Symbiotic Connections
A short documentary on the symbiotic relationships all around us. The natural world is so essential for our well-being. Without a plethora of amazing creatures and plants, we would have no medicine, food, or other vital resources. Unfortunately, mass consumption and pollution are devastating the earth. Billions of animals have been killed or displaced from recent wildfires. Our coral reefs are getting bleached at unprecedented rates, As average global temperatures continue to rise weather patterns will become more erratic. Luckily, every one of us has the capacity to make a meaningful difference. Investing in renewable energy sources can help mitigate harm to nearby areas. Supporting reforestation nonprofits helps proliferate forests. Even small choices like recycling or caring for plants help in the long run. Using the earth as our guide we can learn how to coexist with nature in a nonexploitative manner.

If I might offer a suggestion for future endeavours: Please work on your elocution. Your voice is very slurred, you mumble a lot and your tone is monotonous and a bit rushed. It’s crazy because I’ve loved that movie my whole life, since the age of 6, now that I’m 20 I’m going through exactly what Coraline was going through, I live at home with my dysfunctional family, I don’t really have a life yet, I don’t have any friends, and on top of that I live in a very isolated area, so I started miss-using weed to cope at 17, which led me to a lot of unfortunate situations, and worsened my already difficult issues, that’s what using substances to cope does to you, it simply makes things way worse; psychologically I’m struggling right now, but I’m already putting that effort on cultivating my life, I’m putting real effort on becoming better, right now I feel unstable, but with time I hope things get genuinely better, without the need of substances, I can’t wait to live again, thank you for your video, it helped me see my situation way differently.

    What makes mother 2 a narcissist? Have you read the Dsm5TR criteria for the disorder or do people just throw the term around? (Don't get me wrong. The other mother is evil), but is she a true narcissist? I'm not sure. Maybe, she's more antisocial.

    • @verybarry3317
      @verybarry3317 4 місяці тому

      From the criteria I’ve read from the DSM5 all the symptoms seem to match from my pov at least. Lack of empathy: Other Mother doesn’t care if Coraline is happy or not only that she is in control. A sense of entitlement: OM captures her parents even though she isn’t a real parental figure herself. Arrogance and Self importance are pretty self explanatory. Need for excessive admiration: OM does everything in her power to make Coraline fawn over her. When she is neglected attention then she resorts to violence. Interpersonally exploitative and envious: OM takes away all of Coraline’s social resources because she can’t compete with them outside of hollow gestures. I’m not saying she is “diagnosed” with NPD. All I’m saying is based on the evidence you can make a strong case that many of OM’s behaviors map onto the DSM5 criteria. Also thanks for sharing your pov! I agree it can be harmful to use terminology erroneously. I usually try to do a lot of research beforehand so I don’t conclude this person has this disorder etc,

    i actually do not agree with this. to me the gameplay or the music could represent various kinds of stress you encounter in life and shouldnt be only viewed through the trans lens. the feeling of being alone, that is, socially alienated or isolated and feeling like you dont belong in your skin, anxiety and suffering are a part of universal human experience and most people could relate to such a feeling, its as primal as fear. i feel like the decision by the developers to get the game labeled as the "experience of being trans" has hindered it in its artistic weight

    • @verybarry3317
      @verybarry3317 9 місяців тому

      Once a piece of art is released to the public the artist’s intentions are irrelevant. How the audience views art is what matters. What you said about feelings of loneliness, anxiety, or social alienation are also experiences common for trans people. If you don’t appreciate the trans narrative you don’t have to interpret the game in that way. I do think a trans main character is valuable for so many people.

    Enough with the bs theory that fight club is about gayness. It’s not.. it was not the intent of the writer or the Director. And yes, the person who wrote the book is a homosexual. That does not mean that the movie has anything to do with that. In fact, he said it didn’t. That’s just how some people want to perceive it.

    The problem with Fight Club is that there are a couple of views from which to approach it. It doesn't preach to people like so many of today's movies. I do believe that the LGBTQ approach to Fight Club is very valid, especially after Chuck Palahniuk came out. There is also the Capitalism approach to Fight Club and the emasculation of men in general approach. Movies that are open to multiple interpretations are often the most interesting but also retain the power to make people uncomfortable years later. One movie that may be of interest to you to do a review of is 'Cruising' with Al Pacino from 1980. It actually is a bit of a forgotten movie these days. Many LGBTQ's these days have never even heard of it. One thing that fascinates me about Cruising is that, if one looks at the Gay community from two views: aesthetics and activism, then the community of gay men that is presented in Cruising is 100% aesthetics and 0% activism. The outside world simply doesn't mean anything to them. They are tribal in nature and tribal identification is easy for them due to the aesthetic. Cruising is a murder thriller which makes it unique amongst gay-themed movies. As such, it features lots of nighttime photography, which is a staple of the murder thriller genre. In this case though, the nighttime scenes serve a purpose ala' Fight Club in that this is the space in which these men can be themselves. They also have daytime lives but only out of necessity and not with any authenticity. Like the men of Fight Club, the men of Cruising are nocturnal and move through the New York scene of the late 1970's like leather-clad werewolves with saving the world and social justice being the last thing on their minds. In that sense, it is a movie that has become a kind of time capsule for a particular Gay scene that no longer exists.

    OMG I just came across this video and I must say, you did an amazing job covering everything Luca has to offer in terms of its message and story. :') This was an extremely well-thought out analysis, and I couldn't agree more with your points of the film being an allegory for being LGBT. I don't think there's ever been a Disney or Pixar film that I've ever related to as much as this one. To be completely honest, Luca was one of the first films that led me to fully accept and realize that I'm bi, simply due to how much I related to the story, the characters, and their struggles of feeling alienated by the society they live in (a struggle I still feel often on a daily basis). Everything resonated with me so much and touched me so deeply, I still get brought to tears every single time I watch, or even think about Luca. :'( Luca is just breathtaking in so many ways, and it genuinely makes me sad that no one ever seems to talk about it anymore. To me, it's a beautiful heartwarming masterpiece that deserves all the love and attention in the world. <3 Plus, there's no denying just how sweet, wholesome, and adorable Luca and Alberto's relationship is, whether it's interpreted as a friendship or a romance. The way they care about each other so deeply is enough to bring anyone to tears. They kind of remind me of WALL-E and EVE from WALL-E, just through how much pure love and caring-ness they have for one another. I personally interpret Luca and Alberto's relationship as a romance, or at least the BEGINNING of a romance. There are many subtle signs of this throughout the film, with the two going through pretty much EVERY single romantic trope I can think of (the bittersweet goodbye, Alberto's never-ending protectiveness of Luca, the two watching a beautiful sunset together, watching the stars together, the fact that the two were planning on RUNNING AWAY TOGETHER...the list goes on). But the part that convinced me the most that Alberto had a crush on Luca, was actually a piece of art that was shown during the end credits. Luca's family, as well as Alberto, are talking with Luca over the phone. If you look closely, you can clearly see Alberto smiling and blushing over hearing Luca's voice as Luca's grandmother gives Alberto a look that seems to say "You've got a crush, don't you?😏" If you look at that particular art piece in the end credits, you'll know what I mean!😅 That was the moment where I thought, "Okay, there's NO way the creators didn't know what they were doing in this movie." Speaking of Alberto, the way he acts around Luca throughout the film reminds me a LOT of how I acted around one of my first same-gender crushes I had when I was nine. There was this girl in my class whom I really liked, who I would always try to impress and look cool around. I also felt really protective of her and tended to get...REALLY jealous whenever I saw her hanging out with any of the students in class other than me. So yeah...nine-year-old me would definitely have related to Alberto in that regard. XD Anyways, I know I'm super late to this video, but I ultimately wanted to say thank you for making this video and sharing your insight on this wonderful film. It helped me a lot in articulating in my mind, the reason I love Luca so much and why it why is resonates with me the way it does. Excellent work! :D Edit: fixed a few grammar mistakes. :) Also, thank you so much to anyone who read my full essay! <3

    as a middle eastern trans person i really loved celeste it made me feel like im not alone especially bc i struggle with anxiety and other stuff (that i dont feel comfortable sharing here) especially bc lgbtqia+ in the middle east is a big no no i found the ending to me being a message that everything will turn for the best but i just have to fight through it (now obviously for alot of people unfortunately that isn't the case and depression anxiety etc is a part of me and many others that we can't just ignore but we can only face it and try to look at the bright side)

    Thank you for making this video! I tried Celeste because i saw so many memes about it from trans people. I couldn't keep up so I decided to watch a story summary which did well on touching on emotional self love themes. However, that alone didn't really explain why other trans people resonated so much with the game aside from covering that Madeline is cannonically trans. This video did a good job explain why trans gamers love this game so much so truly again, thank you
