how much it got nerfed -- there's still some boost gained from reaching with the ice picks, but it seems about the same as the boost from reaching with your hands, so I think that method is basically dead (which IMO is great as it seemed like a headache to add into runs, much less optimize).
Honestly, the stupidest thing that took me way too long to figure out is that you always want to use both hands when doing jumps. Seems obvious in hindsight that you have more strength if you pull yourself up with two hands, but I got into a bad habit of just using one hand at a time and mostly just using swinging and momentum to get anywhere. Somehow made it through the fundamentals and boulders like that until I realized how bad it was. Have since beaten Solemn Tempest for the first time a few days ago, absolutely in love with this game and glad I stuck with it.
Absolutely love the guide and how you explained it. Game seems super intimidating but these videos give a wonderful insight to the potential a beginner could have. Thanks a lot, also with the lantern in the cave area, is there a way to turn it on? Probably a noob question but couldn't figure it out and it was pretty hard to see in there.
You just need to grab the lantern, then your immediate surroundings will be illuminated. It's still pretty dark, but you can see -- try restarting the map and going in without grabbing the lantern to see how dark it is otherwise!
Wait.. something ain't right. 560 subs.. yeahhhh that ain't right, too underrated. btw, when you are falling to your death in you fall you die mode. just alt+f4 before you hit the ground.
Any additional tips to getting used to slippery rocks and crampon jumps timing? having trouble with that. In slippery rocks I seem to have a better time just holding W and getting my hands to a higher position instead of S jumps. And in crampon jumps I do space and THEN crampons, inverse of what you said in the video. My problem is that I do not always jump the same distance consistently, sometimes the jump is very very high, and sometimes just high.
I can think of two movement situations that didn't get a mention in this video: 1. when you have a slippery rock above you, like an overhang, requiring extra mouse movement up, so as to snake your arms around and onto the rock without falling off within half a second. Good example of this was the first slippery rock on the boulder you showcased. Another is just before the halfway point up St. Haelga. 2. Reach around holds, like the ones on Sundered Sons, or the ones at the beginning of St. Haelga A third thing that apparently didn't get a mention, is that if you're anchored to the wall with crampons while climbing on the more permanent grip losing rocks, or just regular crimps for that matter, and let go, your grip stamina will recover just like if you were holding onto a regular rock with both hands, or simply standing on solid ground. Is great for things like Eldenhorn and Ymir's Shadow if it's your first time ascending them.
could you explain what exactly causes some people to be able to get 0.03 second boulders? looks like the timer doesn't start for some reason, what exactly is going on there?
Either they use coffee or some really wacky speedrunning technique or they only grab the holds near the end because the stopwatch time doesn’t start until you grab something.
I don't understand how to do multiple crampon jumps, my first jump is quite high but then the ones after always feel like they're those duds from when you've used crampons more than thrice. What am I missing? Also, does anybody have tips for Solemn Tempest?
In YFYD and Free Solo, do you have to get the true ending (all peaks summited, you become OAS president) to unlock the golden items or just the normal ending (3 Great Tines summited, you become an OAS member)?
Question: can the water around Great Gaol kill you or is it the same as all the rest of the water in the game? I'd like to have a definitive answer before I get there in YFYD

Would you be able to do a brief follow up video explaining what's different about the most recent update?
How do you walk?
You can walk?
Walk? You climb
@@mrgringus916 Yeah, it's this thing the Pierce brothers have to do when they haven't been drinking enough coffee yet. Dunno why they do it.
This game has been a blast playing.
Please make a more in depth ST guide, some of the skips I see you do seems super helpful for someone who has been stuck there for a week.
I Don't understand what he means about the crapon jump i dig in and jump and it dose not work?
you don't dig into the side you just hit control and then space really fast or at the same time
thanks

I really liked the old movement guide's keyboard and mouse overlay it helped me a lot with crampon jumps
how do you even grab was wondering befor i even got the game..?????????

@@Capy301 I don't know if it was like that before (I'm almost certain it was), but the stopwatch starts when you leave the ground.

not even a week and the video is already outdated
What's outdated now?
How do you get the golden suit and ice picks? I've only figured out how to get the golden smoking pipe.
thugging is also useful for quickly gaining horizontal velocity, as it can quickly stack both hand boost and pick swap
Why does he have the most calming voice?
how do you get the golden pipe though??
Beat the time trials for all 10 boulders

No water on any map can kill you in YFYD or FS
