    What is wrong with being the most improved student on a clerkship? How is that a red flag? Sure it might mean the person was pretty terrible as a student so they showed improvement, but still its a sign that the person can make massive improvements.

      I agree with you totally. However, programs are looking for stars, not possible stars. That's been my experience. Program directors are NOT going to invest their time trying to grow you. They see that as your duty and yours alone, which I find ridiculous, but it happens to be true.

    Everyone has a right to waive or not to waive. That should not affect an application. Again, someone who scored high in the USMLE should be looked down on because they left medical school a long time ago. Many IMGs leave med school and some have been practicing for years in their countries before deciding to write the Steps and emigrate to the US. So year of graduation should not be a factor, but each application should be considered based on it's merit.
