Just another show of great versatility from The Fixx. Years ago - in London - I auditioned with them before Dan K joined them on Bass, they are all terrific guys and dedicated to their craft - sure wish I could see them live more often.
Sounds so good. Thanks for posting. I'm a huge Cy Curnin and Fixx fan. Have been since they came on the scene. Even in my late 40's, I'm still listening to their tunes regularly. But I prefer the songs that weren't as over-played on the radio. One of my all-time favorites is "Reach The Beach".
I learned so much about patience and patterns and being highly methodological when it came to playing my drums, I mean, in the 80's when I was learning to play. The contribution of Adam Woods on the kit is quite immense. So subtle, yet vital to the overall flow and feel of the song.
This is a re-release. They laid this on the tenth track of 'Reach the Beach' which contained some of their most notable work, yet unrecognized masterpieces: Running, Opinions, Changing, and Liner to name a few. A MOST excellent band that was NOT recognized for their outstanding contributions.
I'll call you crazy, cuz you're spot on! But, Samantha, have you figured out what happens between brain and hands here? All of these guys are such mysteries...
The Fixx, with their 80's lineup intact, finally released their new CD "Beautiful Friction" on July 17, 2012 and it's getting fantastic reviews! It's available on Amazon, iTunes and elsewhere. Check out the new tunes and check out the band live on tour with dates at TheFixx.com. Thumbs up to keep post on top!
Nice acoustic, aerial touch from the original recording, which had a much more new wave type of sound, typical from the 80s music era. Quite nice, actually !
I almost didn't listen to the version because I love the album version so much. This groovy version is so smooth! I guess the one person who didn't like it could get into the groove. Underrated group. SMH!
I miss the cutting and jagged (but so emotional and comfortable in the mix) synth and guitar tones. To me this is just like the Police's remake of Don't Stand So Close to Me. They recorded a great tune, one that you would dig just a little more had you not heard the wonder that is the original.
Absolutely!! After I heard them, I always tried to play something different on drums!! Not to pat myself on the back, but I really think it was one the major things that got us as many fans as we had!! Partly I HAVE to think that way, because, obviously it wasn't the other musos. Except for the singer (it was his band), none of them ever stayed for more than a few years. I was with the band for 25 years. Even when the band regrouped & had a different drummer, they flat out sucked! Others agree!
i'm sorry...you have some bands who are in the rock and roll hall of fame...and they are flat out bad...THE FIXX DESERVE AND BELONG TO BE IN CLEVELAND!...it will be an outrage if they aren't inducted!!...THEY KICK ASS...

Holy crap this is mesmerizing. I feel like I’ve died and gone to heaven. In fact, when I do die, I’m taking this incredible song with me.
Could listen to this song. No the entirety of reach the beach over and over forever. A masterpiece

I love The Fixx and love so many of their songs, seen them more than 20 times, but why this song hunts me??
The Fixx has always been one of my favorites.. Woman on a train is such a cool tune as well as Outside.

Utter brilliance. This song still brings me to tears.
Such a wonderful capture of a wonder song

I’ve never understood how “Running” didn’t become famous on some or any level.
LOVE the snare drum sound.
call me crazy this video has the best features of cy's hand I'm just in Love with

what a refreshing version... very sober.
I like the original too

Gotcha... happenstance, isn't though, to uncover new jewels...?
I like it..
@Tjs964 Did you ever hear the instrumental version of "Reach the Beach" from the 12" single?
I miss the cutting and jagged (but so emotional and comfortable in the mix) synth and guitar tones. To me this is just like the Police's remake of Don't Stand So Close to Me. They recorded a great tune, one that you would dig just a little more had you not heard the wonder that is the original.
Hipnotic
can u please add a few more details on the source?
Great tune. I kinda miss the guitar riff though... was a really great hook.
unlikely. it is from "1011 woodland" album
They never really made it here in the UK despite their obvious talent. Had to import this album from Germany!

the magical guitar effects have vanished. :-(
Really nicely done!! But I still love the original better. It just has more soul, more guts. It just FEELS a LOT better.
Extremely good..but forced to decide I'd go with the original..which happens to be my favorite 80's song of all time.
This iteration of this song has a nice dreamy quality, but no edge. It is clearly missing something.

I most definitely prefer the original...
There's no that Fixx sound I am familiar with. So this is a no for me.
+Kai Tendo huh?
