A Psychological Analysis of Inside Out

- A breakdown of the psychological themes and messages in Pixar's Inside Out. Emotions help us understand how we relate to others. Without our own personal sad experiences, we wouldn't be able to help those in need. Sometimes being overly positive can be a bad thing. Sadness is a necessary component of happiness. Inside Out has a lot to say about the power of our emotions and what happens when we suppress them.

I don't really think there's a villain, Joy and the other emotions just want Riley to be her safe and well herself and while some of the things Joy did were very bad like trying to toss away Sadness core memory and leaving Sadness behind behind during the weakening of family island, However Each emotion here is at their core what they Joy was made to be happy and Sadness was made to be sad ect. So it's more of a journey to Maturity rather than being a villain since the main plot starts when Riley is 11 and that is an age where kids begin to mature and in the beginning with Riley's childhood they have some aspects of Riley's childness like how anger was quickly passified after the dad did the airplane. The emotions, they grow and mature with with Riley so I think there really isn't a villain per say but more of a character coming of age story.
This is so good. I was too young when I watched this movie to fully understand how good it is. This really opened my eyes. Explained perfectly
I really like how you broke everything down into understandable pieces. Everything in "Inside Out" actually makes sense for a typical child and what happens when someone suppresses their feelings. Everything just connects together in "Inside Out" with some creativity added!
Joy annoyed me so much bc not everything can be fixed. it's okay to not be okay
Exactly! That’s such a great way to put it!
Still without joy rilly couldn't be happy in her world
Your videos are underrated barry 💕 This is trully fascinating to hear about psychology
Thanks so much I really appreciate the kind words :)
Beautiful analysis this movie always makes me emotional. RIP Bing Bong :’(
Rip Bing Bong. You will be missed :( thanks for the kind words

This is one reason I love this movie
Yeah me too. It's one of the only Disney movies to do a deep dive on psychology. So cool!
Inside out💛💙💜💚❤️
I see what you did there!

@@TheHatGuy1500 I'm saying you made each heart a color of the emotion in the movie!
Joy really is the true villain, but I think bing bong being the original villain and eventually letting himself go as a redemption letting Joy escape without him trying to cling on
Why do you think that Bing Bong is the original enemy? To me what makes Joy a villain is her unwavering conviction and controlling tendencies. I feel like Bing Bong is depressed, but not antagonistic if that makes sense.
@@verybarry3317 oh I’m sorry, I forgot to mention that it was the original plan, and his sacrifice would’ve been the redemption to his arc, which I think would’ve made the story more compelling and flesh them out more, plus it does explain why he was collecting memories, and maybe he could’ve showed Joy the dark path of trying to override the system
Wow that is a cool concept. I agree about how rewarding that interaction would feel for Bing Bongs character. It’d be really cool if he messed with the system, but didn’t realize it hurt Riley. Cause I feel like at his core he really is filled with love and sweetness lol
Very interesting, yet contradictory to what my first impression was with Inside Out. Right off the bat, I perceived Sadness as the villain and Joy as the hero.
Great video super informative!
Thank you 🙏
I’ve only seen this once so it’s about time I got a refresh
Glad I can help haha. Did you like the movie?
Bing Bong. He was a cool character.
Yeah he was a hero :(
Riley is so perfect 😍😢

I want Insideout 2 but unfortunately we will have to wait 16 years as it was with the incredible ones 💔💔💔💔😞 this is the biggest problem of pixar it only focuses on making new franchises and doesn't care about existing ones that were successful I think even soul won't have a continuation before 2029 honestly expensive they should work harder and focus on bringing a second film to all the franchises that have not had a continuation until today and I'm not just talking about Insideout has zootopia for example which is another film that I like most unfortunately pixar does not receive suggestions from fans much less listen they think that when we have Insideout 2 and alma 2 we will be almost 30 years old i am 14 and i love pixar by heart the only pixar franchise that i know that has more than 2 films is toy story but I don't like toy story. well that's my opinion i hope pixar changes and one day listen the old fans even had a calendar for example next year they launched a new franchise and in 2023 they made a movie of an existing franchise i don't know how long it takes making an animation is probably a lot more difficult but it would be nice and would please fans every 2 years maybe 😪😞✊🏻 I still dream of a continuation for several animations and Insideout is one of them for you to see Insideout is from 2015 it's hard in pixar.💔😞
Yeah I get what you mean about Pixar not doing follow ups for certain movies. I love Zootopia too! Thanks for sharing your opinion :)
@@verybarry3317 Kind of sad too. Puberty is when things get really really interesting.
Honestly, I believe Inside Out should stand as it's own. I fear that a sequel would tarnish and belittle the great masterpiece this was only for money.
They announce inside out 2 in 2024

No. Joy is a flawed protagonist. Like most, if not all of Pixar’s protagonists
