Hi Eli
You know, among that long list of "Old projects that were fun at the time but oooooh man oh man", there's an awful lot of clamp spring crossbows that need successful grandkids to keep the legacy alive...
Love what you do brother!
Ayyy sponsorship coming through🎉
Is alpha mail still open because I want to send you things
I recall Burny Sander from a while ago. I did not anticipate Explodie Sander to be his next of kin.
You gotta redeem yourself for that weak karambit you made all those years ago.
And the wrench balisong
Hey cmon that was freakishly sharp and it’s supposed to be a small blade😂
Haha yeah gota erase the shame
Man it feels like just yesterday watching the video for the first time when he uploaded it. How time flies
😂
Has wood working sander: Does metal work with it
Buys new metal working sander: Does wood working with it
I came here to comment this lmao
i saw that too lmao
I’m pretty sure the goal there was the guard being ground down rather than the wood
I remember that video from when I was but a youngling.
I've watched zna since i was a child. I'm now three years into university (slightly less a child). I love you man 🫶🏾 don't die or talk to kids plz
real
If Eli turned out to be a predator I'd lose faith in every single one of my heroes. He's literally the last person I'd ever believe could do that
Real. First of his vids I watched was the razor blade swords from 8 years ago. Jesus it’s been a long time
same here i’m two years out of high school and these videos have been a constant staying thing in my life since i was in like second grade
Real
13:10 a word of advice: if you want to clean your sanding belts properly without buying special eraser check if you have a tube of silicone caulk that has dried out inside. That block of silicone will work for cleaning belts like a big eraser. If you don’t have an expired tube of caulk you can buy fresh one and pour it in a cup or a can.
i just had a google around an they seem to be very similar prices( proper belt sander erasers were 10-15$aud vs a tube of silicone is 6-12 $aud)
great idea!
@@tpoad0079 yea but an eraser is usually bigger than a tube of caulk and no hastle. Cool tip but seems like an even trade still. Good use for hardened caulk though
@@nateauld hardened caulk hehe
@@nateaulddepending on where you live that eraser can be more expensive than caulk and much harder to find. Caulk is usually available in pretty much any home improvement store, even a small one.
The rubber of old shoes works too
Every once in awhile it feels like Eli hits a turning point in his life that gets reflected in his videos. Sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse, but that's just life.
Brother ever since you became a family man it feels like you've stepped into your role as a true leader. Your recent videos are so positive and encouraging, and with this series it's like you're coming to terms with where you started and who you used to be. Not many people can let go of that insecurity and accept that where you started is not what matters. I'm excited to see where you go from here, and just want you to know that you've always inspired the rest of us to grow and improve, even if it's just a little since yesterday.
Theres a starrrrrrmaaaaaann waiting in the sky
The shot of you polishing the blade with the secondary bevel gleaming in the light is actually so sick
Bro it's 4 AM and I haven't slept yet. But ain't no way I'm waiting for this one
13:36 might be the most cinematic scenes I've ever seen you make, and I've been here since the start. Glad to see you're still kicking it Eli! Keep improving, and may god be with you.
Completely agree!! I literally thought the same thing as I saw the glimmer run up that blade.
I was thinking the same thing - the thin, glinting edge contrasting in the scene? Absolute cinema
9,000% agree on the brass/gold & black combo. Gotta be one of the hardest duos in colors history
That trick with the clamp was pretty neato
So glad you're still making videos! I always watch them over and over!
I love the revisiting old projects arc of this channel. Never stop flexing on your old self
All these years later and he still doesn’t have a proper forge. Gotta respect the dedication to the jank
I can't tell if this is the best channel on yt or just my favorite
I love watching and supporting content creators that don't hate me and everything I stand for
Funniest thing about you thinking you were "bad" and "the stuff" is my 10 year old self thought you were too 😂😂😂
same, man 😂
Loving the frequent uploads 🙌
I love to see how far you've come. Your technique, your design, your editing, it all has come so far. Thank you for continuing to do this
If your remaking projects why not remake some of your old armour
maybe with some cleaner(clearer) tutorials for those of us wanting to make our own? ;)
Its so weird seeing these throwback videos. I feel like ive grown up with you. I remember being like 14 looking up homemade weapon tutorials on youtube and coming across non-lethal by choice. I turn 28 next week and i still tell myself that one day i might follow one of these step by step guides and try to build something myself. Thanks for keeping at it and being as entertaining as you are the whole time. Above all else, thanks for being a decent human being (as far as i can tell)
I've said it many times before, but the PVC and fiberglass driveway marker bow era was my favourite and how I found your channel back in the day. I am very excited for you to eventually revisit them for this series.
Bro I remember your first videos. I was young too and still found all of your builds cool. The saw blade launcher though, that thing was insane. Never gonna stop watching.
Watching ZNA since i was a kid. Now im watching ZNA as my newborn sleeps just across the room. Born today. Thanks for all the grwat content over the years brother. Keep on
Congrats man.
Love your content!
Seeing you still clip off/saw off parts instead of forging it to shape or grinding away the material.. hurts my soul haha
Man I gotta say. I love how far you've come and how your growing both as a person and in the videos you make, but at the same time, your keeping the same kind of vibe aesthetic. I watched you when I was younger and hearing the same music is just nostalgic. Thank you for the good memories and the enjoyable videos
Do something with so little for so long, and you can learn to do anything with nothing.
Eli does it best. Man, if I had the time, I'd do it like this. Even after fourteen years, I'm still invested in everything Eli does. I haven't missed a video yet.
Stray simply not from a path that leads to the ease of life; create, instead, a challenge to overcome thyself and all other difficulties.
Much love, Eli - we love everything you do!
I really love how far the channel has come over the years and it’s awesome to see you revisit where it started. Keep up the great work brother
One of your videos got me started in blacksmithing. You made a forge from a hole in the ground. It inspired me. Since then, I've made at least 100 knives. Probably more. Thank you sir
Intro goes insanely hard when you're dancing on sore feet
Yo, thanks for showing a comparative difference between a hardened and non-hardened piece of steel. It's the little things. Very nice.
its really cool that even with this video being like a 'victory lap' over your previous build, you are are still trying new techniques
Those throwing squares seemed bigger when you made them, but I guess that's just what happens when you find the cure for smallpoc.
honestly love the aesthetic on this build, big chunky handle looks so nice with the ebony and bronze
I once found one hundred thousand gold marks in a bag in the park… changed my life.
I took those gold marks, invested them and turned them into 16,000 gold marks.
I don't know why but the shot at around 8:59 with the dim background natural light just looks great.
Also the way the edge of the blade pops out at 13:37 is just 👌
Alrighty sir, you tickled my 3rd generation machinist nerve with that clamp trick. Being a hobby blacksmith for 10 years… it’s just as brilliant.
Blessed day
So weird. I found this channel around the first time i made a knife from junk around the house. I just recently got back into making fun weapons because i too just got that same grinder. Just made a knife like my first one this last couple weeks. So glad i found your channel again. It's nice to see how far you've come.
Man, smoothest ad transition ever, I didn't even realize it until he mentioned the link in the description
Man, been watching your videos since your homemade weapons videos. Haven’t really watched that much since like 5 years ago, saw this pop up today and was glad to see it. Glad to see you sticking with your dreams and just wanted to say thank you for all the videos and work you’ve put in for so long man
I’ve always said revisiting content for new audiences and old is always a good time .
Dude I just randomly thought about you today because it’s been a few years since I watched your videos. But I was there for it all. I watched your videos at like 14-15 dreaming of having a toilet furnace. Making knives. The saw blade things were always my favorite. I’m so happy to see you’re still uploading. And perfect timing with this series. Much love man. Thank you for being such a pivotal part of high school for me.
We miss you Eli, I check my notifications every day. We'll watch literally anything you put out, even if it's just a sit-down-and-talk.
Love these videos! It's so cool to see how much you have learned and changed and how you would do things differently now compared to then.
Man I've been watching you for what feels like a decade now. Love all your content. I wish we could get stuff like this more frequently!
those were some awesome sounds during the anvil time lapse, mesmerising
they way the light caught the edge during the polish *chefs kiss*
I've been rewatching your videos in preparation for this series. I think we all deserve a saw blade slinger or OG Warhammer recreate. Those designs were super cool and interesting back then, so who knows what you could do with them now. God bless.
I'm always happy to see a post of my favorite blacksmemeith
One of the most important parts about welding is planning out your welds, this also includes soldering. I have not used soldering all too much, but I have made some good looking copper jewelry for a lady "friend".
One of the things to keep in mind as a top priority, for example having it as part of a checklist. Is "where can you hide it the best?" Solder on jewelry for example looks pretty nasty if not hidden pretty good.
All of this is to say that it would probably have been better to solder it from the base of the tang on the handle side. If you want it to gripp really good and you have some nice flux you can even file in some hidden grooves in the parts for the solder to fill (that also increases surface area that the solder can grip onto).
Think about making a general priority list of something like 3 steps, that's enough to get a great workflow and not so much that you end up over-thinking.
If done as so the solder would not have been visable, I don't think that it looks bad as is, but if you are close to a perfectionist, like me. Then it could probably save you a tiny bit of annoyance and generate a bit more pride in some of your projects.
I have followed you since you made your first "homemade weapons", you have been a great inspiration and almost like a big brother to me through the years. Thank you.
i gotta say i have been on and off your channel for years now, back when you were on the chair at your old place, glad to still be a subscriber to this day
Been watching since your Krieg Buzzaxe video. Been fun seeing how much better you’ve gotten as we’ve gotten older man 🙌
I remember watching your old videos as a kid especially the one with the slightly rusty helmet and it inspired me to create my own armor and weapons So I started using cardboard and ducktape to start building armor pieces and had some good fun.
Glad you're still doing your thing bro. Takes me back to what the youtubes used to be.
you man are one of my inspirations to start doing things
from bows and arrows
now to a forge
i'm learning such a wide spectrum of 'making things'
i'm learning how to use and apply concrete, how to mount things securely, in the next month i'll be building a roof over my forge and finishing up the stairs to it (forge in old destroyed pool)
i realised that this whole thing started with me loving weaponry and making weaponry - no - with me just MAKING i love making things that work and are useful
thank you
Been watching this dude since middle school and I’m now a college student. Crazy.
I love you lol your humor is perfect and seemingly effortless lol it's so cool to have watched you way back when and seeing you come back with these videos❤
A SPONSORRRRRR!!!!! THATS MY UA-camR!!!!!!!!!!!!
bro i remember watching you in middle school and now i am in my junior year of college. life is crazy.
Holy Cow! You went from playing with sticks to making actual knives! 😮💨👌👌👌
I just finished the video… But dang, I’d buy one.
Hey Eli idk if you'll see this but you have been a HUGE INSPO almost my whole life. I've been watching since the beginning and now I'm 22 and still love your content
You've inspired me over the years to get better by watching you improve all this time. Keep it up, man! You da bomb!
Been a fan since day one, the growth brother. I’m happy for you and your achievements
Only channel on youtube i dont fast forward over ads for
Eli I’m trying to sleep, cool hat though
I was just about to ask where the steppy hammer was and BOOM there it is lol
Me too. And he delivered!
Man, if that's the same belt sander you got to replace "Burny Sander" (A.K.A. The sander that tried to burn your garage down) then I was around to witness the addition of that tool, and it's death. Wild how time flies
Find it mad I used to watch this 9 years ago I literally grew up watching this
watching your "how to make a knife" When i was growing up i thought alot about how you said "i wasnt put on this earth to do the bare minimum and then freaking die". glad to see that thats still something you abide by yourself 😎
Damn, so used to slow uploads that I forgot to check and now have 3 vids to watch. Nice 😂
Man it’s so great to see my boy after all these years! Keep it up, man! 👍
I'm admittedly not a bladesmith, so take what I'm about to say for what it's worth. But I'd have forged it differently and relied on diagrams of how traditional tantos were made. For one thing, the blade is laminated with a high carbon steel edge and a low carbon steel spine. The kissaki, or tip, is cut at an angle and hammered back to expose the high carbon steel and make a durable tip. Before the formation of the kissaki, the bevelling is hammered in, which forms the diamond shape you'll end up seeing in the kissaki. Some katana designs do incorporate medium carbon steel, but I'm sure you get the picture. Like I said, I am by no means an experienced bladesmith, I just appreciate the process and think you could learn a thing or two from Ilya Alekseyev, who's knowledgeable about bladesmithing from Medieval Times to present day and blades from European to Asian design.
you can say the wobble on the bevel is a homage to the hamon line on the katanas that happen from the diffirential hardening
Let’s go love to see a sponsorship, ZNA back on top
Nice to see that you're still active and having fun
11:15 I LOVE THIS COPYRIGHT FREE SONG SO MUCH ITS LIKE A ZNA PRODUCTIONS STAPLE
you’ve inspired me in over the years, I’m currently in Trade school for mechatronics because of your channel and other channels like King of Random, Forgotten Weapons, etc.
Hope you have an amazing rest of the year, and a amazing holidays- sincerely another Eli :)
ZNA as soon as I wake up is a good day no matter what happens
Jeeze, I remember that video well. The Nonlethalbychoice days are pure nostalgia.
that looks pretty good man, glad to see such major improvements in craftsmanship from your early days...
my only suggestion here is some sort of lip or nub on the handle to stop the knife slipping backwards in your hands when you stab something.
it's a thing during some murders where they caught the guy in part because he was using a kitchen knife and his hands slid up the handle and onto the blade, cutting his fingers pretty badly.
most knives have a sort of guard plate or crossguard on them, whilst some others like Kukris have a protrusion on the handle that fits between the middle and ring fingers.
Now all it needs is a matching sheath!
14:49 i would agree with the assessment that you could’ve done better BECAUSE despite how beautiful this looks, you are so *incredibly* talented and you could absolutely kill this if you did it again
I think both are good. If that makes me a trashy person, I don't care. The only requirement that a knife really needs to satisfy is that it cuts things and feels good in your hand. Looking good is just the icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
I start to knife making and weapons at the same time as you just 2 years younger, so watch this is a create feeling, watching the old cringy times 😅
I saw some sort art where the handle had an octagon shape to it, and I thought, "wow that looks like a really sturdy grip" so I put it on my 3D model swords, cool to see you did that on your knife!
Also, it's funny, I wanted to do smithing a long time ago and i did the same thing you did. Cut a bar and try to make a tanto-ish style knife lol, i never finished or even "finished" mine BUT that's ok cause forging was not for me.
Also, also it's funny you're revisiting your original works because I'm about to do the same thing but for video games I recorded!
Keep it up as always, fun to see what you come up with next!
Ok but can we PLEASE talk about how good that shot at 13:36 was?
Also, I know it'd probably *not* happen, but I'd love to see you make a sheath for this tanto to match the handle.
Props to the realest knifemaker blacksmith man
Would love to see an updated thrasher bracelet 🙂
Ohhh, treadplate thasher bracelets with actual leatherworking? Classic ZNA.
"Last knife" gotta love your thumbnails 😭
The way you use the clamp was very smart😮
Hey Eli, I doubt you will read this comment but here is my take on why your belt sander went kabloowie. When I was younger I went to help my father with a carpentry job so we rented a workshop with a bunch of expensive tools. I noticed that I got electrocuted by the machine I was assigned to by the old man every single time I touched the metal surface. It turns out it was thanks to the synthetic clothing I was wearing. While I was working, my leg sleeves were constantly rubbing into each other so that created static that discharged on the metal surfaces of the machine.
TL;DR synthetic clothing is nono in workshop
If you're getting shocked like that from your sander you just gotta ground yourself or the machine. It's happened to me since I bought mine. I move my sander around alot so a piece of wire dangling to the floor from inside my boot works fine. I also found these alligator clips with a bit of chain on them that you can clip on and those work great. Just make sure it's making skin contact.
your videos only get better and better and ive liked them since you started. love your work.
My favourite chemo patient posting once again? Blessed.
a smol scabbard would fit that tanto
Looks absolutely stunning imo
Dude, you are so good!!
I can watch you craft forever, amazing work!
I can't believe Burny Sander Jr. has met this unfortunate fate.
The shot at 13:36 is sick
