  • While we've been in Paris at our amazing Airbnb we caught up with Shay again, and did this shoot for the cool online mag Livefast (link below). Peter's bedroom had some awesome natural light and was so beautiful, so he just used what we had for these shots - as he always says you don't need a huge studio to take great photos!

    nice shoot. Shay nailed it for melancholy for sure.
    remember 'back in the day' when zooms were sketchy at best? film zooms f3.5-6.3 or some such nonsense on a similar range (or shorter 35-70 maybe) amount of zoom. carried 5 primes in my PJ and Air Force days.
    looks really good. i need to learn some Ps to go with my LrC
    if i do any cropping, i leave it the 2x3 (standard 35mm?) format unless im playing around to make it look more vintage and then i go 4x5 to mimic my Crown Graphic...

    Many thanks for this new video. I cannot resist the temptation of doing once again apology of the mirrors. Mirrors are “portals” to other realities; I say it in plural because I think there is not one but many of them. My point of view is that with photography one of the three dimensions is lost so there must be something that replaces it, and there are multiple ways to do it. Mirrors, doors, windows, frames, … all of them are the same; they are meant to capture your gaze, they are constantly telling you: come here, enter, and I will show you what you are looking for… then you forget about the lost (3rd) dimension.
    @Bec: Many thanks for recording this session; the mirror effect works in your favor; you know very well why. BTW: with the video camera you have caught the Model smiling; this is what I meant about “other realities”. As I mentioned in other post, I believe you made a lot of efforts in choosing a place like that. I have never valued gold jewelry, and this hasn’t changed, I have always preferred silver. But I can't resist the warmth of the golden colors.
    @Shay: Many thanks for posing in this session. I am fully aware this video is not about dressing, but please let me say that I like a lot the way you dress or the way you don't dress, depends on the point of view (I prefer the latter). Those stockings are irresistible, because they reveal your skin; every line and outline in your body is meant to be followed by the gaze. All this with great respect.
    @Peter: I read that fixed lenses are better that variable lenses because they have more specialized technology for specific focal lengths. My experience so far has been only with a zoom lens that I think are more appropriate for situations where, for example: a) I don't have the luxury of choosing the location where I am situated or the location of the object I want to photograph, b) the time is short, I either take the photography immediately or I lose the opportunity because there are people around, the sunlight changes, the location is dangerous... And think fixed lenses more appropriate for a) stable environments where you have more control of the situation; you chose the better spot for you and for the object to photography, b) you can properly take care of the multiple lenses to protect them …. But this is just my point of view, and I could be wrong. Now, one of my goals for the medium term is to find the better combination between fixed and zoom lenses.
    @Peter: Many thanks for mentioning the exposure parameters, including the max and min acceptable speed and ISO values, based on your experience.

    I’ve always enjoyed your style of photography, I look up to you as a mentor on how to get into portrait photography I’ve been doing photography since the beginning of 2023 and building my skills and I want to go into your style of photography I’ve started off doing street photography mixing styles but now I want to try something new and different more slow paced. Hopefully one day you can give us a story time on how you started your career very interested on how you got to where you are now today.

    Very nice photography, Peter. I don't use photoshop a lot as I do whatever I want in LR and Nik Collection, but the new AI tool in LR for removing small unwanted objects is surprisingly good. Much slower than the healing brush or the repair tool but not too bad on my 2015 iMac.

    Do you find that AirBnB's in Europe are a bit more easy going in their pricing? I know here in the states there is a huge issue with either corporations buying/leasing housing and then charging an arm and a leg, to the point they cost as much or more than a nice hotel. Or you just have greedy independent owners that will charge a $200 per day cleaning fee, then ask you to do most the cleaning, and again the cost becomes as much or more than a nice hotel where all of that is included.

    • @PeterCoulsonPhotographer
      @PeterCoulsonPhotographer  Місяць тому +3

      yes Airbnb's are now too expensive but 1 room hotels can be boring

      It varies. You can find some absolute gems in Europe. I've had entire 3 or 4 bed homes with beautiful decor for less than more popular apartments cost.

      @@PeterCoulsonPhotographer I have stepped away from thinking shooting models is ever going to earn any money (unless you are like the top 5 photographer in the world). There is nobody out there anymore that pays a photographer for shooting models. The only types of photography that earns money is family, couples, kids and such. There is clients. The model photography they just get it all done for free by someone.
