  • "What Residency Programs Want... Not What You Want" is a fascinating presentation by a former University of Illinois Chicago's Internal Medicine residency admission committee member. Dr. Gaston Ponte, then a 2nd year resident, has since graduated from UIC and completed an Endocrinology fellowship. Dr. Ponte is now a board certified Endocrinologist.

A hands-on US experience is crucial.

You're quite welcome. So sorry I missed this comment. Completing several clinical rotations in the specialty you're applying to is EXTREMELY important, not just for LORs, but also to ensure that you like how we practice this specialty in the U.S. Plus, it provides great interview content, which will help you greatly during the interview season.

How many years did you study in USA and what hospitals did you work in.

What to do when a former residency program director tells you to sue the University? Corruption in #ACGME programs disgusts me. honesty matters, patient care matters, but lying to the #ACGME is the custom and practice of some residency programs.

***** Thank you kindly sir. I had a fine experience with the first one for internship, and then for two years, when there was a new boss, there were some disagreements. Thank you again for your comment and best wishes.

How do you mean? Why would a former residency program director ask you to sue the university? How do you mean by corruption in ACGME? Please enlighten me or let me know if you'd rather discuss this over private message. Thank you so much for your time!

Not rocket science ladies and gentlemen. 1- high step . not step or 3 to make up for step 1. some programs dont even require step 3 till you're in residency. 2- see number one 3- All of the above.

Thanks for your input. Although USMLE scores are popular and important factors, they're not the only factors. Also not sure if I'd recommend minimizing every residency candidate's approach to US medical residency down to high USMLE scores. On both 2018 PD Survey (mk0nrmpcikgb8jxyd19h.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/NRMP-2018-Program-Director-Survey-for-WWW.pdf) and Charting Outcomes in the Match (mk0nrmpcikgb8jxyd19h.kinstacdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Charting-Outcomes-in-the-Match-2018-IMGs.pdf), we can see that there are many many more factors than just USMLE scores that selection committees choose to invite candidates for interviews (some which are much more important than scores). I invite everyone to review, and feel free to reply! Dr. Mizani
