    Great learning! thanks!
On step9. "Add a dark gradient to the sky while protecting the trees." I got a hang for quite a while. I overlooked the "apply the mask".
In general, I don't have a clear understanding for the concepts of "selection" "mask" "out-put".

    Hi Dave,
I have owned TK panels back to version 4 but would have to admit they I never really grasped their power and utility. The result being that I never really pursued it's use in my work. Earlier this year I was involved in an accident whose result to me was a broken right femur. In my recovery I saw and watched a TK8 Friday episode - I am totally hooked. Your videos made the use of the panel understandable and applicable to my work. Your videos have lightened my recovery considerably.
I am an old analog photographer who chose to work in B&W nearly exclusively. Watching your videos has helped me to bring life to images that were ill exposed and/or inappropriately developed. I can now make digital negatives of these images to print in my darkroom. I now shoot digital images as well photograph with film. TK8 has allowed me to be far more creative with color than I would have imagined.
I love the calculator to create masks, and I find the PDFs very useful when I need to refresh my memory has to how to perform certain functions with the TK8 panels. I know most of your work, and probably the work of most of your followers is color, but I would appreciate it if you could occasionally toss a bone to us B&W folks by working with a monochrome image.
Thanks for all your hard work in producing the TK8 Friday videos.

Frank, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am so pleased that the TK Friday videos have been beneficial to you during your time of recovery. I am also glad you are enjoying the power of editing with TK panels. Like you, I love black and white photography and I know that Tony Kuyper does as well. I started my journey in photography when I was around 13 years of age and working with my dad developing black and white images in a darkroom. My father passed away many years ago but I still have those fond memories that I live with. Now in the digital era, working with Photoshop and TK panels, I couldn't be happier.
I will have to get to work on a Black and White TK Friday.

Dave, I could not watch this video when it was first posted 2 weeks ago and thought I might just skip it. However today I did watch it and am I ever glad I did. A number of times I have had an image with a blue sky with faint white traces of clouds. I could not find a way of bringing out those whites without blowing them out. Then voila, step 2 you demonstrated the perfect answer to my dilemma. Step 2 is now prominently circled in my notebook of Dave Kelly notes!!!

Hello Dave, I first started doing photography in 1966 just before I went to Vietnam. I really look forward to TK Friday. I have been using the TK panel for almost a year now and it has made a significant difference in my work. I love being able to refer to the PDF notes. My thanks to you and TK for your efforts.

Hi Dave, just want to tell you how much I appreciate your channel and look forward to TKFridays. You are a good educator who obviously cares deeply about the quality of content you produce, well researched and thoughtfully presented. In particular I am impressed with the companion PDF guides. My favorite TK tools are definitely the color grading tool and mask calculator, huge boost in productivity (fact is the entire panel puts productivity in hyper drive). Please keep doing what you’re doing, I learn something exiting with every edition. Cheers Gord

Yet another great TX Friday tutorial and again more top tips. What I like is that you seem to be developing and discovering new techniques as time progresses. Just one thought. I have noticed that you are using the Curves/ Hide Mask/Multiply or Screen increasingly in the workflow to great effect. It would be great if the panel had a one button shortcut to save going through the three steps every time it is required. I presume an action could be created but not sure how.

Hey Dave, Jose from Puerto Rico. I love what you do every Friday. The technique you used for the sky is outstanding, totally worth the price of admission 🙂. I love the calculator tool and the way it just makes these complex edits so much easier and fun. The way you break down the image and explain the process of doing so, step by step, is invaluable. I think down the line, you should make a book titled "Dave Kelly's TK8 edits greatest hits". I'd buy it in a blink!

Question though; I keep experinecing this issue not only with this lesson, but others as well and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong when is comes to the gradient tool. I follow along exactly as you say, but when I release my left mouse button to finish the gradient, the gradiant line and it points stay in place with no visible darkeing either. Your thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Longtime listener, first time caller. 😃Curious as to why after remarking that it was a good histogram and exposure you used a linear profile and then basically did what an Adobe profile would do - that is to add contrast with black and white sliders. Is there a benefit to doing this without blown highlights or blocked shadows? Keep up the good work!

    • @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly
      @thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly  Рік тому +1

Thanks Kristen and a good question. This was a bit of an experiment. I felt the histogram was really good, so I wanted to see what I could do with no Lightroom adjustments and just my Balance and Contrast Layer in Photoshop.I always like to start with a linear profile and not add to much contrast because I like to take control of the contrast in Photoshop, rather than rely upon the Adobe profile.

Hi Dave. I think I have discovered a typo in your PDF notes on the Yosemite N.P. edit at step 4, darkening mountain shadows. The painting instruction should read ...paint with a white brush (not black). This typo is repeated at step 6. The adjacent icons are correct but the words are wrong. Just thought you would like to know, you see I read these precious notes!!
