    Appreciate you taking the time to make this video. I had one small issue I would caution others about on one of the two magazines I worked on. When pushing the punch into the hole "until you hear it click" I had a few pieces chip off of my spring plate from the inside of the magazine. It might be better to get your grip with the pliers, then use your punch to just slightly depress the pin on the spring plate so that you don't cause breakage. Still very much appreciate your time and effort to make the video. It was a helpful reminder, since I haven't had to do this in probably 6 years and completely forgot how to get that sucker off.

    Thank you SIR, I asked the goofballs at the range to help me with the disassembly and they said nothing about having to squeeze the magazine body, nothing. Had I not found your helpful video I would have been stuck and probably in tears. Thank you so much! I can put the Sawzall away now.

    I've done it this way for years and have never broke/cracked a magazine. With the leverage you get from the channel locks, it doesn't take much of a squeeze to get the plate off. Just remember..... Take it easy.

    This works well but, if you have a vise, an even easier method is to take the mag, wrap a towel around it then slowly tighten the vise until you can easily slide the old plate off. This method frees up both your hands. Thanks for the video!

    Alternatively, you can use the punch you insert in the hole to lever off the inside of the magazine and push the baseplate to get it moving. Once it starts, it goes easy. Great walk-through, though!

    I thought it was because I’d gotten too old since my last Glock purchase 25 years ago that I’d lost my hand strength. Thankfully I saw this video and knew that not only is that not necessarily the case, but that I’m not alone! I just got a new M29 and I need to put some Pearce grip extenders on my two primary mags. Thanks for this!

  • @that1electrician
    @that1electrician Рік тому +1

    Don't use Channies with teeth grooves.
    Buy a pair of Knipex smooth jaw pliers. Not only do they not have teeth, they close parallel so you have an equal amount of force against the pressing edge of the jaws, instead of only "pinching" pressure at the tip.
    They are so handy. For taking mags apart, pressing in roll pins, tightening barrels and muzzle accessories, pretty much anything you can think of.
    It is worth the price for sure

    For the best results take a pocket knife go underneath the base plate and pry the sides it does not damage the mag it only damages the base plate and if you are trying to put a extended magazine Play you’re not gonna need the original bass play anyway it’s a lot easier and it saves a lot of time

    • @BRadgambler
      @BRadgambler 7 років тому +1

      I never have and unless I'm rich NEVER will do a torture test on any of my guns. My "torture test" is if the gun can shoot a few thousand rounds without a failure. If I get zero failures it's fine !! So far my Beretta M9A1 is still 100% reliable over every other gun I own except my AR which is a "frankenAR" too. Even over my gen4 Glock my Beretta is still more reliable...

    • @dougfresh1341
      @dougfresh1341 5 років тому

      Berretta more reliable?? I have my doubts. The torture and testing Austria performed in the 80's concluded no one touched Glock. Not H&K, Sig, FN. nor the vaunted Beretta. The Glock 17 is still the standard.

      Oh it did some damage even using a cloth. I had to use channel locks too and they scuffed the magazine, cut in to the old plate. Was having a hard time. Saw another video of a guy using a glock tool. Noticed it was longer than my pin punches. Used a small screw driver to push the pin in, channel locks to squeeze it, plate came off without much trouble.

    Okay, guys. Here's a tip for you. No tools needed. There is a trick to this, ten seconds and you're done.
    1) Hold the mag firmly in your off (weak) hand, butt end up, folower end of mag between your knees, round end of plate facing away from you.
    2) Insert the tip of the punch into the hole and depress down on the tab wich is actually part of the inner floor plate. Once the tab is down, angle the tool so the handle end of the punch is towards you, the tip away and gently but firmly work the end of the punch in PAST the nib. You'll feel it go in a quarter to half of an inch or so. Make sure you feel a solid purchase as you try to pry away from you.
    3) Now, keeping downward pressure on the punch, gently pry the handle away from you and the base plate will simply slide forward away from you. Warning!!!! Go easy at first, being sure to capture the inner floor plate/spring assembly with a finger so it doesn't jump out. That's all there is to it! No squeezing of sides required. Hope that helps!
