One of the most underrated metal bands of all time
The new album is great. I first heard them with So Sedated So Secure. But when I plopped the Undoing Ruin cd in my car stereo for the first time it blew my mind.
i've been listening to metal for more than 20 years and somehow this band escaped me, what an awesome song, i need to listen to more, a lot more of their stuff
Darkest Hour definitely was one of the few bands that stood out to me during the peak of the Metalcore hype in the mid/late 2000's.
Similarly to some other bands that didn't quite make it to the top like Unearth or God Forbid, I feel like their songs from back then still hold up better almost 20 years later than the material of some bands that were way bigger at the time like August Burns Red or As I Lay Dying who in my opinion were much more in line with the generic Metalcore formula that so many bands tried to copy.
this was a very positive album. The big 'single' release for them was Convalescence. Shoutout to my boys back in 05 seeing this tour with A Life Once Lost, The Acacia Strain, etc.. Damn im getting old.
Both of you are fucking rockstars. Keep being awesome!
Hello Richard and Judson,
Apologies in advance for my lengthy comment.
I absolutely love your show. Hoping to see more of you. I also find your back story very relatable.
I struggled with depression for the majority of my life. I tried everything but it never really went away. Until very recently when I was borderline suicidal, I found the band Shining. Although in first glance it might look like the band is encouraging depression and suicide which it practically is, it helped me explore myself and the roots of my problems. In this light I found a footstep to change my lifestyle, sleep, diet and lack of physical activity. I am much happier and accepting of my situation now.
I would love to see you listen and react to this song that was pivotal for me, Shining - Ytterligare Ett Steg Närmare Total Jävla Utfrysning.
One of my favorite albums of all time, I STILL listen to this album from front to back atleast once a month. I still remember buying this CD as a 16 year old and listening to it on repeat 5 times in a row the day I got it because I was blown away. Tranquil is probably my favorite track on the album, but there isn't a bad one. I've seen them many times, including traveling about 6 hours to see them during the 10 year anniversary of this album in 2015 when they played it in it's entirety and then did an entire second set of bangers from their other albums.
Fun fact, that opening noise effect isn't any sort of digital production, they actually use an Ebow on the strings to make that effect live, pretty cool!
Very cool! Did not know that about the sound at the beginning. Thanks for sharing!
A new band I've not heard before. I like this song, gonna have to listen to some more now. Cheers guys.
the album is Undoing Ruin and its great. I got to see these guys back in 2005 when this album was new and it was one of the most energetic shows Ive ever been to.
Tranquil is my fav track on this album. Such epic finale to the album. So much shred. Judson might appreciate the ebb and flow.
This song and Tranquil were/are both sooooo good.
You had to be there man - this whole period of music was amazing, but as time goes on i can understand why this sub genre stuff can become locked in a time bubble a bit. For me this is a perfect song
Oh man, I love Darkest Hour! I first heard them through Guitar Hero 5 and it instantly clicked. I never heard that kind of extreme metal before, but I loved it and it was my gateway drug into death metal and black metal. Especially Deliver Us is one of my favorite albums ever. All killers, no filler.
Deliver Us is their best album IMO
I found this channel months ago and Richard was wearing that same Undoing Ruin T so I subscribed and have been following along ever since. And we've finally come full circle with a reaction to a song from one of my top 3 favorite albums of all time as well. Aside from the recovery piece (respect!), I would explain my relationship and infatuation with this record exactly as he put it. Thank you for this!
Newfound love for this channel for knowing about/reacting to DH! Been a fan of theirs since I was 13 and have followed them ever since and they have been one of my all time favorite metal bands. Solid stuff!
Double bass action is crazy
This album means so much to me. 🖤
Yes, more Darkest Hour! Love it
Would love to see a reaction to Alexisonfire too.
Nostalgia hits big time 😢
Hell yea! Darkest Hour
Such a killer album
Soilwork Natural Born Chaos is also produced by Devin Townsend. I would suggest “The Bringer” or “As We Speak”. 🤘🏻
I had never really listened to these guys, but I saw them when the opened for Soilwork in Poughkeepsie NY in 2006/7? They opened with this song, and that intro live was just incredible. They maintained incredible energy for the whole set and to this day this song is probably in my top 10 of all songs.
Heavy Devy! It's a thing.
Loving every yo mama joke 😂
One of the best albums ever, love the lyrics especially, been listening to it since it came out
Been watching you guys do BtBAM for a while. I was excited to see this pop up in my feed. Definitely one of my favorite albums of all time. Nice to see it getting recognition.
I'm going to have to give this album a listen, particularly to hear what fretboard gymnastics they have. Did feel like this song was missing a rip-roaring solo, but then i think that about pretty much every song. Including my boy's nursery rhymes.
Hey fellas, do old mate a treat and look up the piano cover of this song. I reckon he'll appreciate it. It's simple but sweet.
this was a pleasant surprise :)
I'd love to see more music genres in the future
Also not all hope is gone that, before I forget to ask, you guys will do unsainted by slipknot
Synestia - a Poetic Edda to torture Judson further with dbass. Don't even care if it becomes a video but you should check that track out.
Man Judson would love last dance massacre lol. Double bass the whole time buuut at least the snare is forward in the mix and the waltz vibe is sweet
Since Judson is not a fan of double bass can we get some Power Trip in the channel?
Demons !!!!
Give this Judson some MGLA - Exercises in Futility V - Darkside - Brutal Assault 2019 (Drum Cam) - so he can appreciate the double blasting and the cymbal work more. ;)
tbf he does go by hevy devy
I'm high and confused this with the Megadeth song, so this was a first listen for both of us.
you should also show him terra solaris next, maybe it is too long but my god is it beautiful
This! Veritas, Aequitas is another beautiful OG instrumental track from them, though also very long lol.
Great pick , love this song especially lyrically.
Was hoping you’d get to this but what is A thousand words to say but one ?
Sorry ?
Sounds like he’s reminiscing over a botched relationship that he played his part in its undoing. He’s trying to remind her of the good times they had and how they can overcome but without feeling the guilt he should for its end. He wants to be together again but is too blinded by his own actions to realize it’s his fault and say sorry ?
please do more avenged sevenfold reactions
now you're just trolling don henley, lol
😂😂 He actually slowed it down because we were hoping it would bypass the copyright claim. Nope! Still got hit with it.
@@Greatmeasures I wonder if "take it easy" would flag, since jackson browne wrote that one.
not that I'm suggesting y'all should push the boundaries or... "take it to the limit one more time" ;-)
@@that44rdv4rk 😂 I lol’d. That’s probably not a bad idea. I’ll see if I can convince Judson to do it.
So it’s like, the issue Judson has with harsh vocals is similar to his critique of the sweeping technical guitar stuff in other songs. Both sounds are too uniform and lack the type of inflections that convey emotion the way he is used to, whether it be bending of strings or Celine and Thom wailing in sadness. If so, i feel the same way, but don’t know how to move on from that…
And i like it when you do your favorite songs, it adds a little spice to the show.
Do deftones passengers with Maynard
Interesting… you’re commenting on bass and vocals but all I can hear is the drummer driving this whole track…
BRUH I love this but how're we gonna do Darkest hour and not start with DEMON(s) ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
