I owned the MPC 4000 plus fully loaded. The learning curve was for sure, but tight once you get it down. Today I own the MPC X and that's what the 4000 was looking to be about.
I'll tell you what happened to this thing.. The Price! This was when Akai was naming their model numbers after how much they expected you to pay for the unit. Want a 2000? well it's $2,000. Want a 3000 well it's $3,000 want a 4000? well it's $4,000 HAHAHA!
🤣 4K Owner since released +all upgraded I/O outboard card, Adat card, IBJ effects card and digital I/O cards with a grand estimation of about a good $2200 in today’s market.
Love the 4000 you have to option to adjust the bit rate down to 8 and even choose the quality of bit rate also. I love my 1000 because of workflow and the options that jjos has to offer but this machine produces an all around better sound than some of the newer mpcs
@@OneTwoThree_22 you can change sample rate from 4Khz to 96khz and bit depth options of 8,12,16,24 and also choose if you want the sample to be high quality or low.
I bought the 4000 brand new in 2002 and I almost never used it at that time because the OS was buggy and it crashed all the time. It wasn’t until they made the final revision to the OS (3-4 years later) that it became stable and useful for me. Now I rate it as probably my favorite MPC ever because of the feature set and sound. My only complaint is I don’t like the feel of the pads as much at the 3000 or 60.
@IceColdBeverage It's going to be a great season with the football. Early doors but my team took the win last weekend. Congratulations on the Champion's League from one MPC user to another
This was only one of three Mpc’s I never owed. It was intimidating and looked mad complicated. I think that’s why this model was received differently than any other Mpc.
My producer partner said the same. When the little cartoon graphic came on the screen to load he walked away. Ahhahahhahajaha I saw it as a challenge and never looked back
Hello budy, how are you? how do I put for example an efx (delay) in qlink? I can do it through the mixer page but I wanted it to work on the main page, any tips? thanks
I am going to get me a used Akai MPC. Would you recommend a 4000 ahead of a 5000? Like to hear your thoughts. I still like the small 1000 though pretty much ...
Good question.. You can hear a lil something from the hard drive but I dont think its loud...Some folks swap the drive out and get a real quiet drive..But to me its not loud or noisy..But you do hear when its on.
I had a 4000 and sold it .Sonically I didn’t like how it sounded. I started just using it to trigger my sound modules and realized it wasn’t with it to keep it.

I've had mine since 2005. It needs a new screen now. Hopefully, a new replacement will be of better quality and last longer. HDD died too. I've been saving on USB flash drive since then but might eventually stick an SSD in there at some point. I used mine with an old Win XP desktop running Aksys. That combo works very well. Anyone knows whether Aksys works on newer Windows 10 PCs? Side note, Akai needs to put the Z8/MPC4000's sampler engine (complete with aux envelope, modulation matrix, etc...) in the new MPC X/Live/One. That would be really nice!!!!!
Hadn't been able to get Aksys to work on windows 10..I use to use this windows partition program that partitioned half my drive to an old win XP mod..But got tired of booting into it every time I wanted to use Aksys.
when you show me that OS, and this MPC, you make me think of a japanese composer named Sota Fujimori. I kind of have no doubt he may have used this MPC to write music. He has a song called State of the art
Downsides is the complexity, and therefore it never received the respect it deserves. Too complicated for the majority and it reflects to the used price today. Also the rotary encoder was garbage. Most had to replace it for a quality encoder that would solve the input problems for once and for all. Also the display wasn’t perfect and most would have issues with complete LCD lines missing randomly which can be taken care of with a replacement for a modern display. The old displays used a glueing technique of some sort and after time the glue would dissapear or affect it in some way. Apart from that its very reliable and a beast of a machine. I am glad i have one.
It's still the best! The reason it's still the best is becuase it can downgrade to 8 bit and scale up to 96. With Ask sys the sky is the limit and chopping editing samples or WHATEVER is just ENDLESS! The X sounds thin and just can't burst out hard.. The 4k can get ridiculous clean or dirty AF!
Just put mine in the shop for the SIXTH time...it is truly a machine and should be treated as such. I bought my 4000 when there was only TWO in the country. I own ONE the the two. I got so much to say about this machine...Still UNEXPLORED...? Mine have a mind of its own... The OS does some craziness... But never breaks but if it doesn't like you in the room it tells me. It do shit the others don't I hope y'all are grounding y'all 4000. I had to use a crystal installed inside my unit. Trust me...it can absorb energy in, out or thru. Had to rap with aluminum once and use copper wires. When I fire it up...and I mean FIRE it up...cause I Got my fingers crossed. I will get videos.
The deal breaker problem with the 4000 is that the 8 audio outs expansions are almost impossible to find, with modern day guitar pedals basically being full on desktop effects units you do need those extra audio outs, a strymon el capistan as your delay via send on a mixer to whichever audio outs you choose is the DAWless way in 2022. This is why people don't rock the 4000, if it had 8 outs as standard it'd be the go to. Instead people use weird options like the octotrak, the 2000xl is probably the best as it's built like a tank and anything that breaks can be fixed on it unlike the new mpcs and all new samplers that have to go in the bin when they fail.
