Gee,a chain saw video!! I must say I have never used a chain saw to cut up plastic. Great idea. I most of the time used a Sawzall. The chain saw sure was a lot fast.Did a very good job too. I guess it's true, you can learn a lot by watching a good video channel. Thanks 😊.
You are not raising Boys your raising young Men. Men that will have the skills to take care of their family, their Home and teach their children the same skills. Something that is lost in today's world. Well done.
Nice reinvented salt feeder, recycle, reuse, renew. Looks good too in the new location, good decision by Dad and the Real Boss... Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I love watching you make something you need out of things you already have. My niece's teachers couldn't figure out how they could be so creative. They were farm kids that didn't get much screen time. Thank you for sharing another day on the farm. Stay safe, and God bless.
Great video!! Reuse and renew. Our one cow had a bull calf, he was in field with Mom, a few weeks old and someone driving by saw him, liked the looks of him and gave us a great price for the calf. That was 1980.
Fun fact. Before the modern settlers discovered oranges the color was actually called “yellow red” or geoluread. So the color is actually naked after the fruit
Looks like a pretty indestructible salt/mineral feeder!!! Good use for extra items. Bored bulls can be a 4 legged destruction crew...whatever the breed.
Hey Gierck farms! Great videos! I worked on a 75 cow dairy farm in the 70's, we did all the things you do except we had a double 4 herringbone parlor Anyway I am having a catalog sent to you from a place called Steiner tractor parts New parts for old tractors They have a warehouse bigger than a Walmart store. I think you might just find it helpful. Keep up the good work. Dean
That was ingenious. I look forward to some field work videos and letting the cows out to the pasture for the first time. Thanks for sharing the videos.
I love watching every video you put out. It’s always a pleasure seeing everyone working and it’s a beautiful farm. You are an amazing family and truly blessed. Thank you and God Bless
I really like the salt feeder. We just cut an opening in a 55 gallon barrel and bolt it to a post with stainless hardware so it doesn't rust. We just have heifers and a few steers on our dairy and they last about 3-4 years before they need to be replaced
Great job. When my Grandpa was milking, he had jerseys, and he said that jersey bulls were just about the meanest kind of bull. But I think he almost always had a bull around. He said he tried AI a couple of times, but it never went good.
Interesting to see a small farm run bulls. I'm across the state from you and only big operators had bulls. My dad absolutely refused to deal with them, so we were all AI all the time. He even stopped keeping one off steers due to them "causing trouble"
I am a former dairy farmer and still raise a few jerey and jersey cross springers, and a few steers. My suggestion is to go to a top herd in your area and tell them you want two bull calves out of good cows- and raise them yourselves from newborns. If they are raised together I don't think they would fight, at least not when they were younger. Split your heifers in half and put one bull with each group til you know that you are getting heifers bred- then sell one of them- do you like the red and whites? We always had jerseys, but if I had holsteins I would have the red ones. Of course, it would be more nuisance to house them and make sure they could not get in with the heifers until you wanted them to- but that way you would not be searching for a bull of breeding size. Not many producers around here in NYS keep bull calves, I doubt they do out there either.
Hey Guys , BikeMike here , I was really surprised when you mounted that tire vertically. Not what I was thinking at all . I left a comment on the video when you were making a new log mineral feeder for out in the pasture. I would have used the tire , laying down , cut the barrel down to correct height and insert it into the tire , secure it to tire , if feeding more than one type of mineral, put dividers inside barrel like a pie slice Find a piece of material that would fit over the barrel top , but make it bigger than the barrel opening . Put a center post inside the barrel, that can be used to secure the cover flap to the barrel. The cattle can lift the flap and get their mineral , the flap falls back down covering the barrel, keeping out the weather . You could probably secure tire to railroad ties under tire , to minimize any attempt of bovines upsetting the mineral feeder and you could still move it around with the skid steer if needed
Hey guys! I recently bought a bull from Bob Johnson in Baldwin. Good honest guys with really good cows with high components. Good selection of jumper bulls. Thanks for the videos
That was a pretty neat little project, repurposeing old stuff. I always used large rubber pans from Southern States. Drilled holes in the back of the pan, run wire through it and tied it to a post. Had a roof over the pan and let the cattle use it free choice. Worked for years
I like your mineral feeder. I live in South Dakota where we get about 19" of rain a year. We run about 150 cow calf pairs in each pasture. We buy used Hubbard Crystalix barrels at the elevator to feed salt and mineral in. We use 3 for each 150 pairs. They last 3 or 4 years before they rust out.
When we were kids, we use to get funny and lick the salt block out in the pasture! We use to do all kinds of stuff! We had to entertain ourselves! What come first, the Chicken or the egg? Chicken, If you look in the dictionary, C comes before E ! I learned that in 2end grade!! you know cows, they'll have that busted up in a week!! Good job, I think an overhang would keep the weather out! overhang would get destroyed!!
Have any of you heard anything about the dairy that exploded in Texas? I saw an article that said they would have to get milk in from surrounding states, causing other states to fill in the losses. That should cause a major price spike.
The bull station in Shawano sells young bulls they don't want to keep any longer; they sell them at a sales barn. If you had some connection in the industry you could pick one of them up if you could find the day and sales barn.
Just outside of Marshfield. I'll get a couple names for you on Bulls. We have some good old farmers here who still run & breed some bulls. I'll reach out get that info for you tomorrow.
In my early thirties I had to make a career change from dairies to horses. I now run a boarding stable. About that time I met a horseman, really a stockman from Alberta. One of the things he said was studs are told by mother nature to push everything out of their way. Now a stud horse will try to establish himself by biting. You ever have a horse like that get ahold of your arm there is a good your going to lose it. My teacher never punished horses. He arranged things so the horse thought he was putting pressure on himself and that's how my teacher changed their minds. Bulls are no different other than they go in like a bulldozer and grind you into the dirt. At home I have Holstein steers and sheep. When I get a new ram I get respect established right from the start. When they try to ram me, their nose runs into my foot or whatever else I have handy. After two or three tries they stop for the rest of the time I have them. When I was working with registered Holsteins, those were the best cows. They were pleasant to handle a very well put together. Solid feet and legs, good udders, with longevity. That's where I would be looking for bull personally because the large focus on the genetics.
Years back they sold tires turned inside out for mineral feeders. Too cheap to buy one, a buddy gave me a fat Mickey Thompson he’d cut the sidewall on. I took it to the farm and cut one bead off and turned it inside out. Never did another one. I wrestled with that danged tire half a day it seemed!
You might look at back to the basics 101 UA-cam channel. Luke made a mineral feeder out of a semi tire and some conveyer belt. I have a wind vane mineral feeder and I u bolted it to a rear tractor tire so the bull would quit knocking it over and tearing it up 😂now it just wobbles with the tire
If the cows get bored and mess with stuff like unlocking gates would they be more content and more productive if somebody hung some chains from fence posts to keep them entertained?
Have a question about your tire is it going to hold water did the orange come first or the fruit Orange ask Adam and Eve they're the ones that named everything
Nice engineering on the feeder! As far as bulls go you guys know full well the dangers involved.. What some people don't realize is he is no pet. Never trust a bull, never turn your back on him or get in a confined space with him. Management, the proper facilities and safety awareness is key to having a bull. No more bulls for me, I've seen what they can turn into...be safe.
I know you do some AI breeding also, Have you ever thought about using a beef bull and sexed semen to get replacement heifers from.. Might ad some value to the calves.
Watching the video's of 18000 cows screaming , industrial dairy at its worst not getting them out of the holding pen since that place has probably no pasture, left me sick. I pray your operation never goes away, my family used to dairy like you but the milk checks were getting below $20.00 . I see you guys love your girls and treat them well, we all know their last day will come but good farmers make sure they are well treated.
Back in the 1950s, us old folk use to just put a block of salt, which was on a short pole, out in the middle of field and let our cows lick it to their delight. The blocks were either pink or blue. God created the animal first. So the egg would have come after. God created the fruit first before Adam and Eve, so Adam who named all animals would have named the Orange orange when he saw it.
Nice improvement!!! Individual colors 2 million years ago... they have found some cave colors, 4 main colors... dating 30 million years ago-ish.... You could always use some artificial insemination... hope get a good herd bull calf and raise him to breeding age. Just a thought
If an orange is orange, no matter which came first, why is a lemon not named yellow?? Why is a lime not called green. You guys are getting deep. Here's one for you, why do we park in the driveway, and drive on the parkway?? Why are their eight hog dog buns in a package, and ten weiners in a package? It needs to dry up so you can get in the fields. Ya'll thinking too much.
Check your Facebook messages. I sentyou the number of my friend Jackie. She has been farming her whole life she has fantastic stock. She has a registered bull available born last July Aug. She is my neighbor & the farm is just outside of Auburndale 20 mon east of Marshfield WI.
Pops is solid. The farm is in good hands.
Gee,a chain saw video!! I must say I have never used a chain saw to cut up plastic. Great idea. I most of the time used a Sawzall. The chain saw sure was a lot fast.Did a very good job too. I guess it's true, you can learn a lot by watching a good video channel. Thanks 😊.
First of all I was pretty sure this would involve a chainsaw. Like the placement of the salt feeder. Blends in more. Thanks for another good video.
Great solution and it even looks like it should be there with all the wheels in the fence, great job!
You are not raising Boys your raising young Men. Men that will have the skills to take care of their family, their Home and teach their children the same skills. Something that is lost in today's world. Well done.
Like the new feeder.
I like how farmers utilize things they don’t get rid of and put it to good use. Way cheaper than buy new.
Good job on that mineral feeder men! Your also repurposing materials around the farm and giving it new life.
I always enjoy what ever you post on your farm Thank you.
You are impressive folks.
Nice reinvented salt feeder, recycle, reuse, renew. Looks good too in the new location, good decision by Dad and the Real Boss... Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting wheel fence.
Necessity is the mother of invention. You guys do a great job of using what you have ,no waste 😁. Thanks for sharing your day
Aaron, trying to get that one going again is funny.😂
Nice to see you using what you have instead of buying new. It keeps the brain moving creatively and serves an invaluable purpose.
I love watching you make something you need out of things you already have. My niece's teachers couldn't figure out how they could be so creative. They were farm kids that didn't get much screen time. Thank you for sharing another day on the farm. Stay safe, and God bless.

Al Lundberg over by pigeon falls still raises Holstein bulls. He's got a beautiful herd.
Looks like a pretty indestructible salt/mineral feeder!!! Good use for extra items. Bored bulls can be a 4 legged destruction crew...whatever the breed.
Hey Gierck farms! Great videos! I worked on a 75 cow dairy farm in the 70's, we did all the things you do except we had a double 4 herringbone parlor

New parts for old tractors

We get bulls from pine shelter farms in pine island MN. They have been good for us and they usually advertise in the dairy star
Great job. When my Grandpa was milking, he had jerseys, and he said that jersey bulls were just about the meanest kind of bull. But I think he almost always had a bull around. He said he tried AI a couple of times, but it never went good.

Trent way Genetics in southern Wisconsin has some top animals.
Loved it ..always something different ...
Premier livestock normally has some really good Holstein Bulls. I know they have a nice red for sale right now
Thanks for the bull talk.
Great job guys mom's happy with where it's at all is good

Just outside of Marshfield. I'll get a couple names for you on Bulls. We have some good old farmers here who still run & breed some bulls. I'll reach out get that info for you tomorrow.
Great idea! It's always nice to save money these days. Great idea and keep it up!!
Great farmer engineering, nice to see Mason again!
MORE WHEELS THEN DOORS 😂😂, 🤷
Can you put the real Boss on a video, a/k/a Mom❤❤❤ you have the best videos.

Good idea there guys
Said it once, I'll say it again. Master class farming. Get a pen and paper.
would drain holes help?
Jon Raethke from Pepin Wisconsin they raise bulls for sale and they have very good genetics
thank you
dad is great❤
Another question; How did they measure hail before golf balls were invented?
Peas and marbles! 😂
I really like it.
if you want a Fleckvieh bull Cabin Hill Dairy has some good ones and makes a good dairy cross just my opinion
Cow approved
Families working together create the most creative philosophies. Looking for a bill I would think about trying the Amish farmers near LaFarge??
You might look at back to the basics 101 UA-cam channel. Luke made a mineral feeder out of a semi tire and some conveyer belt. I have a wind vane mineral feeder and I u bolted it to a rear tractor tire so the bull would quit knocking it over and tearing it up 😂now it just wobbles with the tire
Have you considered an Angus bull?
You have a salted your cattle! The mineral feeders I used were hard plastic. Flat rubber on top. One bolt in center.
Gentlemen it is a tire not a wheel
Is there an option to trade another dairy farm bull for bull?
good job
Check with kip Sigler on his UA-cam channel. He switches bulls on his dairy. He maybe knows something to help you out
Contact kip siegler he does all bull breeding he might have an idea where to buy one . Or you can raise one yourself
Lots of guys in Michigan where I live raise bulls.
The color orange came first as well as all the colors and the chicken came first 😀
I call it agricultural engineering. When you make something instead of buying it.
Try Todd stanek fall creek wis
My boss went and found a farmer near Stevens point who raises bulls. He said they had a bin of baseball bats to pick out which one he wanted.
The color was named after(or from) the fruit. Colors always existed, they just didn't have names for them.
Cole Orange first
Or the 10th generation farmer
Nice engineering on the feeder! As far as bulls go you guys know full well the dangers involved.. What some people don't realize is he is no pet. Never trust a bull, never turn your back on him or get in a confined space with him. Management, the proper facilities and safety awareness is key to having a bull. How do you piss off someone from Wisconsin?
Tell them Happy Cows are in California.😂
I know you do some AI breeding also,

i admirer you guys operation. i only thing i disagree with your dad is he should use the top genetics that he can get.
Nice improvement!!! Individual colors 2 million years ago... they have found some cave colors, 4 main colors... dating 30 million years ago-ish.... You could always use some artificial insemination... hope get a good herd bull calf and raise him to breeding age. Just a thought
I know it's not the right breed but should talk to sonnie farms he's a bull breeder
Nice project, And you used up something that to most is just clutter.
The chicken came first. An egg will not hatch without a broody mama caring for it.
Pretty sure if U had 2 or 3 girls to service every day U would need a nap and b more mellow. LOLOLOL
If an orange is orange, no matter which came first, why is a lemon not named yellow?? Why is a lime not called green. You guys are getting deep. You guys are all that and a bag of chips
Your being pushed into AI.
Read Genesis when God spoke the animals into existence they were fully grown so the chicken came first
Slick idea for mineral feeder
