  • In this video, I'll go over how I moisturize and separate my semi-freeform locs while also responding to one of your comments (from @vryman) on deciding to grow on UA-cam. There are definitely pros and cons to growing on UA-cam, and I've experienced a few of both. I love being on this platform and engaging with all of you so I'm interested to continue the conversation in the comments with your thoughts! #POPandCHAT

I've found out that @quotidianlight passed away in 2019. 🙁 I don't want to bring everybody down in the comments but for those of us who have been in the loc community since the early days of UA-cam, that's very shocking. I hope she has found peace. In the comments below, let me know who your favorite loc UA-camr "old or new" is/was! She was DEFINITELY one of my favorites and shaped how I experienced my hair.

What!? Quotidianlight passed away?! Omg...she was def one of my favorite Loc Tubers... Even after she shaved her locs I still followed her because she was just so amazing. Last I head she was writing a book and I was eagerly waiting its completion.. I..I'm shook. Rest Peacefully..

Wow. I’m 27 and I’ve been watching her since I was a teenager. Years before I had locs and even after I cut them off. She inspired me to have locs and to live free and travel. I’m glad you shared. Much love to her two kiddos and all who loved her. 💕
She had mentioned several times that she wanted to take breaks from social media and UA-cam, so I thought she was going on one of her many hiatuses. She touched the lives of so many. We undervalue the impact we can have on complete strangers in spaces like youtube. You do a special work Hallease!

Thank you! This video felt very messy but y'all seem to be enjoying it so I'll try and do them pretty consistently -- especially since my hair maintenance is so minimal there's only so many moisture routines I can do LOLOL

My favorite loc youtuber? 🤔 You, Daisy, and Joyce MD (I know she’s changed her name now) are my favorite of this generation. I’ve watched yours and Joyce even when you were doing loose hair videos.
I’m excited to see and support your 100k life this year. ✨

      @@hallease Issa whole story.
A while back there was a black female student caught on camara harrassing another white male student becuase he had dreadlocks. She berated him for appropriating her culture. I made video doing commentary on the whole thing and viewer thought my p.o.v. was interested and decided he was going to "help" me get more views by posting a link to some site (i legit dont remember which one) alleging that EYE as in Joyce was the girl cuaght on camera arrassing the white kid and I wanted a shance to share my side. The views and ocmments poured in and I was not ready. It really was messing with me so I had to take it down and even that didnt stop it bc then more viewers would just come and troll all my other videos. It was a mess.

Hey Hallease. I love the topic chat combined with the loc maintenance! Looking forward to this series. Also, I have a smaller channel of about 4,000, and I have this thought too. And honestly, I don’t think I care much about negative comments. I’ve have some higher viewed videos and faced negative comments and I’ve just been able to delete, block and keep it movin. My big fear is attracting weirdos and stalkers. I’ve already unfortunately attracted a few with my small audience and I’m just like “noooo!” You want to connect with people on a deep level, but you also want to keep those boundaries and your sense of safety and security. It can be harder the bigger you grow. Once again, love this style of video!

    • @hallease

Thankfully, I've never had anything too epic happen (nothing I couldn't just block and/or report very quickly). Pro-tip turning on the held for review feature and putting in every keyword associated with N*word has been VERY helpful.

Wow it's crazy how you don't palm roll or interlock all you do is separate your locs and it still has that cylinder shape to it. You're a proof that you don't have to have very big locs to semi freeform. Very beautiful💖

i truly think popularity for the sake of popularity requires one to like, sell their soul lowkey. and you have such a genuine one. so the climb to 100k will have some challenges. but if it's what you want, we support it!

Currently I haven't made any videos yet I wouldn't have made anyway, I'm mostly just trying to be better about consistency, thumbnails and titles. That alone has really helped

Pop n Chat. I'm into it. Great video. Love the casual style. I had to talk myself out of locking my hair after this video. You make it look so easy. Also, I feel like 100K subbies will happen sooner than you think. Once you have a strategy and you are intentional about growth you should get there pretty quickly. There are more than 100k subbies out there for you, they just need to find you.

My first set of locs I started in 2006. I had them for 12 years before cutting them and starting this new set 30 minutes later. Back then, around year 4 or 5 I started watching youtube videos. Some of my favorite loc youtubers were:

    MsIslandSpice
The Bronze Goddess (now Life Coach Shawn)
    JazzyTe (now Jasmine Rose)

Does the approval rating affect all the UA-cam algorithm stuff, or is it a "vanity metric" to use a horrible phrase?

    • @hallease
      @hallease  4 роки тому +3

It does help overall as a metric to help the algorithm know, "yes by suggesting this video and the viewer liking it -- it has correctly presented content you would WANT to see to you" that's why we all say to like our videos
