Outstanding video. Thanks so much Steve. You are a lifesaver! My manual is obviously incorrect as it also says to line up the blue links with the triangles. When I did this the engine would jam as the valves were hitting the piston. I am interested to see whether it was obvious to see if your head gaskets were leaking. I have been replacing mine in my 2010 outback 3.6R
After watching your video, I see you aligned your blue chain links with the small dots. This is also how the Chilton library indicates it should be done. However, AllData is indicating that the blue links align with the triangles, not the dots. Is there any difference between certain models, maybe, or do you think this is simply a misprint? I'd add a picture if I could. The vehicle is a 2010 Tribeca 3.6. Appreciate the video, and thanks in advance.
I know its a while since you commented, but I couldn't imagine the blue lines up with the triangles because 1. the bottom one couldn't line up anyway as the triangle is at the top, and 2. it would completely misalign the gold link, nothing would be on the double dots. Is there a chance you were looking at instructions for the earlier 3.0 H6?
That tensioner is a genius design. I love it!
Excellent video! Explanation was perfect and very easy to follow. Thanks!
Brilliant explanation cheerS
Thank you for this video. Very helpful going to do this on my mothers car later today. 😊
Thank you thank you!
I had no idea how to compress the tensioner, FSM shows just a guy pressing it into a cloth haha
Thank you for the great work

That's probably what it was. I believe I installed them exactly how you instructed and had no problems.
Hi can you share the torque specs in the head bolt please
Very informative. Thank you 😊.
