I always thought that the mom’s dominant emotion is Sadness because Sadness has matured to Empathy, and the Dad’s Anger has matured into Drive/Confidence

I read that child psychologists were heavily involved in making the movie and it shows! This film does a nice job visualizing things like the pre-frontal cortex in the frontal lobe where decision-making takes place. And terms like “long-term memory” and the subconscious are so visually well done. What’s so special about this movie is how one of the central themes is the importance of processing all of your emotions, and the importance of sadness and how to cope healthily with its effects. I agree about the mom for the happy girl scene, but I don’t think she meant to hurt or put pressure on Riley. I love that they played Haunted Mansion ride music and an it’s a small world theme when memories are transferred to long term. It’s so fascinating how the part of the brain that processes emotions (the amygdala) is personified with these different emotions and how it plays into decision-making in this movie. I love the contrast of warm tones in her old home and the cold grey, foggy tones of San Fransisco. They also help establish Riley’s feelings. I love how this movie visually shows us the importance of sadness and with one potent line. Bing Bong’s death always makes me sob. The symbolism of letting go of childhood. His sacrifice helps allow Riley to grow. It was also clever how she became really depressed and fear said “We can’t make Riley feel anything” and sadness comes to the rescue. I love how Riley smiles after that big cry - since crying is healthy and helps release endorphins.
I’m really excited for the second movie since anxiety is one of the main emotions and Riley is growing up. This series is going to turn into the new Toy Story series. We watch the human characters Andy and Riley grow up.

Yes, I love your thoughts, Alex! Which potent line do you mean?

@@DoctorPeter the most potent line in the first movie is “mom and dad came to help because of sadness.” It’s such a simple yet powerful line.

Such an interesting video! The Bing-Bong scene is always sad, no matter how many times I watch it. 😭Also, I really like your editing. I heard good things about the sequel to Inside Out, so I'm curious to see how it holds-up compared to the first one

This was such a wonderful reaction video. I really appreciate the insight from you not only as a doctor, but as a fan of movies and storytelling as well, who can appreciate artistic license and nuance and not get caught up on facts and reality. "One of the signs of depression is not finding interest in things that used to bring you joy." That one hit me. You talking about Inside Out is making me do an outside in! And I'm gonna pretend that you put the 'doctors in the hallway' bit in there just for me because that's one of my things from any movie. I really hope that Pete Docter gets the privilege and honor of meeting you someday. 💛

I just started to read something for my significant other before we both go to sleep because he didn't have that growing up and I noticed exactly what you talked about that he is coming to me more for little things I had told him from day one in our relationship I was there for him but spending that extra time at the end of both our days proved it. (also thanks for giving me a better and less cheesy way to explain why reading to kids is good I told him it was essential to growth and helped the bond to our parents when I almost started crying at hearing him say he didn't get a bed time story growing up and said it was cheesy) It saddens me deeply that I'm healing that inner child that he never had a parent read to him to take that extra time to show love I know his dad was doing his best and that included just praying with my SO before bed before tucking him in. I am glad though that I am able to be his bing bong and that with his therapist that I'm helping that inner child feel safe which in turn makes him feel safe and loved

your channel name is honestly the reason why i clicked on this video 😂😂i was like, “omg, a guy with the name ‘doctor pete’, reacting to a movie directed by ‘pete docter’ is so hilarious!” lmao😂😂😂i loved your analysis and review though. especially when you mentioned childhood development. i found that super interesting and i hadn’t realized some of those things before, as im not a doctor lol. i kind of wish this video was a little bit longer than 20 minutes lol, it would’ve been fun to see your reaction to the whole movie. and you are correct, the writers and producers actually worked on the film with psychologists and experts and stuff like that. which is why it’s so well done. they worked really hard on this movie and it shows. same with inside out 2. they worked with teenagers and psychologists to write that movie as well. random but i also love joy so much. i love her character and everything about her. it’s interesting how you were pointing out how she gathered the core memories BEFORE grabbing sadness’s hand when goofball island was collapsing. which, yeah, i noticed that lol. and when she was freeing bing bong from the balloon cage. i see why she did that. the core memories are/were super important to joy, that was basically her number 1 priority. i was 13 when this movie came out in theaters in 2015 and its been ONE OF my favorite pixar movies ever since

@@DoctorPeter you’re welcome!! and yeah lol, i figured that there’s probably a lot of crying in your reaction 😂😂and yeah, sometimes i can notice small details like that sometimes but not all the time. i’m a pretty observant person lol. and oh, okay that’s interesting, thanks for telling me about that, but unfortunately i probably won’t be watching that video since im not really into horror movies lol. but yeah thanks anyway! u tried, lol. and i like how you noticed my name, haha. alison😊

What a coincidence! I just saw your name and thought you named yourself after Peter Docter who is the director of Inside Out 1 and 2. But apparently it's just a coincidence you have a similar name.
