Only 2:12 into the video and Grandma Lolly is already getting bleeped. 😄 I love it! I'm pretty sure Ben uses his little pocket screwdriver more often than any other tool. It's also awesome watching Paul just dive into a transmission rebuild like it's no big deal.
Hunter will need a line lock fitted or he will melt his axle shafts from the brake heat. I had one, couldn't help but do a burnout everywhere, till the law changed and the slightest squeak and the cops could impound your car.
It was so cool getting to meet all of you that day! You just about has her back together. Watching your videos helped inspire me to get back to working on cars again! Thank you for taking the time to take a photo and say hi! Tuneman from Caldwell, ID.
The FJ is seriously the best build ive seen. Watching Paul finally build his "unicorn" dream rig and seeing how awesome it performs is epic. You can see it in his face how happy he is driving that thing and his pride. Still have yet to see it fail. Love that truck 👍
Paul has a great attitude when something is ruined , but to get after it. Love that. And when he makes a mistake he eventually owns up it also helps the viewers.
Fab Rats , You know you putting out good content when your viewers are happy they are one of the first people to watch your content... By being a lower number on the like counter than last time...That has to be one of the best burnouts I have seen....
I gotta say Hunter is lucky to have this experience with Paul & Ben learning tradecraft & having fun, that's a proper burnout your FJ-45 is a one of a kind beast, awesome video thank's for sharing God bless ❤😉👍
"Do I need to call the fire department?" "He is the fire department!" Score one for Hunter, someone forgot that Paul is a volunteer firefighter! (One of Matt's videos from a year or two ago as I recall.)
They grind off the weld around the "belly" of it so they can re-build it anyways. It needs to be super clean inside and there are "vanes" inside and some have clutches inside, I believe Paul's does. I never got to see inside of them, we just pulled em and had them pick 'em up for cores to be re-built!
@Fab Rats An idea you may or may not like, we used a swamp cooler water pump sitting in a large coffee can or bowl to pump some solvent thru the lines and tranny cooler to flush it out, and then some clean trans fluid flushed thru also with the same pump system to finish off the flush job! I of course don't have to tell you, but I'll say it for the less informed, the fluid you flushed the solvent out with Must Not be re-used! It gave it's life for a good cause...
always flush the cooling system or you will put metal right back in your new transmissions. Do uhaul mod. they put spin on filters in the cooling lines to catch most for the debris.
The smell of burning rubber brings back many memories....occasionally involving cars and trucks......and much respect for the tolerance and understanding of many parents of my associates Folks.....(like....thanks...I needed new tires anyway...) LOL !!
What I really enjoy about this show sometimes.... Is how you guys think a massive project, a major breakdown, and you're so casual about it. I'm not a mechanic and I don't claim to be one. But to me this is fascinating. And I'm so glad Ben's a regular on here
It's good to see the FJ45 fixed and back on the road, that is until it's next 'unscheduled maintenance procedure' is due? 🤓 But, it is in good hands with you folks, you always have a quick and worthy solution to every problem!
Paul, I think it's really awesome the mechanical knowledge that you and Ben have!! It amazes me!! You two are teaching a lifetime of knowledge to a new generation and that is truly something to be proud of!!! Keep up the good work!!!
You are probably tired of my recommendations by now, but I got another! It looks like your adapter on the transfer case that you put the studs in is aluminum. Since you are likely to have that thing together and apart a million times in your lifetime I recommend putting solid metal thread inserts in the adapter plate. Keenserts is what I use. They won't lossen up over time and you won't be fighting with studs loosening up. As always, I love the content and your teams delivery! This is pretty much my favorite youtube channel!
Paul you guys are welcome, Jerky is also a staple at my house. Hope you can find a use for the laser level. Keep up the great work and awesome video's. The burnout was over the top.
+1 on a crush sleeve eliminator kit! Especially with the torque you guys are putting into that pinion with the tall tires, and the shock loads it’s getting on rocks. You’ll very likely never hurt the eliminator, so it’s a for life part!
Well Paul you know the old saying if it breaks it was meant to be fixed. You and Ben were impressive doing the R&R on that transmission which only means you were lucky or you have done this gig to many times. Non the less the Yota needed a little love. Thanks for video and stay warm.
I don't have much experience with checking out "burn outs" but I've got to admit that was very impressive little graphic burn on your driveway there… Looks like so much fun‼
Record time in getting the job done! The test drive Smokey burnouts was Fab Rats style Sweet! Thanks Grandma for keeping the guys fed! Thanks for the Subs who keeps them in snacks between Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner! Great editing Michelle as always! Til next time take care and stay safe...
Driving in Utah getting 😳 gas the manager looks at my front left tire. He said it needed a bolt 🔩 it broke But got replaced. COVID stopped me from returning home. It's dark in Beaver Utah but not happening this year.
20:59 I did something similar once and ended up in emerg with methanol in my eyes. I had safety glasses on with side shields, a requirement at my job, but the force blew off the glasses. Maybe a cloth over the funnel opening. lol Thanks for the video. 👍
You should run a solid spacer in the rear end especially in a off rosd rig or something your abusing a good amount. You having a lathe will make it easy to make one. I always have crushed the sleeve then pulled it out and messured it then built a sleeve and reinstalled everything
I really enjoy watching these youtubes they are so interesting I always liked working on my cars and trucks when I was growing up this brings back so many good memories I wish a was younger I would love to do this at 73 yrs old I can't crawl around like that anymore but I still ride my motorcycle and work that's about thank for these videos God Bless all of you
I was lucky enough to get in the top 10 on the like button this morning and it was well deserved. Another awesome video and great work from the guys. Also one of the best burnouts I've ever seen, great work guys, keep it up.......... 👍👍👍
@Alex Shannon, Hey Fab Rats you know you have good content when viewers are happy that we can become one of the earliest people to like your videos....
Great video y'all, that is the one thing I have always been nervous about doing is the transmission. But I got a book on them so I think I might tackle that in the future.
You sure made rebuilding the transmission look easy. I always thought that special pullers and snap ring pliers were needed to rebuild one, guess I was wrong. The 400 turbo and the powerglide transmissions were two of GM's toughest transmissions that I know of. I have 5 or 6 powerglides but only one 400 left laying around. One of the powerglides doesn't use a torque converter it has an on/off valve tapped into the front pump. I used it on the circle track. Less rotating weight for faster throttle response. The FJ is a one-of-a-kind, well built crawling machine. Can you imagine how much it would cost to have one like it built if you couldn't do it yourself?
The Ice problem @ 17:10 is avoidable with a small roof over the entrance/egress door.... Love it the way you tear into auto transmissions and rebuild them, what a talent...!
I was thinking if I was doing it I'd be taking pictures of every step, putting things in baggies, taking notes. He just yanks everything out and sticks it all back together. Piece of cake!
Hey Paul you should try one of those crush sleeves eliminators!! I ended up putting one in my 14 bolt FF!! So much easier in setting the bearings up I thought!!!! Awesome video buddy and remember keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
It's always good to get some practice in changing the TC case. I bet you guys took 20 minutes off the next installation process. Do it nice or twice...lol I just love you all content, it's just honest. Most would have left the mishaps on the editor's trash bin. Great job guys.
It was nice while it lasted. Great job guys. Very nice video. Can't wait to see more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Fab On. Weld On. Keep making. God bless.
Looks like you need an eaves on the building to move the water away from the door. Your repairs shows just how much beating it has on those trails. Great job on repairs - burn out fabulous . I wonder how the other guys make out on repairs?
You sir have crazy skills! You fabricate whatever you need, you can rebuild anything. Your a pretty amazing guy. And just a normal guy without attitude. Love the videos!
I drove by there yesterday (Thursday 12-1) and I saw those tire marks and my first thought was Fabrats doing some fun stuff again. I almost stopped but being in a semi and short on time I had to keep going . Kind of wished I would have now. Would of got one those xmas ornaments.
The burnout to an untrained eye would seem like shenanigans, but to the trained eye it was a test for the functionality of the transmission, there it is 😂😂
Seeing this Beast 🦄transfrom from its tarp covered fence gaurding spot a yr or so ago is amazing. 'If he's happy I'm happy' being the smile on Paul's face when the deal was sealed and seeing it now. A true labour of love, talent, determination and will to complete the task is where respect is gained. This is one of the projects I have thoroughly enjoyed watching transpire to where it is now...keep up the great work team...👍
Takes me back a few years. Just 1956 Edsel sawdust snow tires, when burnouts went 12 to maybe 16 feet around a corner (One wheel ). I believe it's almost the same smoke level (Blue Smoke mostly). Great work!
We used 3/4" drive torque multiplier ratchet for crush sleeves and a 36" pipe wrench to hold the yoke, still needed someone on a brake stool to use their foot to tighten it all the way.
This video is one of the best. Mistakes were made because you showed them and that's a good thing. Educational by showing how to do it right. The 3 of you are making a great team. The editing process is top notch that ties it all together to make a great show.
The easiest transmission I've ever pulled was the munce 4 speed in my 58 Chevy Apache. 2 bolts on the Hurst shifter, 2 U bolts on the drive shaft and 4 bolts at the bell housing and slide at out. It was high enough I didn't even need to jack it up.
I gotta say that when y’all found the FJ45, I was skeptical about it becoming a rockcrawler. But, I understand your operation and mindset better now; it turned out really cool!! It’s nearly Morrvair cool!! Robby could put it on par, but it’s respectable rough like it is. Rugged and capable and still instantly recognizable as the rare truck that it is!! Only about 800 made it to the US!
Just got finished watching an old video where you're had Cantankerous comments. I just want to say that those haters are just Hating. love ya'lls show It's nice to see family working together the way it should be keep doing what you're doing God-bless you
The FJ is back and better than ever! The T-converter is happy and so is the tranny and rear end. Now it's ready for recovery's and to assist the Rat rod tow truck! Soon we hope?
Paul forgot to sing the smurf song when he used the small blue ladder. Come on Fab Rats. Lol. Paul needs to sing the whole song now. 🎵 We enjoy you guys.
Today I finally got a little bit of reassurance. I'm glad that you guys actually do cuss I was starting to get concerned that people in Utah didn't cuss or something since I've never heard anyone on Matt's channel cuss either.
The only thing I can say, is you have some of the most understanding neighbors! The people who live around me would have had the SWAT team swarming my house if I'd tried that...

Paul, do cleetus and cars burnout competition. I’m sure you’ll shine!!!
Paul used the smurf ladder and didn’t sing the song!
Tranny problems??? Time to call in "Monster in a Box". Rebuilt a 400 into a near indestructible tranny I can trust.
That was a 2 thumbs up Smokey Burnout
👍🏻👍🏻🍻🇺🇸🤙🏻
I’m a retired aircraft mechanic and enjoy watching good skills on display. You guys make it look easy and that’s the sign of real talent.
Good editing goes a long way making it look smother them it really is going
Ben's legitimate look of surprise when Paul read the instructions and said "He's changing his ways" 🤣🤣🤣
I cracked up when I saw that look. That was awesome!
I never want to upset Paul or anybody on your phone you guys are the greatest and you guys are the greatest show ever God bless y'all
Old dogs can learn new tricks! Lol
lol
I'm just amazed at how Paul knows how to do all these specialized jobs. Awesome
I appreciate how Paul & Ben work so well together, finish each others sentences and how Landon just shows up and jumps in. Thanks again for sharing.
Hunter has become one hell of an addition to the team.👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽
"He is the fire department" was a great line. 😂 16:50
And when he learns not to jerk the camera back and forth, he'll become a cameraman...
Actually thought that too. Get amongst it Hunter
@@lopezlopez7132 I think I'd rather raw footage of the boy's than "perfect"mate
@@o.gbadger611Well, if you like getting dizzy from his camera movements... You can also watch UA-cam sitting on a swing for full "raw" experience.
Only 2:12 into the video and Grandma Lolly is already getting bleeped. 😄 I love it!
I'm pretty sure Ben uses his little pocket screwdriver more often than any other tool. It's also awesome watching Paul just dive into a transmission rebuild like it's no big deal.
Bens laugh at the end was priceless. Hunter I think Paul set a standard that you must try and beat! Good Luck.
Going to need a longer driveway!
Hunter will need a line lock fitted or he will melt his axle shafts from the brake heat. I had one, couldn't help but do a burnout everywhere, till the law changed and the slightest squeak and the cops could impound your car.

Awesome seeing yall come together. Land in the shop learning from his dad and uncle is rad. The knowledge Land and Hunter are learning is priceless
We went from an all time low to an all time high in 30 mins.Great work fellows we all loved it.

I really enjoy watching your vids. Your not afraid to show your mistakes. GREAT JOB!
lol funny
Paul dismantles, repairs, and reassembles turbo hydromatic 400 transmissions without even opening a book. Personally I find that amazing.
I gotta say Hunter is lucky to have this experience with Paul & Ben learning tradecraft & having fun, that's a proper burnout your FJ-45 is a one of a kind beast, awesome video thank's for sharing God bless ❤😉👍

I'd love to see the inside of the old Torque Convertor. Maybe the Torque convertor shop can cut it open for a peek?
Seen a few of those cut open & I'd say it would won't be pretty. Good thing you can't smell it neither, yuck!
They grind off the weld around the "belly" of it so they can re-build it anyways. It needs to be super clean inside and there are "vanes" inside and some have clutches inside, I believe Paul's does. Magnefine auxiliary transmission filters on the cooler return line FTW!
