Audio Tips: Dynamic Vs Condenser Microphones
I've worked with the TF Series, and honestly found it too difficult to find things that should be more accessible in my opinion. The Behringer X32 has much more functionality for me (if we're talking high school band programs; I'd prefer A&H in a more serious setting like DCI). But you're right; for a band director with little audio knowledge the Yamaha TF Series is probably the way to go. However, if they plan on hiring an audio technician for the season, I think something a bit beefier is more appropriate.
I definitely agree, if there is a full time audio staff member then you should aim for at least an X32 or an SQ5. The price on the X32 rack recently dropped a lot so it’s an even better deal!
SO clear and helpful, thank you! 👏
The TF doesn't have delay on most inputs but it does have delay on the stereo inputs, either from the RCA sockets or from the USB input. The most common reason for using delay on an audio input is to make it sync with video and the stereo inputs are perfect for this. The TF3 has a maximum of 40 mono input channels when using TIO stage boxes, not 32. There are also two pairs of stereo input channels on all the TFs.
iPad cheapest can do the splitter with a Logic iOS subscription. Mac Mini m4 upgrade = 2.5 years of Moises subscription, Newer Apple silicon devices run Logic 11 with free splitter, mastering, mucho many many many mid tier plugins- use Mini like a powerful outboard processing box; if you already have Logic add a base Native Instruments suite- more software than you need; it’s Talent time then…
They are not
Very clear tenx bro
Hey James, could you expand on what you meant by Dante being compatible with Yamaha dzr speakers? The school I teach has some but I’ve never seen an Ethernet port on the back of them
There are DZR speakers with Dante and without. The ones with Dante are a bit more expensive.
Yes DZR has 2 models
Great vid!
I was following the steps to import Mainstage with Musescore, and all went smoothly until the staff text. When I was attempted to right click and proceed to Midi actions, Midi actions didn’t seem to exist. The only tab that was present was“swing-settings.” I tried to see if there was a different location/work around and I could not find any. If you have any information to help with this matter, I would greatly appritiate it. Also I was using Musescore 4.4.3
This video was made using MuseScore 3. If you're using MuseScore 4 there is a good chance that this method won't work anymore.
Hello, thanks for the interesting post. There is also a plug-in for MainStage with which a video can be played along with playbacks in a playlist (with a projector) and MIDI data can be output for control (e.g. light dimmers, effects devices). I found when writing suspended cymbal rolls in Musescore with the new VDL sounds, if you click the sound flag, edit the sounds to have a ‘natural release’ at the end, the rolls are much nicer and sound fuller.
Hello sir, how we can remove touch sense in sempler

Thank You.
this was great, thank you

Thank you so much.
Hello sir, how can we remove touch sense when we create tone in sampler
help please ........unable to initialize device graphics mainstage on mac
Thanks for the information
civitas 2022 as the demo is awesome
Can you go through how this new library addition influences importing and exporting files with VDL samples to and from Sibelius? Big hurdle for programs is getting music composed in Sibelius, then having to do rewrites, make changes, combine parts, break up parts, add rehearsal notes, etc. Every time I have imported XML files from Sibelius, or from Musescore into the other application I have lost notation. Some parts show up on one line, most get defaulted to piano... I think it has to do with how sibelius maps midi values to a plugin and if it can't make a direct association it just gives up.
Is there a way to use like auto tune or pitch correction with MainStage live? I use a mic into rodecaster pro 2, into my MacBook. And then in live-streaming through Ecamm. I’m wondering if ai should buy MainStage so my artists can use autotune live on stage(would route audio into Ecamm, and also back through rodecaster and into the speakers), but not sure
When I add a new channel, it’s automatically assigning the sound to my piano. How do I assign it specifically to my drum pads 4:29 ?
Can I use Liveloops with MainStage? How about live Loops when the loops are backing tracks for a live performance?
Excellent walk through of the process. Now I just need to order some solder, some wick, a USB port and locate my best soldering iron! Many thanks for posting this.
I downloaded de Template but I can[t figure out how to make more songs besides the one is included! Please Help
You can copy the patch in the template to add more songs. Each patch would be its own song in the playback plugin.
Mom’s piano 🎹 which is it? :)
Thank you! This is the video I have been looking for.
Super great comparison video - thanks a lot for making this, James ;) I did a live recording recently where I (due to limited separation options) was forced to record vibes, upright bass and nylon string guitar in the same room. I just started experimenting with the Logic Pro Stem Splitter hoping to be able to get rid of some of the bleed between the instrument mikes. It works some of the way but what I'm really lacking now is a way to separate the "Other" melange into definable instruments - vibes and nylon string guitar in this case. Is there any product in the market that can do this? It must be coming anytime soon. Thanks again, Best Vibes, Mo'. ❤🐫🤠🇩🇰
I've bought the full VDL about a month before this came out, I wish the Muse Group would hint a little as they were updating that VDL would come to Musescore 😭
if i've bought the full tapspace vdl, do i still have to buy the muse vdl?
Unfortunately yes, they are two separate products that are not compatible with each other.
Wow it must be my birthday, this is amazing! What a fantastic deal, I’m getting it right away 😎
Thank you for this! The dynamic is issue is pretty bad, I think it's the same for muse sounds instruments imo, I wish there was an easy way to fix that part but loving everything else about Musescore 4
yeah playback completely cuts out at mp and below haha. still works better in Muse than in Dorico
For the love of god please do not get the presonus studiolive for marching band
Two question: 1. If my sustain pedal is built in with my keyboard I still follow the same process? 2. Is there a way to make a pedal that can start and stop the metronome?
1. It should still work, just double check if the pedal sending MIDI CC 64 that’s the message for sustaining 2. Yes, it is listed under the actions when mapping the pedal.
thank you for your time and effort - very helpful - bless
I need an audio mixer for a musical at my school to use for exactly what you were saying about metronome in one ear, and instrument sounds for the audience. Do you know of any other mixers that have the 1-2, 3-4 option that are a little more budget friendly?
The Focusrite 4i4 is a great option. It’s $180 brand new off of sweetwater. You could also look at the Behringer U-phoria UMC404HD which is $109 brand new off of sweetwater.
@@CatherallAudiothank you! Does the Volt 2 work for this?
I don’t think it will, it only has 2 outputs.
The biggest gripe I have had with musescore as a whole is importing scores or parts from a sibelius exported xml (compressed or uncompressed), and even sending a musescore file to someone else and them importing parts, bass drum parts sometimes just get put on one line... I really like MDL, especially for writing tuplets and the accessibility, but the importing is brutal. I honestly think its a thing sibelius bakes in somewhere to make life harder for non-sibelius users. Different software architectures are going to have issues, but how the XML format is supposed to be the universal language between programs but it just doesnt translate correctly sucks.
Can you review the VDL sounds for musescore 🙏 Awesome review
Great review dude!! #1 fail on their end, dirty drumline playback makes it 100% non-usable. No one needs their kids to hear a dirty battery on the show mp3. I’ll take old VDL’s sound quality trade off for playing perfectly in time - You can change and alter EQ and all that, but you can’t fix bad sample editing. I heard this in their first demo they posted too, and hearing it’s just baked in, rough. They’d have to re-edit the entire sample collection and also remove the round robin as an option. If it can’t play basic street beat stuff clean, it’s going to be a complete disaster for anything even remotely challenging or dense. Maybe there’s plans for that and they just launched it early, but this is a long way from being a daily workhorse.
I definitely agree, it’s got some work to go before it could justify any mainstream usage. I’m interested in checking out the VDL offering on MuseScore!
At the very least, you can set the snare and quad playback to be "solo" using the sound flags. It won't sound as thick and full as a whole battery playing, but at least playback for them won't be dirty. The bass unisons, however... Yikes. Nothing you can do there.
I’ve been using it for the last few weeks, it’s not bad at all! My only gripes are only 5 basses, no options for 6 or more basses, and the sticking still isn’t figured out yet.
I continually watch these videos. Thanks for putting it out there for the world.
My sampler is not playing when I click the key (with mouse) trigger/hear the sound when I upload. Is there a setting that I have to change in order to do this?
You may need to check that the sample is set to 1-shot. You could also double check that you placed the samples on the intended octave that you wanted to trigger.
No you do not have stem splitter in logic pro 11 if your mac has intel chips!!!!!!!!!! Stem splitter is greyed out and disabled so you will need another option than Logic Pro 11 or include buying a new Mac with apple chips then you will have Stem Splitter for the additional $200 far from free. I am here for the options because I cannot buy a new Mac just to use stem splitter (Yes I do have logic pro 11 and Intel chips on my iMac, stem splitter is disabled)
Can it work without daw during live performance

If I was playing live with a backing track, could I use MainStage?
So nice! Great walkthrough ❤️🎉
Hello friend! I downloaded the Backtrack Template, but it says the information is unreadable. Can you tell me if everything is ok with the file?
I sincerely apologize about that. I have fixed it now, the download should work as intended.
