i took a chance on a 2003 solara v6 sle for $1000. It has 95000 miles and a flashing check engine light misfire. turns out one coil had corrosion where wire connects. cleaned it with steel wool and car runs like great now. been driving it a year now. great buy!
Gotta love the easy fixes. Good score!
You could easily put 200,000+ on it, 95,000 miles is just warming up.
@@ericscottstevens My 99 has 482,000
136k? that Lara is still a baby , I have the 2003 3.0 V6 Solara with 205k still running like a champ . Love the car.
Yeah, Toyota definitely has their game together when it comes to reliability and longevity - Scotty Kilmer would agree too!!!
I have a 99 Solaro. It just needed a timing belt , alternater and a water pump. It runs great.
Very reliable for sure!
20000 Toyota SOLARA 218000+ miles just got done scraping due to rust and time belt let go
i have 99 se, no misfire code but it had it-replaced all 3 packs. it still has evap codes due to it running test spiratically even while running-ecu 5hr timer fubar.205k miles and still runs great!
Evap codes are tough to troubleshoot. A smoke machine helps out a lot.
Have an 04 with 145k miles. Runs great. Had miss in cyl 2 and 5. Didn’t feel it. One coil pack feeds two plugs. Changed and code went away. Can beat Toyota quality. Computer compensates for the miss
Yes, they are certainly made very well.
We always need more projects.
Yep, projects are good for the soul.
Try relay first. Sounds like after that relay warms up is why it's working after trying for a while
I have a 2004 solara coupe 2.4 liter and I love it it has 169,000 miles on it had to replace battery starter and alternator 60 days after I purchased it... from a family member that drove it during last 2 years of high school at graduation daddy bought her a brand new car and instead of trading in for nothing sold it to me for what they paid for it 2 years prior needless say the up keep was the child’s responsibility to continue to drive ... with that being said she purchased the cheapest she could find but the battery wasn’t large enough so it destroyed the alternator and starter🤣 I just replaced the struts and springs and sway bar links in rear and funny now the front is acting crazy struts aren’t bad but sway bar links are ... I wanna keep it so hopefully I’ll learn a thing or 2 from you to make my life easier... I didn’t know how to pin point the starter issue but I do now thank you .
AWESOME!! Glad you found my videos helpful. I'll have a lot more on my Solara coming up. Thanks for commenting!!!
How tonknow if is the starter or alrernator??
Fantastic job
Thanks!
My 99 Solara has 482,000 miles and counting!
Them Toyotas are indestructable!
Quiet as a mouse- just sit until you figure out that the cat is a meteorite.
Let's hope it isn't a meteorite.
Answer: I was hoping to see an answer to the car dyeing after start. I first thought it was the IAC. Some will tap on the suspected relay while the car is running to diagnose the relay. I hope you find the answer and I hope you show the answer.
I will absolutely show the fix...when I find it. I thought IAC too, bit the ECM is turning off the C/OPN relay just after startup, which stops the fuel pump, that's the actual problem. I replaced the ECU, same problem. The search continues, stay tuned.
Alternator may be not delivering power or efficient power check to see if the battery is being charged I suppose.
Check out parts 2 and 3, it was a crazy problem, but we figured it out, accidentally, lol!
I have a 2000 solara v6 manual 5spd that sat for 7yrs that I'm working on
I think I have mine narrowed down to an ECU issue.
@@ProjectTimeGarage I think you should be able to find one cheap and make a nice profit. Mine had brake issues from sitting for so long. Had to replace all calipers and rotors, starter, alternator and I'm still not done lol. I'm surprised that it started with the stale fuel and it idles nicely

I have a 2002, 2.4L Solara that does the turning off after starting, every time I disconnect the battery. I have to drive a bit before the computer will reset.
Good info!
Its a Toyota. My misfire on my 2000 was a dirty plug. Got it at a steal with 140k on the clock.
Just scrapped my 2000 Toyota SOLARA. 218,000+
Time belt let go
Hello. How do you change the light bulbs on the tail/ spoiler ?
On the bottom of the light, there is a screw on each side to remove the lens assembly.
@@ProjectTimeGarage ok thanks.
Love my 99 Solara! But for Pete’s sake! Before buying sensors and what not. Verify if it’s California or Federal emissions and buy the correct corresponding part! 😂
Yes, I'm right there with you!. Not very often you buy a car that has all the parts to fix it sitting in the trunk. I consider a win.
It’s a Toyota man things are GOATS
Yeah, they're tough as nails.
Going to chec out an 02 solara...what should I look for in your opinion?
They're really pretty reliable. The big thing is the VVT cam phaser that gets loose and makes a rattling noise when you rev it up lightly. Otherwise, it just common wear stuff to look for, tires, fluids, etc. I always look under the seats to see how filthy it is. People generally don't clean well under there and it gives you an idea of how tidy the previous owner was. Generally speaking, filthy cars have filthy maintenance habits too.

@@ridwanafolabi2720 Thanks! Welcome aboard!!!
was the intermittent start fix?? what was the issue?
Man, I wish I knew. It still has the problem. The ECU is sending an intermittent ground pulse to the Circuit Opening Relay. The signal is intermittent as measured directly from the ECU connector itself. I did swap the ECU since they're cheap and easy but same result. Evidently there is another input somewhere that the ECU is interpreting intermittently. I can bypass the Circuit Opening Relay and it runs perfectly.
The ole 4 cylinder, not really one of Toyota's best decision for that line of Camry.
That stall out sounds like gummy air intake valve. I have had the issue then cleaned it out. If this were a V6 with 136k you have a gem.
I have a 2002 3.0 V6 SE Solara with 245k and no huge issues yet.
Yeah, IAC valve was where my journey started. Then I figured out that the ECU was physically turning off the fuel pump just after startup. Crazy stuff.
Thinking about purchasing a 2002 Toyota solara with 150,000 miles v6 .. are they good reliable cars .. I need advice ?!
Yes they are!
Timing belt change and water pump. Other than that it's a really reliable car
Hey bud, I need your opinion, 03 solara non convertible v6 automatic transmission they want 4800 for it it's got 128000 miles . What's a good offer great shape, runs good
Mileage is good, if it's in good shape I'd offer 4k or so. Of course I haven't seen it and there are a LOT of factors in determining a cars value. Tires, records, service history, etc. Just to name a few.
Thanks man your awesome I love your videos, wish you luck and success I'll let you know what happens
@@troythomasseejr6078 thanks!
I’m looking at a 2006 version but I’m scared came here to look for some clues bc he’ said it has a bad engin
If you're not mechanically inclined, be very careful. If you are mechanically inclined, you can do a pretty broad overall diagnosis on the spot.
Just bought one of these for 400 dollars from my brother in law it's at 198,000 sle v6 year 2000 it's got check engine light for a misfire on cylinder 5 my mechanic is coming by tomorrow to try and fix hopefully he can fix it
That V6 is a great engine. Too bad mine doesn't have it.
Aloha alternator fuse can be changed?
Not sure
Yes it can I did it on my 2008 solora it may blow some replaceable fuses
I’m really interested in seeing why it stalls out. It did it every time the engine temp was low. Computer? Can’t wait
Yep, it's a mystery for sure. One thing that's notable, it starts perfectly every single morning right now. Almost certain I'm dealing with one of the three relays in the circuit.
That music is way better than the 70's porn music from the last video! 😎
Next time....Polka!!!
