Almost 1 year loc'd and I never washed my hair twice. I also don't struggle with build up (and I hope I never do). Facts on the rinsing tho!!! Thanks for the info and delivering great quality videos. Sending much love 👸🏽
I'm a loose natural and I wholeheartedly agree about Dr. Bronners. Had to leave it alone after using it twice and equating it to the build up. I can only imagine the buildup in locs and braids for others.
I know they tell you all the time, but your voice girl. Your videos are so relaxing lol. Will we get a video for conditioning or the after shower process too?
I just adore you. I love watching your videos. You're your own person, but you also remind me of JoyceMD. I watched her videos like they were a series. This is how I watch yours. They are very informative. No rambling. You make sure to really hone in on the main points and your information is always based in "facts." So, thank you for taking the time to do this. It is well appreciated.
Another tip for rinsing if you don't have a removable shower head, bend forward and tip your hair over to get the back locs. I saw NatLocs do this and it has been a game changer for me. 🤗
I use to 2x shampoos: one for clarifying and one for moisturizing. Also if my hair is extra dirty: I’ll use s pre- shampoo like dr. Locs to break up the dirt then shampoo 2x. I agree rinse enough to by making sure water is clear. Do hot oil tx 1x or 2x a month for shine and extra moisture
I immediately subscribed your page for two reasons. 1. You're so laidback and clear. 2.(IMPORTANT) Perfect closed captions. #DeafFriendlyChannel Most Loc channels come with no or crappy closed captions which I refuse to follow. How else am I supposed to understand what you're saying? Anyways, thank you for the closed captions! ❤️
I love Avalon Organics for the same reasons. Lemon and the Rosemary & Lavender ones are great too. I can't use Dr Bronners either. I don't understand the hype. First time i used it - it left a buildup and i was like - nope!
These are great tips. The applicator bottle is 🔑 to get shampoo in all the nooks and crannies! I do use African Black soap for my 2nd or 3rd lather, but I dissolve it in water first so it's very diluted. That Neutrogena soap is SO good. That's my go-to 1st lather soap.
I love how you address the residue topic, I’m Caucasian/Greek so my hair is a wavy and thick mix so it’s not as dense but love your videos and advice!!!!
Thank you I tried separating some of my hair yesterday and in between there was a lot of sebum and buildup. I wash my hair with Free The Roots shampoo every week and moisturize it everyday and night and still have buildup. This helped a lot
Interesting! I personally don't like using the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo because I can't get the fragrance out of my hair so I assumed that if my hair still smells like the shampoo, then there must be something left behind.
Hey dear sister ahsante sana for such a useful information regarding the washing up of dreadlocks, and here I am, thinking to myself that there is nothing new to learn about washing dreadlocks but oh lord! I am truly am grateful for the information and I will be definitely be applying this here new way of washing. Keep up the good work and wishing you and yours all the best in life
Thank you so much I will be doing this for my hair. I don't have all natural hair like you but I do have a lot of curly hair that is just a pain to get clean well. This is one of the best guides I've seen so far. Thank you!
Good video! If I washed my hair with soap twice a week my hair would be dry and on the floor. Rinsing long enough is a HUGE deal. I bought a shower mirror for this reason
Great tips! I need a water 💦 filter for my shower 🚿 didn’t know you could get this will investigate! 👍🏾👌🏾 Also don’t you find washing your Locs so often drying? 🤔 Love your Locs and your calm soothing voice thanks for sharing. 💕😊
This video is amazing!! Thank you soo much for the tips. I am almost 1 week into my FreeForm journey. Do you have any tips for do's and don't of washing your hair during the beginning stages of freeform locs? Thanks in Advance
Ughhhhh, ive been doing everything you said exactly my whole loc journey but i have dust trapped in my hair from dust at my workplace 😭 im never going to work without my hair covered ever again, if you work in tight spaces that are dusty… cover your shit!
Would you reccomend the Avalon lemon shampoo or the neutrogena for loose natural hair? I am looking for a good clarifying shampoo to use once a month. I tend to use a lot of products when styling. Would it be too harsh?
I think on loose natural hair it’ll be too much. I’ve only used it twice now over the course of a few months because it really is meant to remove build up from your hair. If you’re wanting something extra to get build up off try the Avalon first. I think even that would be a bit harsh too though. Be ready to follow up with your best conditioner
Great video with great tips! I wash my locs in 4 sections and I always dilute my shampoo w/water in a spray bottle or applicator bottle. How do you feel about adding baking soda to your shampoo or just washing your locs with baking soda only for a deep clean?
I tried that on my first set with mixed feelings. I think if you want to just use baking soda then you need to have some type of sink/bucket situation so your locs can soak in the mixture.
Great info/tips! I realized at my last loc wash that I'm doing it all wrong. Still on the hunt for the perfect shampoo, still want to try the black soap tho.
*stops using black soap as shampoo* Lol! But I did have a suspicion about it because lately my hair has been looking a bit dull despite me not using products outside of shampoo.
Back with another question lol: One of my locs at the nape of my neck have thinned out and im wondering if tying a knot in it would be a good idea. I have never seen the long term effects of doing so and also dont know what it actually does. What are your thoughts on this? (If u would like to further understand my hair briefly to give the best answer; my hair grows out of the locs so I cannot wait longer then 3-4 months to interlock, and now that I have gone 4 months without a retwist, doing it more frequently such as every month makes them thinner since there is less new growth to get thicker) Not really sure what i should do. I have 80 locs and i really prefer them thick, which was kinda the point in only having 80 lmao
dang, ive been doing it all wrong! Sucks that i currently live in a dormitory so waterfilters are impossible. According to your boil test, this water is very hard.... not too sure what to do. Im fighting buildup and thought it was that i was using too much shampoo, but im not getting lather due to hard water + too little shampoo. Anyone have some tips?
But question aside from this video: My locs are a year in and I try to twist every 4 months maybe more if I can go longer. Most of the hair grows on my scalp rather then in the loc like yours does, is this maybe cuz my locs are newer and shorter?
I don't have locs I'm just here for Hallease
Jhnell P. Same.
Aww that's so nice of you. I do feel like she's the kind of person that people want to be there for😍
I did exactly what you said and my hair feels AMAZING!! I don't think I was rinsing long enough.
Yay!
Your videos and your voice is like ASMR.
Almost 1 year loc'd and I never washed my hair twice. I also don't struggle with build up (and I hope I never do). Facts on the rinsing tho!!! Thanks for the info and delivering great quality videos. Sending much love 👸🏽
I definitely haven’t been washing my hair properly.😂😂 thank you so much for this vid

I got a set of 15 month old free form locs and man that Avalon organic lemon clarifying shampoo is legit! Good video and helpful tips
I'm just starting my loc journey and I'm scared to wash and retwist my hair by myself. These videos are very inspirational.
The water filter tip is so real! I’ve seen an amazing difference once I installed my shower filter. Amazing video as always 💗
Great info and loving the documentary style video 🎥
Omg thank you for noticing

Hello!! I'm so glad they're helpful for you. I try to have them out concurrently when the video is released or within 24 hours after.
You are a great woman...who knows how to explain each step of how to wash locs... I am very greatful... Thank you so much
I.was.not.ready.for.that.intro! Had to rewind it to watch it again. Very cool!

Great tips Hallease! And your locs look amazing.
You're videos are really helping me solidify my routine! Thank you!

Your locs are gorgeous .
Wow!! Your hair is beautiful. Im also kinder semi-freeforming, a year and a month in. I'm always inspired. x
My hair is around the same length as yours & You helped me thanks
Love the new intro Hallease
Just started my locs journey.. thx for the tips
Good video! If I washed my hair with soap twice a week my hair would be dry and on the floor. Rinsing long enough is a HUGE deal. I bought a shower mirror for this reason
This was super helpful. I had white residue in my locs from shampoo, now I know why & how to avoid it in the future.
New subbie! Really great information and I love your voice! Tone and texture wonderful!
Thanks for sharing these awesome tips. I'm newly loc'd and I'm definitely going to follow these tips.
Your voice is so soothing!!💕 You have beautiful locs too. Great tips and info.
Great tips! I need a water 💦 filter for my shower 🚿 didn’t know you could get this will investigate! 👍🏾👌🏾
Also don’t you find washing your Locs so often drying? 🤔
Love your Locs and your calm soothing voice thanks for sharing. 💕😊

Love your help,ty.do you use Avalon conditioner, with part water ,since hair is fully loc?im 1yr loc.ty for info.new subbie😉
Wow awesome video very informative
Great Video, where did you purchase the nozzle bottle the shampoo is in?
It’s the nozzle from a hair dye bottle. I literally bought the dye just so I could take the nozzle off
They sell those bottles at your local beauty supply store.
Also, I use a shower head with a high pressure setting too ;)
This video is amazing!! Thank you soo much for the tips. I am almost 1 week into my FreeForm journey. Do you have any tips for do's and don't of washing your hair during the beginning stages of freeform locs? Thanks in Advance
Not really because I’ve always semi-freeformed and when I did tighten I interlocked so I could wash my locs early on without fear of them unraveling.
Can I tell you how I am loving the new intro!! Also the leather chair in the background where is it from?
No idea, it’s in the office where I work.
Ughhhhh, ive been doing everything you said exactly my whole loc journey but i have dust trapped in my hair from dust at my workplace 😭 im never going to work without my hair covered ever again, if you work in tight spaces that are dusty… cover your shit!
👀😭

Kristell Stone I’ve uses the neutrogena shampoo on my loose natural hair and my hair was dryer than the desert! Would not recommend at ALL!

Hallease Thank you, I will keep that in mind😀
SimplyLeasey thank you, I will definitely skip it lol
That nozzle tip bottle is nice! Where did you get it?
Great video with great tips! I wash my locs in 4 sections and I always dilute my shampoo w/water in a spray bottle or applicator bottle. How do you feel about adding baking soda to your shampoo or just washing your locs with baking soda only for a deep clean?

Nice video! I´m subscribing. What size locs would you say you have?
Varying sizes. Welcome!
I love your content! Would you do a video on how your tie your head scarfs/turbans? ✨
Already did, search headwraps on the channel
Great info/tips! I realized at my last loc wash that I'm doing it all wrong. Still on the hunt for the perfect shampoo, still want to try the black soap tho.
Great video
What do you think of Head and Shoulders as a clarifying shampoo?
I need to update y'all because head and shoulders is what I use now 😅
I use a shampoo that helps my itchy scalp. It's definitely not see through maybe I should end w/a clarifying shampoo
How often do you retwist? I'm only 3 months in and have decided to freeform/semi freeform As well. And your locks have become my standard lol
I don't retwist at all, I just separate
Do you use conditioner at all?
Thank you so much for these tips they will be put into use but my water bill is going to be on fire 😭😭😭🖤🖤🖤🙌🏿🙌🏿💯
🫠
I usually never see the products that youtubers talk about up here in Canada, but I saw your avalon organics shampoo and picked it up. I'm curious 😂
Yay, give it a try. Let me know what you think
I section my hair the same when washing.
*stops using black soap as shampoo*
Lol! But I did have a suspicion about it because lately my hair has been looking a bit dull despite me not using products outside of shampoo.
It’s Shea butter based. Unless your water is rowdy amazing it’s leaving a residue

Dang this is a good question, I’ll try to make a video about it soon!
Tysm
Do you dye your locs?
how many locs do you have hallease?
I started with 200 but it’s probably closer to 160 by now
Some shampoo, max,with, water 💧
dang, ive been doing it all wrong!
The Best shampoo is called knotty Dread shampoo
Yep. 😍
Freeform
Ayye! I didnt know you were from 210, that's what sup
Use shampoo call KNatty Dread shampoo
❤️❤️❤️
But question aside from this video: My locs are a year in and I try to twist every 4 months maybe more if I can go longer. Most of the hair grows on my scalp rather then in the loc like yours does, is this maybe cuz my locs are newer and shorter?
Sounds like your locs are pretty young, so yes it could be just a phase they’re going through
So, that's why my African Black soap stopped lathering. Thought it was expired or something, oops
You are doing to,much, just, wash your locs 2,time
But your hair looks dull
Great VIDEO
