Matt I'm one of the (badly) dancing people in your 2012 video. Because of you, I started traveling the world. Along the way I met my now wife, and am sitting on the other side of the planet from where I grew up. Afunakwa may have changed your life, but you also changed mine.
Man, what a blast from the past. When your 2008 video first came out, I was going through a depressive episode and it helped me a lot during that time; I would put it on when I needed to feel something good so that I could continuing functioning. I actually wrote a message to you about it on your website, and you posted the message anonymously in your blog. Both the video, and your recognition of my genuine words of appreciation, meant so much to me at a time when I was struggling so much to feel connected to life. Seeing that opening with the goat on the motorcycle (which I, admittedly, never noticed) brought me back and made me grateful again for your video and your kindness. I can't wait to hear more stories.
Hi Matt, nice to hear/see an update from you. A very entertaining presentation of your former adventures, I just miss your smile from 2003/2008. Greetings from SouthWest Germany!
This family didn't even have passable roads to their village, so I'm sure they would've never known that you used her song. For you to repay them the way you did is very honorable & respectful. Hats off to you sir
That Afunakwa vocal was a voice from my childhood because of the French song being a minor hit in the 90s. I’m so glad to see Matt trying to amends in his way.
What you did to make up for that song... Is beyond me... You are a blessing to everyone I believe. Wow. Speechless. Made me cry. ♥Your 2008 video still remains the most beautiful idea & execution of all the videos up here. My heart can hurt and I feel down.... Watching your video always makes me smile and feel better. Thank you. ♥ Greets from Germany ♥
I loved your story since i was a teenager. For many times i cried watching your 2008 videos for such huge and full of culture the world is. Now watching the making of it becomes even more greatful. Thanks for that, Matt. you really changed my mind KEEP MAKING THIS COMMENTED VIDEOS FULL OF STORIES
I’ve watched probably hundreds of thousands of videos on UA-cam since I was a child, but if anyone were to ask me to pick my favourite out of those thousands, the answer will always be your Where the Hell is Matt videos. Dancing is such a pure expression of joy, and I’ve always loved that at its core, your videos were just about a guy who wanted to bring happiness to the world, and have fun while doing it. I come back to those videos time and time again whenever I need a pick me up, or just want to be reminded that there will always be people out there who are good and just want to make others smile. Knowing how far you went to make sure that you paid tribute to an uncredited singer that most wouldn’t have given a second thought to, warms my heart and reminds me why I felt so touched by those videos all those years ago. Thanks for everything, and I can’t wait to see more from this series!
OMG, a video series about my favourite YT video of all time, in a well-made presentation presented by the man himself??!! I ASSUME I DIED THIS MORNING, 'COZ THESE GATES ARE PPPPEAAAARRRRLLLYYY!!!! :D On a serious note - thanks for the 2008 video, Matt. It is STILL something I reguarly rewatch to cheer myself up (I have a "happy video playlist".). As a guy with numerous mental health issues, sometimes this is an even bigger help than you could ever know. :)
Good to hear from you! I was imagining if a fundraiser account could be created so that anyone who's ever downloaded ir enjoyed the rorogwela song in its many versions could pay in to the account to settle up the debt. This could be used to improve the whole village as it would have had they been cut a proper deal all along. Think how many of us regularly enjoy Sweet Forest Melody even now?
The 2008 video is my favorite and I still watch it every couple months when I need a lift. You did a good thing for so many people. I'm 76 years old. P.S. the Munich grandpa in the orange crocs has got to be my favorite dancer but there are plenty more, including the little girl in the blue vest.
I miss your dancing, Matt. I vividly remember the first time I saw one of your videos. I remember how it made me feel. And, my god, I needed to feel that way at that time. The weird thing is (and this is honestly the truth) it's been a while since I thought about your videos but *the day before* you released this, your videos sprung into my head and I found myself wondering what you were up to.
Wow, thanks so much for doing this. I loved the 2008 video. I had a hard time in 2008 and your video gave me a lot of joy. I haven't watched this yet, but when I watched the 2008 video recently, It felt like you re edited it because scenes seemed like they were in a different order from where I remembered them being.
Matching the donations so far, to give you something to match. :) To this day your videos remain to me one of the best examples of what the benefits of the internet could be, and how it can bring people together. Thank you!
Hello Matt. what a surprise to find this video after all these years. your ideas have been of great inspiration to me much more than the most famous climbers or great explorers. and what you have shown here is important. great trips and many unexpected events. but so much beauty.
Matt! So great to see an update from you, and glad to see you’re in good health. Fascinating stories, keep them coming! Much love from Queens (formerly Brooklyn)
Wow, thank you for these videos, your 2008 really inspired me. I even have 2 copies of your book. I live in South Africa and and getting it wasn’t easy. Also access to Praan - I had to buy on a different account apple accounts. It one of my most favourite pieces of music. Would have loved to see you when you came for your diski dancing here. Hearing the stories behind the videos will probably amplify and make the original videos even more special. If you ever back in SA- let us know. Thank you!
Your videos have inspired me, moved me, and brought so much joy to my students over the last ten+ years. Thank you for your sweet, hopeful, and inspiring videos all these years.
I am SO happy you posted this. I've really needed a boost lately, and am in the midst of planning some solo travel (was going to be visiting a friend, but now it's.. just me.) You have inspired me for so many years, and I love what you do/did. Thank you thank you.
You inspired me back then. I even mimic your video in 2006. And then, when I discovery that you where coming to Brazil, I flew to meet you in Rio de Janeiro. Sorry the weather wasn't good, but I'm proud until today to tell that I'm in a shot with Matt.
This is wonderful. I've always thought you seemed like a nice bloke, but to go to such lengths to make reparations for the use of the music is just amazing. Well done.
Glad to see this kind of videos explaining behind the scenes which are soooo important and, just like lots of people around, I still watch your videos regularly and enjoy them. I even read your book I got with your small notes for me and I shared your experience with lots of people around by just showing your book :)
That is amazing that you travelled all that way to make things right with the family. Not many people would do that. I remember watching your dancing video back in the day, probablly when it came out, it was such an amazing video then and its an amazing video now.
It's great to see you again! This was totally unexpected. I used to love the dance videos back in the days, when the web was young. Greetings from Sweden!
You actually changed my life! I became a travel agent because of your dancing adventures… now I have seen so many of your dancing spots… You are an inspiration… Thank you ❤
This is great! I can't wait to learn more behind the scenes of how you made your videos and the people you met. So much has happened to the places you have visited in the past 15 years. You're awesome. Always a fan. The book you signed for me sits proudly on my shelf with my treasures from around the world.
If this is any indication, I look forward to more of the Behind the Scenes and Never Told stories from those old viral videos. They never failed to emotionally move me and this is the reward for staying subscribed all these years later :D
Thank you for these little clips. I always looked forward to watching them then you first put them out. I have always wondered what happened to Matt and where the hell were you! So glad you are back. I feel your work helps bring world peace in a lovely way. Again thank you these clips that give me joy and hope and makes me laugh. Peace.
Hi matt. İ m happy to see you here. We started our journeys after watch your dances and videos. But time time. You r older like us. But memories always in our minds. Take care bro. Loves from Turkey🇹🇷

Figured, I'll check where you're at today and there you are, with a 2day-old video. Glad you and your vids are still around to make us all smile and make the world a better place. Stay safe!
