    I feel like Perez was the wild card in Mercedes strategy and played a perfect wingman this past weekend, he should have gotten more attention after the race, despite having a bit of a boring race himself lol. Battles between strategies in less than optimal conditions always make for the best races.

      Perez should've definitely be the driver of the day. Makes no sense that Sainz - with an equipment you should fight for podium - gets the driver of the day with lucky positioning at the end...

    If Lewis had pitted when first asked he would've had time to catch up and tyres would be safe ... Hindsight is a wonderful thing ... Ocon's tyres were delaminated and could've gone at any point... it's a shared team decision

      I think Hamilton's tires were in much better shape because of problaby the best downforce of the whole grid... Ocon's still had the tread but he also had a spot from a lockup... Same lockup could've happened to Hamilton in the last laps too though.

      Not everyone, just the rabid Hamilton fanbois at Sky and in the UK. If you're watching an English language official F1 vid to do with Hamilton, you know its told with a set of blinkers on. Hamilton is a great driver - but I think he made a mistake by not listening to his team. They have the 'bigger picture', and as he said at the end, it's a team sport. Great to see the pressure piling up with competitive cars from other teams - it puts Hamilton's talent into perspective. As George Russel showed last year, any decent driver in that car could dominate and win.

      I do agree that engineers are typically right, but when the conditions are like this, it gets a little tricky. Engineers have a whole lot more information and are able to look at the race from the outside in, but the driver is the only one that can have a feel for what the car is actually performing like. Especially in semi-wet conditions, it can be hard to find that middle point of agreement between driver and engineer.

    • @Kevinschart
      @Kevinschart 2 роки тому +1

      @@JpForrReal either way drivers only know how well they feel in the car. they don't have stats on position intervals, forecasted tire degradation of their opponents, opponent lap times etc. Like OP said 95% of the time engineers are able to make better informed, DATA based decisions. there are hundreds of other variables that need to be considered and drivers simply aren't able to process all the necessary information.

      I’m new to F1 this year, but this is exactly why Hamilton rubs me the wrong way. When he wins it’s all about “great job team!” and when he loses he always blames others.
      Apparently Merc has had a long period of dominations with the car’s speed; it’s nice to see his true character come out when backed up against a corner and facing equal competition.

    Things like these happen in racing all the time, it's more the media that hypes things to get more views. Both this race and last race with Lando, so much unnecessary drama and toxic fans(more like haters for a person than a fan for the sport) use this drama as fodder to spread their own hatred. Seen this many times with both Lewis and max fans.

    Had Lando’s Sochi adventure not occurred the race before, Lewis stays out and likely finishes third. But risk management to protect from the worst was the way to go, esp. with more rain threatening.

      Hard agree, Lewis might have slightly better expected points had he stay out, but the downside is just to much to ignore. getting 5 place and being 6 points behind max is not end of the world but the getting 0 points and 2x point behind max for the very realistic chance of more rain/spin/collison defending/rapture or simple poor performance with a tire that is close to limit would be a disaster
