  • Some of the most anticipated coasters of next year are from Intamin and surprisingly quite a few are in North America. We haven't seen these large-scale Intamin coasters since almost 10 years ago so today we ask the question, Is Intamin coming back to the U.S?

I agree! They are without a doubt the best restraints i have ever seen on a coaster. They do not staple like the gerstlauer Infinity coaster or Mack restraints. The t-bar on expedition GeForce gave me bruishes after riding it the whole day, while i had no problem riding Taron all day.
The B&M restraints are Nice too, however i always feel like they are a bit too open. I think i wouldnt like them on ejector heavy rides.

Intamin is actually rly good at problem solving, they have came up with a solution for nearly every single one of their issues, where most other manufacturers just quit on whatever was causing the issue, in fact I’ve heard a ton of SF and CF higher ups compliment intamin for always being determined to fix their issues and always finding multiple solutions to the issue and not just quitting on their issues, and intamin is even hired by parks to fix other manufacturers rides issues a lot, Efteling is a prime example of this, the only non prototype ride that intamin had a problem with was TTD, but that was cedar fairs fault for ignoring intamins suggestions such as scalability and extending the launch track, and cedar fairs president at the time even admitted to this and said it was the dumbest decision he has ever made, and the reason intamin didn’t build that many coasters in the late 2000’s early 2010’s was actually cuz they intentionally slowed down production in order to spend more time fixing most of their major issues long term, they fixed their wheel, launch, brake, and restraints issues and also made their track fabrication, structural support and lifts much more efficient, and since skyrush I have never seen these issues on an intamin

    • @RPKraul
      @RPKraul 3 роки тому +8

TTD: Intamin could have and should have refused the job, but they seem to never refuse work, even when ridiculous demands on them can lead to disaster, such as TTD and Hagrid’s.

Thanks for crediting our VelociCoaster footage! Loved the video! Intamin is definitely one of the greatest innovators for coaster designs for sure, and from what we've seen with the VelociCoaster it looks as if Intamin learned their lesson from mismanaging testing with Hagrids. They've been consistently running tests day after day with 4-6 months of headroom from their opening date. Hopefully that means that we won't experience the massive amounts of down time that their coasters have been plagued with. From personal experience, Hagrids has been running smoothly for a while now. I haven't experienced downtime for that ride since about six months after opening, and after countless rides on it, the thrills still hold up. I agree that they have a lot of hurdles to overcome with American parks, but I still hope to see more from them in the future. It really does seem that Intamin has matured as a company over the last few years, and if they can prove that with VelociCoaster and Pantheon, hopefully that'll change the landscape for them.

Intamin rly isn’t bad at restraints in the way u think, all of the bad restraints they made were cuz they were forced into it cuz the t bars ejected ppl and were banned in lots of places and by lots of safety groups, so they had to make new restraints that ended up being bad, and then they tried to fix those restraints but ended up making bad restraints again and so on, eventually they got to the restraints they use now tho, which I’ve heard rly good things about, they may not subjectively be the best restraints, but objectively they probably are the best ever, they are comfortable, can give u great room, give u great freedom, but also can do inversions, can keep the rider secure under the strongest forces of all types and can be fitted on so many different types of coasters, so yeah restraints like clamshells give u more room and are more comfortable, but u can’t put a clamshell on any of these coasters, u can’t complain that a coasters restraints are bad cuz they aren’t as good as t bars cuz t bars are only good cuz they technically aren’t safe, and btw there is new generation t bars, which u can find on coasters like the mega lites, formula rossa and ROS, these might look like ur normal t bars but ROS is at my home park and I can tell u that these t bars are designed to be way more bulky and have a bar that traps ur feet to fix the problems of the original, and if u get stapled these things kill ur thighs and they just don’t rly give u as much freedom of the original t bars, so be glad that we have these new over the lap restraints from intamin

I think the SW chain and especially Universal are trying to take away some of the thrill seeker market share away from chains like Six Flags and Cedar Fair. If SW and Universal succeed in doing this, the latter chains will be forced to compete with more innovative and intense rides. B&M simply won't cut it anymore with its tame and overused layouts. Of course, there are also alternatives like Mack and Premier that can provide intense rides but so far it seems like at least Universal has found its favorite.

Honestly I think Intamin will gradually make a resurgence in the U.S. It will take a while for CF and SF to come back to Intamin, but Universal and SeaWorld seem to be huge fans of Intamin and the coasters are massive hits at their parks. Cheetah Hunt at BGT is clear evidence of that and Universal apparently wasn't deterred by the operational mess of Hagrid's when it came to building Velocicaster and Velocicoaster has also been significantly more reliable than the "normal" Intamin mess. SeaWorld will probably add another Intamin to a park, possibly BGT as they have a LOT of unused land at the back of the park and Kumba is reportedly reaching its service life; not to mention the fact Cheetah Hunt sees 90-120 minute queues consistently despite having other incredible coasters like Montu right next to it. Eventually SF or CF will return to Intamin probably to get a blitz variant but I do think it'll be several years. The chains simply cannot ignore how widely popular the recent Intamin's have been especially with the right theming. Enthusiasts love the layouts and intensity in these blitz models (Velocicoaster, Maverick, maybe even CH?) and for some reason the coasters don't seem to scare off the GP. If you put a 155ft drop on any other coaster model in Universal the GP would stray away from it, but for whatever reason GP love it on Velocicoaster.

the way I see it, at least, is that the issue is less with Intamin's actual reliability and more with the fact that the US coaster market is constantly growing. Intamin will do whatever parks want and that extreme level of innovation is what sacrifices reliability for those few rides, whether it's for a year or two, or for it's entire lifespan.

I had heard rumors that SeaWorld / Busch Gardens and Universal want to continue to work with Intamin as long as these newer projects go well.
I think the pandemic throws a wrench in the SeaWorld side of that, but I fully expect Universal to keep plugging away - even if they area bit frustrated with Hagrid's teething problems.
The only "problem" there is how infrequently Universal installs coasters - but with Epic Universe inbound and Velocicoaster already built - I think there's plenty to be excited about.
I'm also hearing rumors of the Hot Racer model popping up more and more. They're extremely compact, offer launches (and rumored to be compatible with Intamin's switch track tech and well), and supposedly price competitive with custom RMC Raptor layouts. If the price is right that could open up the door for more budget conscious chains like Six Flags to start working with them again. The RCM Raptors are also rather extreme rides, while it sounds like Intamin is willing to dial the thrill level to the customers' wants/needs for the Hot Racer (not to say that Alan couldn't bring the spice level back on the Raptor as well).
I do think the Cedar Fair / Intamin relationship is still beyond repair unfortunately.

Won’t name the coaster since I really love my job and am not sure if even by calling it a reliable coaster can talk about this. But for you to guess, the coaster opened in 2002.

Michigan's Adventure actually makes sense from a marketing standpoint to add the first Intamin if Cedar Fair would want to repair their relationship. An Intamin Surfrider 1.0 is only $4-5 Million, and it would fill both major gaps that the park is missing. However, the best advantage is that if the ride is a flop, it would be pretty well hidden from the media, so Cedar Fair would be able to quietly slip away from Intamin a second time.

    • @AceAviations2

I don't think it's the last we'll see on Intamin in the U.S but they might be reserved for the big parks who can afford it like Universal and Disney. I think Universal really fell in love with Intamin not because of Hagrid's, but because of Escape from Gringotts. If Gringotts would have been a mess, Universal would have never gone with Intamin for Hagrid's. And while Intamin has a problem with reliability, that's not enough to detract from how well received the rides are. That's the thing, a good ride can completely wipe away the bad parts of it like the waiting in line due to reliability issues. Also, I think it's unfair to criticize Hagrid's over its early reliability issues. The ride was rushed to open to meet a deadline.
Looking at Velocicoaster and their testing, it looks like it could open early next year but with them putting a date of opening in the summer, it shouldn't have as many reliability issues since they'll be able to have more time for testing and tweaking before the official launch. If it's as well-received as people are hyping, then Universal will more than likely hit Intamin up for at least a ride for Epic Universe; possibly the rumored Donkey Kong minecart ride.

Hershey won't work with Intamin. Skyrush isn't just too intense. The first year the coaster ran, the trains ripped themselves apart because they were too heavy build. A few years ago it needed structural work and an upgraded footer. And recently it's been finding new issues from downtime to lift hill making huge banging noises and more. Hershey will not work with Intamin again.

They'll do the coding and say "good enough, hope it works!" and let the parks attempt to fix the rest. You know the Velocicoaster is going to be down half the day, every day for the first 6 months. That being said, Intamin's new lineup of coaster types look to be on the cheaper side. I think that's how they'll try to tap into the American market.

I think that Intamin is taking the criticism they’ve faced surrounding their reliability issues in North America and using it to improve their rides. The main reason why Intamin is less reliable than B&M is because their ride elements are all individually unique to each ride, while B&M’s elements are more cookie cutter and are purely sized and modeled differently depending on terrain and height restrictions. Reliability is the price you pay for innovation and vice versa.

I'd rather see Vekoma come back than Intamin, their Golden Horse level knockoffs of the RMC Raptor and Mack PowerSplash have left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth so to speak (and MASSIVELY hurt my opinion of the company). Plus Pantheon's layout is far too gimmicky and short for my liking (it feels like it was supposed to be part of a bigger coaster), plus I'm just fed up with the multi-pass launch trend at this point, so featuring that trash hurts it even further. Now compare Pantheon to Abyssus, Abyssus outclasses Pantheon in every regard and doesn't need a stupid gimmick to pad out the ride time. Also F.L.Y. is a masterpiece that is a work of freaking art, plus the Vekoma STC looks amazing as well, oh and we can't forget about the Bremuda Blitz and Wildcat models that look amazing as well.
Honestly at this point I consider Vekoma a better company, yes their past is awful for the most part, but the fact that they made (imo) the superior hyper for Energylandia sould say something.

Intamin did some projects in the US since Skyrush, like Wave Breaker, Falcon's Fury, and Escape from Gringotts. Stuff like the NJ Nick Universe was heavily delayed, too, and was probably close to two years late when it did open in 2019.
One of the things that pulled Intamin's focus was the growth of the Asian market, same with B&M to a lesser extent. This was also the time when a lot of the Middle East projects started dropping like flies, so I'm sure they signed contracts and prepared to be busy for those parks that ultimately, never came to be. Plus, keep in mind that the latter half of the 2010's saw US parks and chains investing in less large-scale coasters, and smaller rides or RMC conversions became popular (along with other ways to generate revenue, like seasonal events, versus just adding a multi-million dollar thrill ride every other season).
Taron's influence and success can't be understated, either, as that became a big hit for them with lots of industry buzz. A lot of Intamin's new coasters will be able to trace their DNA back to this one.
