NARROWBOAT Living - A RADIAL Lock? Weed hatches, locks and CRUISING! River Nene! Ep52

- This week’s video sees us cruising our NARROWBOAT floating home on the River Nene from Wellingborough through to Peterborough. We encounter a radial gate lock and have a few visits to the weed hatch! There’s a bit of boogieing at the locks (used different music on the video to what we were dancing to due to copyright) we cruise down to the PYC Peterborough Yacht Club and see our first GRP boat Caela.
We didn’t film the whole journey, as we’ll be filming more in-depth on the way back up the river back to the canals.
Hope you enjoy this video! xx 😃

How lovely to be back in home waters again and see your lovely old cruiser.
Hi Tessa, yes it was lovely to see our old boat Caela, lovely memories. Thanks! xx
Lovely video, thanks for sharing. Stay happy, healthy, and safe out there.
Thanks Tuvia, lovely that you’re with us xx
Another beautiful cruise along the Nene! It's such a picturesque, almost idyllic river, and I'm so glad you chose to take us along on your journey! (That weed Martin plucked out of the weed hatch almost looked like skeins of yarn lying there on the concrete!)
Hi Chris, yes, that weed is just like yarn, it wraps around the propeller into a ball! The river is so beautiful, we loved it, thanks! xx 😘
💃🏻🕺🏻Lock Boogie Time! 🕺🏻💃🏻 😂😂😂
Haha, thanks for watching matey! xx 😘
Really diggin that lock dance. 💃🕺
Haha we did have a giggle! Thanks Terry! xx
Thank you for sharing your adventure! Thank you for taking me along. Cheers!
You’re welcome, thank you for watching! xx
@@JulieandMartinonRIB You're very welcome!
Love the dancing - great style and finesse!💃Such a lovely backdrop for it though.
Hi Mishka, lol I don’t know about that, style & finesse 😂 but yes, a lovely setting, thank you! xx
Another nice one guys, as an engineer i loved that radial lock, Now Julie, that CRT machine you saw was a dredging barge, it clears the silt so that your boat will not beach, it will stir up the water and leave some floating weed, give it 24hours it will settle down, please please please, don't put the CRT guys down, many are volunteers who also love the canals, have a pop at management by all means, but the guys and the girls on the ground are doing their best, give them a bit of love ❤❤❤
Hi Nigel, thank you so much for your comment! OMG I do hope I didn’t diss the CRT, I never would 🥰 This was on the river Nene, it was the EA (Environment Agency) waters and at the time they were ‘apparently’ not permitting the weed boats to clear the weeds until they had run some sort of tests. This in turn made it quite difficult to navigate. I would never diss the CRT, I know they do a magnificent job, and being that most are volunteers is amazing. We loved our time on the river on summer and thank you so much for telling us what that machine was, it was huge! Thanks Nigel xx
Hi Guys, especially Julie, sorry iff I came about all wrong, I'm not on the canals ,but loving you and others on my journey to a boat, I (as a muppet) thought was CRT, canal and rivers trust,

Thanks for a great video and explaining the workings of the different locks, very useful to us land lubbers who dont know these things.Nice to see all the different ducks too.Take care.
Thank you for your lovely comment, it’s great seeing all the different types of locks. Those ducks were so sweet too. Thank you! xx
Great vlog love the music 😮 ❤
Haha, funky isn’t it! 😂 Thanks Ruth & David! xx
Great moves at the locks, disco girls 😂 shame Martin didn't show his moves 😅 looks like the hard work continues, so much weed but lots of smiles and good times 😊 stay safe ❤
Lol, we heard Martin’s vocal chords though didn’t we 😱😝 Good times! 😃 xx ❤️
As always beautiful informative cruise. So interesting all the various types of locks. U made my evening. Thank u. Best wishes ❤
Aww that’s such a lovely thing to say, thanks Trevor! xx
I think that "digger" is some sort of dredger. It reminds me of dredgers I saw as a child (a long time ago!).
Hi Ruth, yes, looks like it could be. Thank you! xx
What a fab cruise. All the rubbish in the weed hatch 😮. Looking forward to a catch up when we can all get together ❤️
Aww that would be lovely, hope we can get together soon xx

Good vlog guys. Only discovered your channel last week when I saw you were on the Nene. I live in Northamptonshire so that sparked my interest, anyway guys I am now a subscriber and look forward to joining you both on your journey. 😉
Aww thank you Stewart, lovely to have you with us! xx
Perhaps that strange machine was some kind of dredger???
Yes could’ve been, it was certainly an odd looking thing lol. Thanks Julie xx
Xx
Thanks Edward! xx
It must be Thursday @ 6.00. How many new vlogs get released? loads 🤣🤣😎👍🏼
Haha yes, seems a few others have joined us and Heidi! 🤷♀️😂🤣 xx
We may think about changing to another slot lol 😂
Hello and thanks ! What is the significance of the silver plane mounted on the roof of your boat? Just curious....
The previous owners were in the RAF, hence the roundel insignia on the top of the back hatch. We bought this chrome Spitfire as a nod to the previous owners for looking after the boat so well. Thanks! xx
