Sparks Fly: It is believed to be about country singer Jake Owen. Taylor actually wrote it when she was 16, before she released her self-titled debut album in 2006, and performed it live a few times (with some lyrical changes). Back to December: About Taylor Lautner (the werewolf from Twilight), whom she dated back in 2009 and starred with in the romcom Valentine's Day. The lyric "That September night, the first time you ever saw me cry" is in reference to the night Kanye interrupted Taylor's acceptance speech at the VMA's. Fun fact: Taylor is now good friends with Taylor Lautner and his wife, who is also not only called Taylor but Taylor Lautner too since she took his name (maiden name is Dome). I know, it's confusing! Taylor Lautner (the ex) stars alongside Joey King and Presley Cash in Taylor's new music video for I Can See You. Joey and Presley starred in the MV for Mean back when they were kids. Dear John: About John Mayer, whom she dated when she was 19 and he was 32. There's also a song about him on the Midnights 3am edition called Would've, Could've, Should've. John Mayer is known to be a very problematic player. Taylor recently asked fans to spread kindness and to not attack people online, whom they think might have wronged her. She was definitely referring to him. Mean: The inspiration came from a critic who trashed her for apparently singing off-key at the 2010 Grammy Awards. Taylor got the last laugh because 2 years later she performed Mean at the Grammy's, changing the first line of the final chorus to "Someday, I'll be singing this at the Grammy's" and received a standing ovation. ICONIC. The Story of Us: Also about John Mayer. The song references her awkward encounter with him at the CMT Awards. Enchanted: About singer/songwriter Adam Young from Owl City, whom she had a crush on. Taylor actually wanted to name the album Enchanted but her label didn't agree. She settled on Speak Now because she felt it captured the album's essence, with each song being a confession to different people. Better Than Revenge: About actress Camilla Belle, whom Joe Jonas left her for after she appeared in a Jonas Brothers MV. He broke up with Taylor over the phone (the call lasted 27 seconds) and started dating Camilla. There is a lyric change. Taylor changed it from "She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress" to "He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches". She has said multiple times she regrets the original lyric because of the slut-shaming and pitting women against each other. She said "I was 18 when I wrote that. That's the age you are when you think someone can actually take your boyfriend. Then you grow up and realize no one can take someone from you if they don't want to leave." I know some fans don't like the change but it's only cuz we're used to it in a certain way. Personally, this just makes me respect her even more. Times change and Taylor is not the heartbroken 18 year old girl anymore. Also, while Taylor has written several songs about Joe, they are good friends now and she even sent him and his wife a gift when their daughter was born. Innocent: About Kanye West after he interrupted her speech at the VMA's 2009. The line "32 and still growin' up now" is in the original as she is talking about Kanye, who was 32 at the time. This was her way of forgiving him. That's why it's extra sad that he and his wife at the time started publicly attacking her and making up lies about her. That's when she wrote Look What You Made Me Do on Reputation. Haunted: One of my favourites. I love the rock sound, the instruments and Taylor's earlier live performances of this song is a full on theatrical performance. It's so dramatic and I love it. Last Kiss: About Joe Jonas. "That July 9th" is a reference to that date in 2008 when Taylor went to see the Jonas Brothers perform in Dallas, Texas. Taylor recently said she thinks it's the saddest song she's ever written. Long Live: A love letter to her fans and her band/crew, most of whom have been with her since the beginning. When Emma Falls in Love: Rumored to be about Emma Stone, one of Taylor's best friends. Sidenote: "When Emma falls apart and when she's alone, she takes on the pain and bears it on her own" hits hard. Castles Crumbling feat. Hayley Williams: My personal favourite from the vault. The song is at least partially about Kanye. “Used to chant my name, now they’re screaming that they hate me” hints at the moment people booed Kanye for stealing her moment at the VMA's 2009. In Taylor's Netflix documentary Miss Americana she said she thought the people were booing her. Hayley is the one singing in the second verse and backing vocals. She and Taylor have been friends for years and her band Paramore will be an opening act for several of Taylor’s Eras Tour dates in 2024. Timeless: About her grandparents. Taylor previously wrote about her grandmother, who was an opera singer, in the song Marjorie (her name) on Evermore. She was also inspired by her grandfather, a war veteran, in Epiphany on Folklore.
Long Live is a really special song! Taylor wrote it after the Fearless Tour, dedicating it to her band and her fans! The ones that were and are with her to this day. So listening it on her Mature voice and after everything, it hits harder!
long live will always give me chills. written after the success of the fearless tour, she feared it was her only and last tour because she thought speak now would flop and wanted to thank the fans for everything
AJay is awesome because she just listens to lyrics and music. Doesn’t pay attention to the drama or try to analyze Taylor’s life outside of the lyrics she’s writing.
“I love the song writing a lot” fun fact the entire album is self written which she chose to do to prove the haters wrong who said she couldn’t carry her own weight in writing sessions
Enchanted is my favorite song on Speak Now. Stunning song. Loved Taylor since the start. Her songwriting at 14 (or earlier) was so impressive on her debut album. Cold As You still makes me tear up 17 years later as I was in a relationship then abruptly broken up with out of the blue and that song was on repeat for me.
Fun fact, Taylor at a concert recently said that she didn't start making up stories in Folklore since in Speak now writing about someone she liked getting married and she unterrumped him was the most surreal thing in the world HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@@valent579I heard it was two high school friends that dated but split up. Taylor thought they were soulmates but they both moved on so she wrote that song

The order of "Innocent" which has such a haunting melody, directly followed by the gothic and dramatic "Haunted" on the album still gives me goosebumps. What an album
Taylor’s songwriting is literally unmatched and there are links to songs she wrote over a decade apart. In Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve there is a Would’ve verse and a Could’ve verse, there is no Should’ve verse because all of the Should’ve’s are in Dear John
This album is so nostalgic for long time swifties, especially long live, which she wrote on a tour bus after a concert on tour, dedicating it to her band, her fans, and everyone who helped her along the way. ALSO, I definitely recommend after you catch up on all recent albums that you listen to fall out boy’s discography. I know you’ll definitely like a majority of their early 2000’s music.
speak now fun facts! - 'If This Was A Movie' wasn't added to Speak Now (Taylor's Version) because it has a co-writer and she wanted speak now to be pure written by herself. But it's still released. - Better Than Revenge has a lyric 'She's better known for the things that she does on the mattress' which is on the stolen version but changed to 'He was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches' because it was said as mysoginistic. - Timeless was about her grandmother Marjorie and her grandfather's relationship I think, and the lyric 'You were headed off to fight in the war' was about her grandfather, which is said in her song 'epiphany' on folklore and 'marjorie' on evermore - She wrote these songs in the age of 18 to 20, what a legend
I was given this album when I was 13 or 14 and I played it non stop on my boom box in my room with the door locked. So much angst and I would always imagine myself in the scenarios. I was obsessed. Even now as a 27 year old, the music and the lyrics are still impactful and impressive. Goated album and era. 🔥🔥
So regarding Castles Crumbling, she revealed in her film Miss Americana that during the Kanye incident at the VMAs, she thought the crowds were booing her, so this song must have been written at that point. Also there are droplet singles from this era left off the album: If This Was A Movie, Safe & Sound and Eyes Open (please give these a listen)
@@RandomSwiftie13 obviously, the problem is they’re scattered randomly on Spotify. I still wonder why she did it that way, rather than attaching them to the albums they were paired to once they were released.
@@SimonK104She had to release All The Girls because it was leaked, so to promo Eras I think she decided to do some other vault tracks from others at the same time. The reasoning of the Movie track is it is the only Speak Now track that wasn’t purely self written, so she wasn’t going to want to put that on SN. She gave it the Fearless cover only when she got to this and seemed to realize she would have to apply it to another re-release now. I believe she released the Hunger Games tracks with them at this time perhaps because of the difficult recording process as the band associated with them has members that hate eachother now, plus she already had such a large amount of Red bonus tracks when it re-released.
Taylor also released If This Was A Movie TV as part of the Fearless TV era back in march (it was on the deluxe of the og version), I recommend checking it out! She also released All Of The Girls You Loved Before from the lover era, Eyes Open and Safe and Sound as part of the Red TV era too! Luv ya Ajay❤️❤️
I'm still mesmerized on this album because it's literally a masterpiece from start to finish and I'm still fascinated by the song Timeless which has actually brought me to tears because it's about how Taylor's grandparents met and GOD lyrically it's one of my from the vault favorites so far
I wasn’t a fan of Speak Now Album but when the Taylor’s Version come out, the song Timeless really hit through my heart, crying sweet tears. It really made me become a fan of Speak Now.
This is definitely one of my personal favorite Taylor albums. I adore this version but I think what makes this album is the time of its original release. As a teenage girl, this era felt soooo self indulgent. The big princess gowns, the beautifully directed music videos, the seamless blend between themes of love and heart break. This era was truly magical
These songs are all masterpieces, Taylor is a talented queen. Enchanted is one of my all time favourites, that song is so beautiful and it always makes me cry
I think one of the many reasons i love this album is because she experimented a lot musically and this album has always had impressive vocals, but also that its self written combined with all of that makes it feel like amazing confessional storytelling in a creative way. I personally would say it's a skipless album but i have also always been a fan of Taylor ❤
Mean is a song about a critic who didn't liked her at all, said she can't sing and said her music was bad and terrible, but she wrote that song as a response and also prove to him that he is wrong. And she won a grammy from this song
Also “I can see you” has a music video and I think you should watch it! Taylor Lautner is in it and it’s a huge deal because “Back to December” is about him and he regretted not standing up for her during the whole Kanye thing so it’s wholesome to see how much they have both grown ❤
Just the absolute joy at listening to this album sums up what it’s like to come back to it 13 years later, it’s so nostalgic and you realize how insanely good the album was for her age and it’s time

bestie long live is not about a person in specific she was in love with, it’s about her band and about her fans 💜
More specifically, go back and listen while thinking of high school graduation. It's exact. I know it's also connected to touring with her band, but seriously it's amazing how much it's like Miss Americana lol
@@macsethi can’t even describe how many people used Long Live for their stories on instagram during our closing ceremonies this year.
I think it’s specifically about her band only. Why would the fans even be “we will be remembered”. Yes they partake in her success, but they don’t involve directly to her music production

@@eleventyseven3742no she does forget to say “hold up lemme put a goddamn mark to it” a lot of the times so
U miss enchanted
You missed Last Kiss, Never Grow Up, Enchanted. She had it on her recap at 57:47
Sparks Fly: It is believed to be about country singer Jake Owen.
Last Kiss, sadder than "Bigger Than The Whole Sky"?? Really??

AJay is awesome because she just listens to lyrics and music. Doesn’t pay attention to the drama or try to analyze Taylor’s life outside of the lyrics she’s writing.
agreed who cares what dude each song is about, it's limiting people's interpretation. taylor herself said she wants us to picture our exes, not hers.
like how some fans are sure that "bigger than the whole sky" is about her miscarriage, that's just fucked up.
“I love the song writing a lot” fun fact the entire album is self written which she chose to do to prove the haters wrong who said she couldn’t carry her own weight in writing sessions
I thought she'd only react to the vault tracks 😭 WE WON
Enchanted is my favorite song on Speak Now. Stunning song.
Loved Taylor since the start. Her songwriting at 14 (or earlier) was so impressive on her debut album. Cold As You still makes me tear up 17 years later as I was in a relationship then abruptly broken up with out of the blue and that song was on repeat for me.
12:30 Love the fact that you connected the thematics between “Dear John” and Midnights’s “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve”
Fun fact, Taylor at a concert recently said that she didn't start making up stories in Folklore since in Speak now writing about someone she liked getting married and she unterrumped him was the most surreal thing in the world HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The thing is that speak now was inspired by Hailey Williams's old highschool crush/sweetheart getting married, not someone Taylor liked

The fact that she was so so young writing this album and had so much growth and wrote these lyrics is behind me! Her vocals sound incredible!! She really tops herself each and every time.
Fall Out Boy was and is still one of the best pop/alternative rock bands. They made a lot of songs and have a great discography.
The way she can flawlessly re record her albums and constantly improve. Mother is mothering as always 🤌🏻

In 2023, Haunted is still my favorite song. I love since the beginning. Amazing song. I wish she had more song like Haunted.
This is so true haunted has such a cool melody imo
The order of "Innocent" which has such a haunting melody, directly followed by the gothic and dramatic "Haunted" on the album still gives me goosebumps. What an album
Taylor’s songwriting is literally unmatched and there are links to songs she wrote over a decade apart. In Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve there is a Would’ve verse and a Could’ve verse, there is no Should’ve verse because all of the Should’ve’s are in Dear John
Fiona Apple is a better songwriter

Dude I'm so amazed
Yes it’s shocking
speak now fun facts!
- Timeless was about her grandmother Marjorie and her grandfather's relationship I think, and the lyric 'You were headed off to fight in the war' was about her grandfather, which is said in her song 'epiphany' on folklore and 'marjorie' on evermore
- She wrote these songs in the age of 18 to 20, what a legend
Oooh so that's why ITWAM was in Fearless TV instead of this. I always wonder why 😮
@@cloversimssIt’s technically not on Fearless (Taylor’s Version), it was just assigned that album cover and released as a standalone track
She wrote Timeless for her grandparents 💜 in the lyric video you can see lovely pictures of them 🥹
I was given this album when I was 13 or 14 and I played it non stop on my boom box in my room with the door locked.
Yeah but Taylor's Versions of those songs of course.
@@RandomSwiftie13 obviously, the problem is they’re scattered randomly on Spotify. I still wonder why she did it that way, rather than attaching them to the albums they were paired to once they were released.
@@SimonK104 I have no idea. She randomly released them a day before her The Era's Tour started.

This is when I became a fan
Never grow up is truly a masterpiece. It really pulls at your heartstrings it’s something that really hits harder with age.
These songs are all masterpieces, Taylor is a talented queen. Enchanted is one of my all time favourites, that song is so beautiful and it always makes me cry
Enchanted is everything 👌🏼
Speak Now wasn’t my favorite album back then but this Taylor’s Version, IT SPEAKS TO MY SOUL. 💜💜💜
‘Mine’ is one of Taylor’s best songs. Always has been and always will be!
6:43 FACTS ! A reason why Taylor will always be my favorite songwriter/singer 💜
Also “I can see you” has a music video and I think you should watch it! Taylor Lautner is in it and it’s a huge deal because “Back to December” is about him and he regretted not standing up for her during the whole Kanye thing so it’s wholesome to see how much they have both grown ❤
Just the absolute joy at listening to this album sums up what it’s like to come back to it 13 years later, it’s so nostalgic and you realize how insanely good the album was for her age and it’s time
"Timeless" is about Taylor's grandparents. Her grandfather fought the WW2. She's telling their story in those lyrics

We need the queen to react to RAYE's debut album My 21st Century Blues! It is truly a divine project, genre-bending but still cohesive. i highly recommend you to watch the lyric video for the timeless song! it's inspired by her grandparents love story, i think it's so sweet and it makes the whole song so much more special! as always, loved the reaction, queen! 💜💜
I had so much fun with you, this video is a gem 💜💜💜
Thank you for listening to the entire album, it means a lot
Ajay here’s some albums I think you should listen:
- “And in the darkness, hearts aglow” by Weyes Blood (you loved her 2019 project titled “Titanic Rising”)
- “Desire I want to turn into you” by Caroline Polacheck (her 2019 song “Door” was one of your favourites)
- “That! Feels Good!” by Jessie Ware (your 2020 song of the year was a Jessie Ware’s song)
- “Diamonds & Dancefloors” by Ava Max (it’s great!)
- “Gag Order” by Kesha (also great lol)
- “Preacher’s Daughter” by Ethel Cain (a beautiful concept album with a beautiful plot)
Btw beautiful video💜
I hope she reacts to Desire, I Want to Turn Into You too😭 FINGERS CROSSED
TASTE! also boosting to spread the ethel cain agenda, the only thing about that album is I REALLY need her to have the words in front of her bc sooo much can slip through the cracks
Ugh yesssss to all of these especially Ethel cain but also crash by charli xcx??????
AND PUNISHER BY PHOEBE AND THE RECORD BY BOYGENIUS
+ Higher Than Heaven by Ellie Goulding! 🩷
Gurl you literally put a smile on my face 😊
Ugh, this album is so exciting and I love that you get excited about these songs too. They marked my teenage years and it's such a great experience to see other people listening to them and being moved by the lyrics.
I love you and your videos AJay, keep being your amazing self and inspiring everyone❤
Last kiss is my all-time fav from her 💜💜💜
Speak Now literally is her best work to date
Seeing AJay sing so passionately to Enchanted was something I didn't know I needed in my life
Just love your reactions to Taylor's music, especially when you are feeling it and grooving along. Thank you!
