I can’t thank you enough man. Like many disc golfers, we don’t actually get any real training. Our buddies just let us go out there and throw and we never really develop proper technique despite knowing we are throwing incorrectly. I’m a good forehand thrower but man have I been throwing wrong!!!! You just helped me tremendously!! After years, I’m finally feeing good.
Dude your shot at the end looked damn near effortless, which I need to keep in mind. Once I started breaking 350+ foot backhands I realized how the motion is smooth and "effortless" - obviously there is some effort involved. I'm going to keep the effortlessness of your throw in mind next time I go out to practice forehands, thanks for the tips!
Keep turning out the instructional videos. Maybe do one showing how wind affects a throw or putt. When I was beginning in disc golf, this was a topic I wish there was more instruction on. Maybe discuss disc selection based on a tailwind or headwind. And how the wind direction will affect putts. I think that would be very useful for those just getting into the sport! Great video. Appreciate the efforts!
I took your guidance of throwing the way that feels best for you. Until the last 2 weeks, I was trying the traditional sidearm and couldn’t get it to work that well for power. But this video gave me the encouragement to try something else. Now I’m ripping power forehands with a baseball 3/4 arm throw. I use neutral-slightly overstable discs so I do lean/tilt forward. But I’m now throwing 350-380 relatively accurately where as I previously was throwing 260 inaccurately. Thanks for the video and keep ‘Em coming!
My guy! Thank you! I recently got back into disc golfing and my fore arm throws were completely unstable, instantly flipped, and I lost 4 discs in 2 months. I just over compensated my back hand and used placement as a crutch to distance. 10 throws using your technique with my putter for me comfortable, I finally tickled 200+ on a standard t bird fairway driver. You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
I needed this video. I’ve been doing backhands throws and killing my shoulder, that i have problems with due to an injury. I started trying this yesterday and now i can refine it and actually have good drives! Thanks!
I started discing in the 90s and, after a long hiatus, I'm on the course(s) again. A few arm injuries have me switching to a forehand for drives. Thanks for the much needed help!
I just started playing. I had played before a few times, even though I enjoyed it, I was always pissed half the time. After one video on grip and the forehand throw I half-heartedly tossed my disc. The disc went straight and farther than any throw or drive I’d ever had…that Tin Cup thing about the loins…I’m hooked. Keep it up.
Thanks for your help. As an aging disc golfer who is "getting back into it" after retiring, I need to develop this throw as I have lost lots of distance in my backhand. I am amazed at the distance you can get with minimal input. My drives still flop like wounded ducks. I can use the forehand fairly well for upshots, but when I try to add in more power, I don't get close to the needed distance. Nice Video!
I did get disc set in Christmas gift from my son. The weather has has been awful since Christmas and I haven't tested my disces yet. After this film im consider only throwing forehand 😂
Ahhhh man I was serving the pizza all last year. Definitely no bueno - caused a shoulder injury. Didn't even think of the grip so that was super helpful. Thanks!
Really nice tutorial. Covered all the basic steps rather than assuming we know. Appreciate all the side views. That helps a lot! Would like to see a backhand roller tutorial in a similar format. How to adjust for different wind directions.😊
Used to play a lot but stopped for about 5 years. Used to throw forehand most of the time, but now trying I swear my shoulder fell right off. Excited to go see if my techniques got rusty and this might help!
It was a good demonstration ! Agreed it does come down to what works for each person.. I too do a little x step for fluid motion build up keeps me in line so to speak.
Love the video. I'm a baseball player and love the comparison to baseball pitchers. If you want to keep up the baseball refer nice. You're walk up is just like a baseball crow hop that outfielders will use or a shuffle from your infielders.
I've been throwing regularly for about 11 years now, and have always struggled with my forehand. Ive tried all of the grips, and i always seem to have pain in the top of my shoulder and the inside joint of my elbow. I just feel like i can't get it right, but i dont know what im doing wrong. I'll try some of these tips this year when the snow is finally gone. Thanks for the video

Very helpful instruction and tips! I would, as much as many say disc flight #’s aren’t that important… if when you suggest or indicate a specific disc you are using in any example throw that you share at least the turn and fade #’s… this would allow those getting some practice after your tutorial they can likely pull a similar flight disc from their bag as opposed to going out and thinking to purchase the disc you used in the video. Just saying… I for one would appreciate that effort. Thanks again for the solid training! 🙏💪🏼
Great content. Everyone makes fore handing a disc seem like it is some kind of voodoo magic, but it's really not. Question for me, being a dominate forehand player for 8 years now, how important is that plant foot being pointed straight? I'm able to get 300-325, but really accurate 275-300, and noticed my plant foot is not pointed straight at the target. Making sure I'm not missing out on something, or if that's just my form I've developed. Normal shot for me is either a flat or hyzer flip up shot. I really don't just crank on a over stable flex shot unless that's the shot needed.
For me, it feels more natural and comfortable to only put my index finger on the underside of the disc instead of stacking. Do you think I'm losing power and I should add the middle finger?
I naturally learned to stack my middle finger on top of the index finger (and can get about 400ft distance) but I've been dealing with joint pain in my index finger after only a few throws (that stays even after disc golf and takes a while to recover). Putting my index finger on top just doesn't seem as comfortable and I definitely loose distance (300 to 325 max) and though it doesn't hurt as much this way it still is irritating that index finger joint. What do you or other players do to strengthen their fingers and make them able to sustain these types of throws. I have had to throw with more of a fan/split grip technique for power throws for months (and I have trouble touching 300 with that grip) because it hurts to stack my fingers like you showed.
I just started to play disc golf, I really enjoy driving in a forehand style I have a decent distance but no control at all, I will try you tips tomorrow…. I am wondering if I should practice more my backhand throw (which I feel super uncomfortable doing) or if it’s viable to be a mostly forehand shooter Thanks for doing this !!
I enjoyed the video. I would enjoy it more if you would show a forward angle to your shot. It helps to see it from all angles. So I can emulate your form. I'm lucky to get 200 ft. Thanks for your time.
Great video. Please consider outlining the flight of the disc and showing us the different types of throws you covered with associated disc (ani/hyzer/over/under).
Hey there, I started playing discgolf recently and Im a big 6'8 (former bball player) guy and my hand is a bit bigger aswell :D do you have some suggestions regarding the grip to me? And also which driver would you suggest for me? I personally think that i have a better throws with heavier discs than with the lighter ones... Love from Slovakia!
That's fair, I wish he focused a bit more on footwork like you did here but as an intermediate that pushes just about 400 I found his mechanics really helpful. I also ended up switching to his pinch grip last year and found I get a more consistent clean release throwing especially with my deeper rimmed discs like my pig. Love your content though and the emphasis on accessibility!
For drivers I can't stop using just a 1 finger grip, and I can still get a max weight Start Beast close to 300 on a good skip and flight. I use two finger stacked for shots with Zones/Pigs, etc., but can't get it down with a driver.

Love forehand tip videos ... But I am not sure that aiming your front foot at the target is correct all the time... Depending on the stability of the disc and angle of release ... Example if I am forehanding a rive opposed to something Flippy like a mamba or something more neutral like a beast .. I would more agree that the foot is your aiming line to get to the target same as the elbow on a backhand ... It is rare to throw anything straight for more than 300 ft but we use a curve to get there ... Hope this makes sense I agree the foot and opposite arm elbow should be used as aiming your line to the basket but not lining up the toe directly towards the basket
I would say it's still the same footwork for understable discs except you will cant your torso over & lower your arm the same amount (ex: 10 degrees each) to allow for a hyzer-flip at speed.
@@RustySeatbelt hyzerflip ?? To flat or to turn over?? Point I am making is if your throwing a very over stable disc any real distance this will not work..
My step up is MASSIVELY different 😅 I point front toe to target back foot is perpendicular shoulder with apart. Then back leg comes forward behind front foot to cross step and build torque in the hips as I pull back and then just stepping forward to crank everything into it.
That casual 366 shot is 50 feet further than my best throws haha. Btw, I think you're on to something with your little skip step before the throw. We used a similar skip in martial arts before some pretty quick/powerful kicks. The same principle is at work; you generate some momentum with the skip, don't tangle your feet together, and wind up in a solidly planted position to explode with lots of power.
Best tip I can give. Distance and power takes time and consistency and a want for you to build it. Paul with a chop side arm. Nate throwing flat, Brodie throwing hyzer. Back hand, Matty O, that other dude who swings his arms back and forward I forget who it is. Anyways, as there is things that are universal. Like a lag, brace, coil, timing, nose down and being explosive. Do what feels smooth, and most comfortable. I used to rip forehands max power with beefy discs that I could smash. But after injury after injury I stepped down to more neural discs, slow down throw smooth and it went just as far but with half the power. Back hand it was until I slowed down and just threw without thinking, how it felt comfortable, just messing with planting, and throwing nose down. Is when it all clicked. Everything goes too fast when you think about every body part.
Love your content, I just wish you would enunciate the T's that are in the middle of words. "Impor-int" is a pet peeve of mine, like "mi-ins", "buh-ins", "ki-ins", etc. I deal, though, because I am a fan of the channel.
I’m a relatively new player, and I’m very forehand dominant. I’m wondering if I’m wrong to grip only with my index finger as it feels more natural as opposed to two? Could you recommend some beginner discs in each range for forehand dominant players?
I likes the video, but would have loved more rocka on the throw after the footplanting. The angle and follow through of the wrist during throw and arm placement. I felt it came a bit down to “and then you just throw” at the end.
Thanks for the video. The four step forehand, finishing with the left foot pointing at the target is solid form. I see you move your right leg behind the left on the third step (like a backhand step). That seems to work fine for you but is not common. Most forehand distance throwers either shuffle the third step or pass the right foot in front of the left; similar to a baseball outfielder who catches the ball and does a four step to rip the ball on a line to home base. BTW I'm searching for a video demonstrating 250+ distance and accuracy forehanding a Lat64 Fuse.
I started this year and forehand was intuitive but not that far. Then I learned backhand got an hour technique on the forehand and now it’s crap😂. Guess I have to go back thinking at throwing a ball
i disagree on angle being based off comfort to me it should be based off wind NOW if zero wind then sure its comfort but when is there zero wind etc. in a strong tailwind def an under stable disc on hyzer is best and into a headwind a stable to over stable thrown flat to slight anny is best for consistency.. if youre goal is consistency then id advise picking discs based off wind conditions first then distance to hole and then how much skip etc etc
My guy, how many times are you going to comment, finish your thoughts before you post them. You might disagree but these are things that helped him, they won't necessarily be helping you with your forehand. They are just based of his experiences.
LOTS of good things here in less than 7 minutes. Yes, it's the pad, not the side, of your middle finger. Yes, it can be (nearly) effortless. Yes, a little hop by your lead foot (left foot for righty throw). But IMHO-LOL😅, please don't enable one of THE biggest form flaws. Starting with an over-stable (or overly fast or heavy) disc and then throwing an anhi, with a 3/4 arm release, is one of the banes of the game. Instant death in the woods and a dead end for shot shaping. Sure, some older players, especially at higher elevations, may NEED to throw that way. Fair enough. But everybody who can should start throwing neutral discs with flat deliveries, at least until they master that basic skill. Thanks for posting.
I tore my left hamstring playing college basketball and at 41 now I have been playing some frisbee golf with my daughter and nephews as they have gotten older and its the only thing that hurts when I throw a darn frisbee lol I am just old I guess😂😂😂

@IceBerg TV well, if it is a geographical affection, I can't be mad. 😁
I’m a relatively new player, and I’m very forehand dominant. I’m wondering if I’m wrong to grip only with my index finger as it feels more natural as opposed to two?
Could you recommend some beginner discs in each range for forehand dominant players?
2 fingers is definitely better!!!! i would recommend a teebird, a firebird, a Berg and an RPM Kotuku
I likes the video, but would have loved more rocka on the throw after the footplanting. The angle and follow through of the wrist during throw and arm placement.
I felt it came a bit down to “and then you just throw” at the end.
I can't get my footwork down to save my life. great info here!
Yes please more forehand content and info in general
I dug this video. Thanks!
i disagree on angle being based off comfort to me it should be based off wind NOW if zero wind then sure its comfort but when is there zero wind etc. in a strong tailwind def an under stable disc on hyzer is best and into a headwind a stable to over stable thrown flat to slight anny is best for consistency.. if youre goal is consistency then id advise picking discs based off wind conditions first then distance to hole and then how much skip etc etc
My guy, how many times are you going to comment, finish your thoughts before you post them. You might disagree but these are things that helped him, they won't necessarily be helping you with your forehand. They are just based of his experiences.
Damit. I been serving pizza using side of my finger. I'm 98 percent BH because I can't throw FH. Will definitely practice this tomorrow
This is great, thank you very much
Thanks for the education video
What if I can't x step because of a disability?
Edward Norton’s brother? Cousin? Clone? Great video and nice channel great tips and advice.
I tore my left hamstring playing college basketball and at 41 now I have been playing some frisbee golf with my daughter and nephews as they have gotten older and its the only thing that hurts when I throw a darn frisbee lol I am just old I guess😂😂😂
What's your shirt all about? I'm a radio fanatic.
Got it at goodwill lol. Its cool though🥸
Excellent video. Thank you.
