@@chicagohandyman Downtown Subaru of Nashville. I referenced the Subaru Bulletin that I found online that extended the warranty of the EPB harness and that it is a known issue.
**UPDATE** While the repair in the video has been holding up great, I just got notified by Subaru that the harness has been given an extended warranty. This means that Subaru will repair this free. I will definitely head to the dealership soon.
Hey i got to admit this video worked after i changed the brakes on my subi 2015 legacy i had the same problem. Although i recommend you check both rear tires because one of them was connected and the other was not. Im no mechanic. so i didnt know there was one on each other side. So make sure you check both sides! Thanks for the help! Saved me some 💰
Wife is 700 miles from home last night, 9pm at night, 46 degrees and light rain. I sent her this video and by 10pm she crawled under the car, found the same issue & made this repair. She is not mechanical. Anyone can do this! THANK YOU.
My wife was stuck last night - AAA wouldn’t flat bed the car because wheels were locked - sent him this video and he fixed it. He said, “Yo, UA-cam is the BOMB!”
Thank you very much for the video. The same thing happened to me and watching your video helped me out greatly. That light was driveing me nuts. Thanks again.
Thank you sooooo much for this video!!!!!!! Just had brake pads replaced and the same problem happened. I got under the Outback and sure enough, the cable was unhooked. Luckily it went back in. Thanks again
What if it is not blinking but solid? I accidentally broke that connector piece while working on something else. I put a zip tie on it then. Months later not the light came on. I'm having the parking brake issue but I checked it and it is still connected. I'm going to replace the zip tie and see if that fixes it.
Great video. I did brakes on a 2017 Subaru didn't know what I did wrong. This same warning ⚠️ showed up. I remembered I did disconnect it from one side but plugged back in. After your video, I checked it. It's was off, and it was hard to plug it back in. Thanks, though.
I have a brake and park light on. E brake is engaged but won’t disengage. The switch light is also not working like in this video but those plugs as shown are connected and latched properly
How long would you expect this fix to last? It’s obviously not a long term solution but it is for a 2016 Legacy - our son’s car who is away at college. Is it confirmed Subaru has extended the warranty for this part?
You’d have to check if your vehicle is covered under the warranty. My dealership said that Subaru is paying out for the defective part. But not for the other parts and labor needed for the repair. I said no to their price of $470. My zip ties have been holding up just fine. Going on 1.5 years.
I just had this error on my 2013 Subaru Legacy with close to 150,000 miles. Unfortunately, it locked the car in place in a parking lot. I had to get a OCBD II device to override the computer and unlock the parking brake to move the car (called a tow truck to bring me one). Once I got the car moving, the connector was fine (unlike this one). In my case, the OCBD codes showed a complete electrical failure of the harness which made the car lock up where it was. So I had to buy the part from Subaru as my car is not covered by an extended warranty, and the harness and switch is $149. This is going to be too much for my skill so it will take about 2 hrs to install and about $350 to $400 to fix. Considering how few problems the car has had it is worth it to get it moving again.
Yes, that part is unfortunately not covered under the extended warranty. It is definitely a more involved repair. I would’ve had the dealership do the fix too. Thanks for sharing your story!
@@chicagohandyman Thanks, actually this is an independent mechanic I truly trust as he has kept my last two cars running as long as I want to maintain them. My last car, a 2006 Saab 9-3 I sold in 2018 after nearly 200,000 and now the second owner has 270,000 on it. Original powertrain. Hope the Subaru can do the same.
thanks for the video,,i was going crazy and ready to go super crazy,,,the wire tie is good,,but if you slip one wire tie in the hole of the plug this will act as a wedge,,,
Can confirm as of today that Subaru fixed this repair free of cost. Thank you for your very helpful information.
Where is your dealership? Mine said yes Subaru will warranty it but they need another $400 from me to repair it.

Thank you so much. This did the trick and saved me countless hours and dollars at the shop. Another You-Tube sponsored miracle!
You’re welcome!
Unbelievable!!!! 2015 Legacy, 124,000 with the same problem!!! Thanks so much for the fix!!!!
My wife is slated to pay $170 for a diagnostic test tomorrow morning, and if this works we’ll save that $. Thank you much appreciated!
Hope it solves the issue!

Amazing. Thanks for the great video on this simple fix. Saved me from wasting my time on another visit to the mechanic.
You’re welcome!
Those connectors can be replaced DIY also. The service manual details how to replace the connector on the harness.
Oh nice. Where can I find the replacement plug. Do you have a part number?

Thanks worked for me too, what a simple fix.
Thanks for the very simple, informative video. I cancelled by appointment with the service department due to this easy fix you shared with us.
Nice!
What model year Outback have parking brakes like this? Thanks
Mine is a 2015.
Grear video, thanks! Not sure if this is the cause if my problem, but now I know something to go out and check!
Let us know how it goes!
Hi, a good idea would be to secure the connector on drivers side BEFORE it too fails....
Oh that’s a good tip!

Do you have a video to replace the EPB wiring harness?
No, I’m still using this “fix” still.
Thank you so much, it worked. Where do I buy new a clip. Auto store can't order any
It’s a dealership part.
Hi I have 2019 forester
And have same issue
But check both plugs and they were in
Any clue ?
Anyone ?
Having same issues on 2019. Did you find your fix?
dam man thank you so much for this video
You’re welcome!
thanks to who ever invented the zip tie
Bug ups to Mr zip tie.
thanks a bunch! worked like a charm.
Glad it helped!
How do this on subaru outback 2010 ?
Same question😊😂
Thank you for that
Did it work for you?
Can I drive with this problem until I can get it fixed?
Yes. You just won’t be able to engage your ebrake. Also, you can potentially damage the cable if it rubs against the wheel or ground.
SMH EASIEST FIX I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS 😅
Hope it helped!
Likely the actuator
Did you watch the video? In this case, it was literally the plug. In fact, Subaru has issued a service bulletin for this harness.
Once the cap is removed, turn it CLOCKWISE! Dude forgot to mention which way to turn
Ran out of 🦆 tape 😮

Great tip, I’ll have to try it out!
