Thanks man, I really appreciate guys like u, that help us newbies/ advanced guys who want to cut out all the B.S and get to the important job making of music! It helps a lot, very few people can take advanced technicals details and teach/explain it, put it forward in a very simple way.

I Have Question About MIDI Setup. IS there any setting in main stage to select particular Midi Device Or Midi Channel. If I have 2 Midi Device Connected To macbook and i want only 1 particuler device in main stage? how we select that ??

A MIDI device will only be used inside of MainStage if it’s assigned to something in layout mode. If you don’t assign it to anything, and also make sure none of the MIDI ports are set to “all” in layout mode, then MainStage won’t listen to any MIDI inputs from that device.

    Hi!
I have a question regarding mainstage. My band is getting ready to do some shows and plan to use mainstage for the keyboard parts.
We are really beginners when it comes to this… So please explain like we’re 3 years old ;)
we started today to add patches for each song in the setlist. Now we wonder, for example if one song has organ and strings in the riff and we created layers with both organ and strings to play at the same time, but in the verse it should only be organ. Is it possible to assign let’s say a pad on the keyboard that will ”mute” the strings when pressing it to play the verse with just the organ sounding and then hit the pad again for unmute when the chorus come in? Or must we use 2 keyboards? We only planned on using a 37 keys keyboard so it’s not optimal to split it.
if you have any easy and cool ideas please let us know! We’re a duo so the keyboard will be played by a hired musician, But we want to get the setup ready to save him the time…
looking forward to hear from you…and remember we’re dummies
    kind regards
    jojje/Introspektivet

      Hello!
You can assign a button in Layout mode and map it to a hardware button on your MIDI controller that mutes a specific channel strip when you press it.

If I download mainstage in one laptop and then buy a 2nd more powerful do I have to buy the program again for the new laptop install?

If you use the same Apple ID on the new computer then you don’t need to buy it again. Your purchases are attached to your Apple ID.

James. I enjoyed your video and have been through my preferences and set them as you advised. I have an issue I am having problems sorting out and wondered if you could help. I have a Kurzweil PC4 linked to MainStage on my MacBook. I have set up four different sounds in a patch list just to check I can get it to work and l linked the "Next" button on my PC4 to a button on the MainStage Screen and assigned it so that I can move down the patches in order. I am getting a midi signal so I know the laptop is receiving an instruction from the PC4. Unfortunately when I press the "Next" button on my PC4 it does not move down one patch at a time but jumps straight down to patch 4 then as I press it again it works back up the list to patch 3 then 2 then 1. The next time I press it, it jumps from patch 1 straight to patch 4 again. I have tried resetting the programme numbers. I have also tried with and without the Program button ticked in the attributes tab. Do you know what might be wrong and how I can fix it so that the "Next" button will allow me to move down the patches one at a time? Thanks. David

      Hey David!
Glad you enjoyed the video! It seems like you have the button set up to go to your previous patch instead of the next patch. I would go to the concert level (The highest patch with the MainStage logo) and click the button you created and check that the mapping is for the "next patch" and not for the "previous patch"

Actually, I think the title is very accurate -- you absolutely should not use MainStage before properly setting preferences.

You explain things from the middle out! Not from the beginning! You assume we understand the paradigm of the application! VERY FRUSTRATING!

      I'm sorry about the frustration.
We have many other videos that cover different topics regarding MainStage. Have you had a chance to watch those?
Is there a topic that you'd like us to cover more in depth?
