How to Make Chickpea Biryani

  • This short cut chickpea biryani is not just easy to make but super tasty too.
    Ingredients for the chickpeas:
    3 tbsp oil
    3 onions, sliced
    1 tbsp ginger paste
    1 tsp chili powder (optional)
    1 tsp turmeric powder
    1 tsp pilau masala
    ½ cup natural yoghurt
    2 cups chickpeas, boiled
    Salt to taste
    For the rice:
    1 cup Daawat Biryani Rice
    Salt to taste
    1 tsp mixed whole spices (cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, cardamom and cloves)
    Method for the chick peas:
    Heat oil in a pot and add the onions. Cook until slightly browned and then add the ginger paste and stir. Add the spices and stir again before adding the yoghurt/mala, chick peas and salt. Cook for 3-5 minutes and set aside.
    For the rice:
    Add the biryani rice, salt and whole spices to boiling water and cook for 10 minutes or until 80-90% cooked.
    Layer the rice onto the chick peas and then cover and let it steam for 5 minutes. Garnish with dhania/coriander leaves, stir and serve.
