He’s smooth, possesses practically unlimited abilities and even admits “I’m a royal too on my mother’s side.” He seemed set up for success, but how did he get here? Disney should rerelease that movie with a new title along the lines of _Tangled_ and _Frozen_. They could keep the original title as a subtitle.
I know it won't happen, but once they changed their marketing strategy from using the titles of fairy tales to these new type of titles, popularity among children shot through the roof. I'd really like to see this happen to get the movie a bit more of the attention it deserves.

Cwiffy. I live in New Orleans! It’s not as perfect as this movie makes it seem. It actually smells really bad and there are no jazz players. Only homeless people playing the saxophone. They sound good though! The food is also really good here! There are also a lot of drunk people on Bourbon street! But that is at night! It is still really beautiful! During the day there are so many people! During the day in Jackson Square, there are paintings and stuff. At night in Jackson Square, there are people with tarot cards! It is really beautiful though! Super haunted though! Lots of gruesome backstories! I love it here! One of the things that I like to do when I am waiting for my mom to get off of work, is to look at the people because when you are from New Orleans, you can tell who is from here and who are tourists! If you haven’t, you should really come visit! It’s amazing here!

maybe Dr. Facilier was from a poor family, having some knowledge about his family on his mothers side (or simply making it up). but as a boy, he was taken in by mama Odi as a student, practicing woodoo and other stuff. but after time, this was just not enough for him anymore and left to use his powers to gain more magical properties to gain riches and trick people. maybe mama Odi saw something in him when he was younger, but when he chose to use his powers for his own selfish desires, she had to let go of him and keep being a wonderful woodoo woman in the forest, along with her animal friends and magic.

I like to imagine that Facilier's ancestor was Marie Leveaux herself.
I've always liked the scene where he tells Lawrence, "Aren't you tired of the fat cats passing you by in their fancy cars, never giving you a second glance?" Look closely at the look on Facilier's face. *He isn't talking about Lawrence.* I imagine that he's sick of being treated as a third-class citizen--he, who has the blood of a voodoo queen in his veins. It ties in with that "what you want vs. what you need" theme of the movie--he thinks he wants power, but what he really NEEDS is respect. (Some have also theorized that he's Big Daddy LaBoeuf's half-brother by a slave or ex-slave--he'd naturally think "I'm as much my daddy's son as he is--why should HE have everything just because I was born on the wrong side of the blanket?")

The one major inaccuracy in the movie is the 'stick-a-pin-in-the-voodoo-doll' trope, which is unknown in the actual Haitian practice of Voodoo - those dolls are actually called 'hex dolls' and they come from European witchcraft. Actual Voodoo dolls serve a very different, and non-lethal function.

Dr. Facilier is such a great and underrated villain! He needs his own movie and/or book about him. He doesn't even appear in How It Should Have Ended. He appeared in Vera Strange's AU: "Fiends on the other side" book and will be in the Twisted Tale series "Almost There" by Liz Braswell, Jen Calonita and Elizabeth Lim. Other than The Descendants and the Princess and the Frog, we don't know a whole lot about him.
I bet he was once an innocent boy who wanted to live the good life. Maybe he practiced good Voodoo with Mama Odie. But he soon became envious of the wealthy and got into dark magic. What of his parents and Mama Odie's influence? I also think that his backstory wouldn't be too different from Alastor of Hazbin Hotel.
If no one else makes a backstory for him, then I will.

Dr F is a super fun character but a horrid representation of Vodou and I think the fact you refer to him as a Bokor really highlights that. Give a look to the Descendants movies and the series, it will only took around an hour to se the entire serie as the chapters are like 3 minutes long (see them all at once and it'll feel like 3 chapters of a regular serie)

A princess that is hard working whose dream is to open a restaurant her father could not, a prince that’s just wealthy and spoiled that learns the value of effort and having a goal, and an awesome villain with great songs. And the best of course is the firefly Ray, best parts of the movie are all him.

They actually did a cool job of incorporating aesthetics that are actually meaningful in vodou, like veves (the symbol drawings on the floors + walls), into his sequences. They had some of Ezili Freda in the background of his shop, tons swirling around him in the magic scenes, and he himself even resembles how Ghede is portrayed by some artists! I loved seeing the amount of research into this vid, a lot of it was really accurate (even if the pronunciation was iffy lol). Glad to see a theory on Facilier, he's my favorite villain by far!!

It's quite possible his mother wasn't an actual voodu Queen. He could have been the "price" for an unplanned pregnancy. It wasn't uncommon for unwed mothers to abandon/give up their babies because of the social stigma. It's more likely his grandmother raised him, thus were he learned his dark magik. His admission, "I've got royalty on my mother's side". He wasn't wrong for saying that. At that time, despite the strong patriarchy, women on the other hand, especially within Creole traditions, were family leaders. They made the final decisions regarding family, social, and political matters. It's quite possible the female members of his family raised him and taught him dark magik or passed off as someone else's son.
