I don't say this often, but you're brilliant, thank you so much kind Sir I encountered 95% of exactly these moves and couldn't know what to do next. I've downloaded your video and will watch it until its imprinted in my memory
Today after getting my second stripe as a white belt, I got pulled to the side and got told by my coach (2nd degree black, 16yr xp and 3 European Championship medals) that even though some of my moves/combos that might be considered ”more advanced” since they require more steps than some of the simpler ones and usually really specific ones too are a bit rough around the edges and not polished enough (due to not just having years of rolling under me yet :D) the principals and the imagination to out-of-the-box applications to techniques we go through are ”astounding for a guy with no wrestling/martial arts” background. I just mentioned that I’ve just been watching instructional videos and choking pillows at home for fun (and clearly building the hype for myself to start.) He laughed and said that he started the same way. And they started wrestling in a forest where the ground was soft enough to roll. Dude’s a beast. So all ”my background” has been you. For much longer than I’ve practised. So I just wanted to say thank you for the content and most importantly inspiration. Can it be true that I might’ve picked something up subconsciously while watching these during my ”BJJ would be cool to do, I better spend a year watching a guy do cool moves on UA-cam first”? Don’t know, but something still kept me drawn into rolling and here we are. Also got humbled as heck when my coach suggested me to start monthly 1on1’s with him to prep me for competitions next year. Always wanted to represent our gym in a tournament against other gyms in the country. So I guess I want to thank you again. Your videos made me start something where I actually get actively recognized for my hard effort and showing up consistently on time and not slacking, which sadly too often isn’t the case in your job or other areas of life.. And to top it off for a story that you wouldn’t believe because it sounds almost too cliché is that I’ve been single for the last 3 years (best years of my life, don’t get me wrong), but felt like ”dropped out” of the dating game and didn’t even feel like meeting new people. 3 months (and 9kg’s less) later after starting with the fundamentals and got into free sparring with advanced classes, I just noticed that some of my confidence had come back because it felt normal and natural like having a convo with a pal. We’re now dating. And she told me that was what she wanted after hanging around for a few months and somewhere along the line realizing ”that my life feels to be in place in many ways yet the mind still lives in a place of peace, and who wouldn’t want to live with a person like that”. I personally feel like the regular, usual me, but hey - I’ll take life changing compliments anyday! I’d rather not try to understand her reasoning since she’s a psychologist and never ”turns into workmode” while with relatives or friends, but her thoughts about things don’t change. Maybe she diagnosed me as a potential mating partner, who knows. Or she just made sure I’m not some animal who trains submissions and takedowns at home in-between classes and uses The Wife™ as ”just a little help so I don’t forget this now” and has to wake her up every time. 🤦🏼♂️ The best part here, and maybe also why I’m telling this to you is that there was literally nothing else besides BJJ (well, a little diet change happened automatically because I started getting hungry as heck because of rolling sometimes 4-5 days a week (2 high intensity sparring and 2-3 drilling ones)). During a rare week like that I try to change partners from a bigger person to as short as available, also short legs and then changing to someone with longer legs to get some muscle memory against those situations). My legs are short and so are my arms. My legs look like two tree trunks and when I first tried doing De La Riva I noticed that I needed to make much more adjustments to get my toes all the way inside the hip to apply pressure for a cleaner takedown (especially against people with longer legs) so I immediately started to change stuff around and that made me to get to know everyone in the gym and made me a handful of new like-minded friends who I really trust. And I thought finding new friends just doesn’t happen/is very rare after finishing your studies in your 20’s.. We seem to live in a world that is connected more than ever, yet the people haven’t ever been lonelier. As a sidebonus I’m still at the -9kg (19lbs) situation keeping the same weight, but my body is transforming to a totally different shape. It was like an A, but it got swept and looks more like a V now! So for the third (lucky) and final time: Thank you! 🥋🙏🏼 I know I made the final decision, signed up and got to hop on this ”Get my shit together by 2021”-campaign by myself, but it was you (and that Open Guard Fundamentals for BJJ -video 5 years ago) that planted the seed. I know thanking someone on YT might be lame as fuck (pardon my French), but I gotta give credit where credit is due. I’m not going to say that you saved my life or anything, but you saved me from a long, troubling battle with depression, weight gain, health problems, loss of confidence etc. You can maybe picture that as pretty solid recipe for a solid downward spiral of whatever abuse of stuff.. I’ll come and thank you again a thousand times when we get a kid/married or if (WHEN!) I win a tournament or reach a belt that truly makes me question myself, sparring, reasons to continue and ultimately my biggest enemy: patience while still showing up to class with a smile and leaving with one. Never underestimate the reach and power of your work. I hope this gave you something to keep being you, just like the little seed of inspiration that got planted 5 years ago. Now it’s nourishing. And it’s nice to finally be the gardener again.
Wow. That’s pretty incredible and humbling to hear all of that. It makes me very happy to know you have been this positively influenced and helped in any way by my videos. I truly appreciate you taking the time out to let me know this. I’ll continue to do my absolute best to keep the quality up and keep producing stuff that might help you and even others in the future. 🙏
Glad I found this...I got surprised by an Ezekiel choke when the other guy was inside my closed guard. It happened so quick, I didn't even think about doing a sweep since his arm was trapped behind my head and unable to base out to stop a sweep. Being a smaller guy, I get smashed like this every now and then by stronger guys; it's good to have these options. Thank you!
My first tournament we were tied on points with one minute left I finally got mount but didn't address both his hands on my lapel caught me with an Ezekiel while I had him mounted smh
i love these. it is so simple. that is a good detail on the gift wrap sweep you show. i think i have done most of these but it is very good overview and flow
Amazing. I am a beginner BJJ, my forte is wrestling, and am heavy, so I do a lot of these things to pressure my opponents. In return, since we all come from the same background, they also do the same. Now I know how to act when these things happen, and know when to stop doing these pressures when I see a reversal coming. Many thanks.
I have had some success with pulling the blade of my wrist into the carotid when I have scooted out to the side ( as opposed to a normal arm triangle or the rear naked style attempt ). Some people tap, some seem immune. Really good guided tour of the position. I get the first two sweeps you show all the time.
Spectacular video! I really enjoy watching your technical expertise and listening to your detailed explainations of the techniques. Thank you very much for doing these videos!
Amazing video. As a new white belt, I’ve had so many opportunities to get these but could never see it until now. You guys have the best instruction. Thank you.
There are some awesome vids on youtube about bjj, but out of them all I totally rank yours and the Rener/Ryron Gracie vids as the best. Thank you for your gifts to us. You have a great vibe too!
"You dont have to be strong, fast, or flexible. You just have to keep moving." This is true. eventually the opp gets tired and makes a mistake, giving you a dominant position ready for submission.
top de mais meu amigo, tive que parar o video no meio so pra comentar e elogiar ... top of the page, my friend, I had to stop the video in the middle just to comment and praise

+Carlo Rusconi I think the priority should be defending against damage and looking for the first opportunity to sweep, submit or get up - whichever comes first. Thanks!

Always learning new awesome stuff from your videos, thank you so much. One question: when the opponent was leaning with his forearm on my throat, and grabbed one wrist with his other hand, I had trouble popping him off with one arm trapped (the guy is about 15kg heavier). I’d try to free that wrist grip first probably if that were the case. He can’t be terribly stable in his base with both arms connected to you inside your guard, so off balancing him would be possible too.
+Kris Martin Thanks! Since I am a student of Royce Gracie, his association, along with the Valente brothers use the blue field to distinguish from IBJJF. It’s nothing personal, and I respect everyone, but just showing loyalty and repping my instructor.

"You dont have to be strong, fast, or flexible. You just have to keep moving." This is true. eventually the opp gets tired and makes a mistake, giving you a dominant position ready for submission.

Knight Jiu-Jitsu As I have seen strong defensive formations are all where torque is at it's max.
I've been wanting to practice the art here in PR, I just don't find somewhere near me. Even less at an affordable price.
I think I've been watching all sorts of style of fights and I have to admit that bjj seems like the most effective one in my understandings.
Great video. Thank you.
Great video. Love the Gi
Thank you! So do I. DaFirma Kimonos are good to me.

Awesome Guy
i should have watched this before class...
the pendulum sweep/armbar combination really helped me with the rolls yesterday. we do no gi on Tuesdays and I was wondering what are some of the best way to have grips with no gi. wrists or triceps maybe?
Either wrist or tricep can work. Sometimes even a collar tie grip on the neck can work for this one no gi as well.
@@KnightJiuJitsu thank you so much will incorporate this.
Always learning new awesome stuff from your videos, thank you so much.
One question: when the opponent was leaning with his forearm on my throat, and grabbed one wrist with his other hand, I had trouble popping him off with one arm trapped (the guy is about 15kg heavier). How would you deal with it?
I’d try to free that wrist grip first probably if that were the case. He can’t be terribly stable in his base with both arms connected to you inside your guard, so off balancing him would be possible too.
Nice video!
Out of curiosity why do you have a blue bar on your black belt?
+Kris Martin Thanks! Since I am a student of Royce Gracie, his association, along with the Valente brothers use the blue field to distinguish from IBJJF. It’s nothing personal, and I respect everyone, but just showing loyalty and repping my instructor.
Cool! Yeah I was just curious
great sir
