Valentina Lisitsa is the Empress of the Universe and...and...she does not have ego.
I have met her twice in London.
She also plays street pianos if she espies one & has a few minutes to spare. 🐾🐾🌞😷

"How Many in the World Have Awakened
The setting sun illuminates the evening clouds
The evening light is always tinged with sorrow
Last rays have beauty for only a moment
The darkness seeps through edges of the clouds
The last flash dies of in the Central Plain
How many buildings will remain after the end times
      Where will people go
The wise ones will surpass the Kings and Lords
      Early 2013
      ***
      Why Do You Refuse
Before descending to the world, you made a pact with the Creator
When Dafa is spread widely, make sure you are found
I tell you the truth now, why do you refuse it
How many people have their minds filled with the lies of the persecution
Kind people, don’t go along with the propaganda
The path we take is guided by Gods
To save people is my promise to Gods
Before the great disaster comes, we must seize every minute, every second
To save people, I do not fear ridicule
To save people, I do not fear brutality
Only when all beings gain the Fa will my wish be fulfilled
Only when all beings gain salvation will my wish be fulfilled
      Summer 2013
      ***
      A Dream From Long Ago
I’ve been searching for that dream from long ago
It was like a fairy tale, yet incomparably sacred
At that time, I signed a contract in heaven
I kept descending, just to fulfill my mission
Reincarnating again and again, lost in the sea of suffering
Finally that distant dream becomes true
The Creator has come to spread Dafa, saving beings to high levels
For this I came down to the world to wait for the Fa
I have fulfilled the contract from a prehistoric time
What is taking place is not a fairy tale
Many people have the same dream as I
      Summer 2013
      ***
      I Help You Cleanse Yourself
Dafa disciples have told you the truth behind illusion
Those truly poisoned are the mass of people, including you
Believing the lies, you will disintegrate along with the red demon
Telling the truth to save people-this compassion comes from my heart
Reaping no reward, I often get up early on cold days
Having no time to eat, nor rest in steaming hot weather
To save people, I withstand terror and pressure
Since I promised Gods to wake you up in the time of danger
You came from heaven, and gaining Dafa is your purpose
That will help beings in your paradise escape calamity
This is the reason for your descending to be human
Do not let the red demon brainwash you with Party culture
Beings in your paradise are longing for you
      December 2, 2014"

Subverting expectations is at the base of humor. Every joke that works finishes with an unexpected punchline. Playing this piece in this sort of situation is so unexpected, that many people reacted finding it funny. This is a pianist that, in similar situations, has chosen to play Liszt's _La Campanella._ The laughs lasted for a very short time and silence quickly resumed. There was no booing and no persistent signs of disrespect. You're free to disagree, of course, but I mantain my understanding that there was just surprise, nothing more.
Actually, I thinnk she did it on purpose, with a humorous spirit.

She has managed to take what is considered a cliche- a beginner piece, over-played, simple- to something that makes you feel as if you've been transformed to heaven. You feel utter peace when you hear her play this. It's absolutely delicious. Sometimes it's the easier pieces that really shine when expert like her plays them.

    • @dominic6055
      @dominic6055 Рік тому

Well said, but also it's a good way for beginners to understand the difference between a real musician and a beginner that just wants to hit all the notes. I don't really agree with the slow tempo that Valentina plays, I prefer it to have more of a "march" feel, but anyway you can straight away say her rendition is super high quality and well thought out.

What I love about this is the subtleness with which she opens every phrase, the way she increases the intensity only to slow down again, and the way she is using silence in the very right amount. She also reminds me of Arrau in the way she is taking the time to acknowledge and bring out the sound of every single note. I have never heard a better interpretation of this piece. Superb.

To those that have said she doesn't play with much emotion on her harder pieces that she's played, this is proof she can play with an absolute metric ton of emotion. Those pieces just require much more focus on musicality, quickness, and make it hard to flood each note and passage with emotion, but she nonetheless does it.

There goes Für Elise once and for all.
The audience laughs because it typically is the first piece any aspiring piano player learns. So everyone who knows someone with a piano, has heard some timid attempt at playing it. It has become, in some ways, lesson 1. Now, the fact that Valentina Lisitsa comes in for a 4th (!!) encore and starts playing the much listened tune, well, that´s kind of unexpected and funny. Nobody laughed at Beethoven, ok?

I think it's incredibly sweet that she played this piece and that the audience got a gentle laugh - I don't think they were mocking her. I think it was just an entertaining surprise. I would probably laugh in surprise, too, as though there was some sort of delightful secret I was in on! And then she plays beautifully and there's not a single sound in the room because everybody appreciates Beethoven so well-played. Well done! :)

It's easy to forget that this is a beautiful, masterfully written piece of music. Yes, it was the first piece (or first real piece, anyway) that I learned, just like many other people, but the reason for this is mostly because I was drawn to its beauty. Like Canon in D, or Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, its popularity doesn't diminish its beauty.

Section A and it's repeats are easy to play and so many beginners only play that part. The 32nd notes to play at correct tempo would defeat so many intermediate players, there is certainly no reason for an audience to laugh. There are other technically tricky parts, but the really tricky things are less obvious, subtle and delicate dynamics and subtle changes in tempo that even students on high grades usually don't achieve very well. This version is about as good as it gets and it is certainly not hurried as she has been accused of on some other pieces.

dude she plays way more technically difficult songs, i’m assuming this was taken from a whole concert of her playing multiple songs. she probably played something as hard as la campanella before this, so the audience hearing fur elise; one of the more simple but recognizable song is funny to them. Therefore, they laughed.

Valentina Lisitsa is my absolute favorite pianist -- I am mesmerized by her hands and technique. On this piece (on of my favorites), I am so happy she plays it at this moderately slow, contemplative tempo. I've heard others play it at a much quicker tempo and it feels so rushed. Thank you for sharing your awe-inspiring gift, Valentina!
