the strips I have are so weak when I insert them in the top the getting all discombobulated and don't do anything

It's a no for me. That button didn't match the shirt's button. What a shame!

From this demonstration you can use your own buttons plus I'd use the clear fastener(s).

Does not work at all on jeans , waste of money. Looks like it will work on very very thin fabric only.
