- It was recently announced that season three of HBO Max's "Euphoria" is on hold, potentially indefinitely, and the internet is celebrating. Surprisingly, it isn't millennials that are celebrating, it's young adults and teens. Let's talk about why you can count me in on the celebration.

When I worked at Starbucks a few years ago all the Gen Z highschool girls were telling me to watch Euphoria. I watched 1 or two episodes and ended up taking a long shower after because I wanted to wash off the feeling that show gave me. I'm a 27 year old and couldn't handle that show, I can't believe high schoolers are watching this!?! What happened to shows like One Tree Hill or Vampire Diaries for teenagers 😭
Righhhhhhht
what happened is that people like you thought one tree hill and vampire diaries were OK, and now they can push the next level. in 10 years zoomers will be asking what happened to euphoria and why is gay porn on TV?
I have a friend who’s been watching Euphoria since she was TWELVE. Mind you, I met this friend at a sheltered Christian home school co-op. I don’t know if her mother doesn’t know or if she doesn’t care, but I’m concerned for her
Hah, youre precious, Thats nice to hear. Refreshing,
Same all my coworkers in their 18-20’s were telling me how good the show was. I was going to give it a try because I liked Game of Thrones even though it was very sexualized but the story was good at the start. I’d just skip over a lot of the nudity. I’m 24 and I watched the first two episodes and when Jules went to that hotel it made me physically sick. I had to turn it off and also shower, if made me feel so icky. And I’m not even that much older than these girls that recommended it to me.
"aestheticizing trauma"... no kidding
it reminds me of Evangelion
Rues addiction is not cute or fun looking or Aesthetic at all. Season 2 shows that. It's not all glamorous.
@@leahalford5769 Yes she's the only reality anchor in there, but the rest, it's definitly an "aesthetic mess", leading with Sweeny's portrayal as the most obvious point, glorifying depression like never seen before on a screen. I find the show very good at making you feel bad, but it doesn't save you after and that is what is wrong with it, is just dark upon darkness enveiled in those glooming sepia and ochre tones, impecable photography tho, the best kind I've seen about a nostalgia style, but again, that's still aesthetical helpless dark stuff to is most, being streamed. The acting on everyone is superb, is HBO sure, but again is also a dressing around how "hope-shrunk" it is.
@@JorgeLuisGarcia101 I think Sam Levinson needs to stick with writing about addiction. I feel like the world is just dark sometimes. Some people can't be helped or saved. There's not always a happy ending. Which is realistic. I'm a simple person. I don't take things on TV seriously as I know already life is far from what's portrayed 99% of the time. I just watch the cool aesthetic scenes and music, laugh at the funny parts and just enjoy the ride. For me I never understood people taking it seriously. Even growing up. I think as of recent it's been very alarming to me how much emphasis people place on a fictional show with fictional characters. I don't take it seriously and I don't make decisions based on it. I think parents need to step in and raise their kids not to do that. But yes the sexualizing of highschoolers does rub me the wrong way. And don't even get me started on the idol ugh 😫😩🙄
@@leahalford5769I wasn’t gonna comment on this but I am now lol I definitely agree, I think Rue’s character is definitely the most compelling because I think they perfectly depict what drugs feel like TO HER while also realizing the absolute damage addiction causes to that person and everyone around them. I think it really is a good balance and is one of the best parts of the show.
High school is always portrayed like a jungle of drugs, sex, constant partying. I get it’s for “entertainment” but honestly most of it is just awkward people enjoying the last years to just be kids before getting thrown into the deep end of adulthood. Sure, my school has a few kids who have smoked weed or drank, but it’s nothing like the romanticized experience of Euphoria. Especially all the sex as well. Most people could agree that it’s nothing like euphoria. Barely happens. (in my experience at least, very few of my classmates have engaged in the kind of behavior on the show).
literally couldnt get past 4 episodes cause of how graphic the sex scenes are. like seriously is just p*rn but set in HIGHSCHOOL we do not need this show coming back as a society
That's why it's popular.
I need it to come back because it’s hot
Funny coming from the guy with “somebody come get her” as his username. We know she dancin like a stripper…….😂😂😂😂
theres a bunch of teen shows like this and its crazy.... its not for teens at all. its basically soft porn. But creating unrealistic content for teens is very hollywood
@@buckiemohawk3643 What are the others?
Euphoria didn't turn Zendaya into a movie star, spider-man homecoming did, it came out 2 years before whatever the hell that show is
who?
That's not what she said. She said it helped move her out of disney.
Technically, you could argue that she was still working for Disney since Marvel is under Disney and shares the Spiderman rights with Sony.
Also, Jacob Elordi became famous since working on The Kissing Booth trilogy which the first movie that came out the year before the show.
Exactly. Zendaya was already swinging with Spiderman long before this show.
Euphoria is the only thing she’s good in lol
Where is Jane Austen when you need her?
Yes!!!!
It feels like these high school shows are just adults putting their own fantasies, but in teens… which is really creepy 😬
🎯 I wonder what's on Sam Levinson's laptop...
Extremely
The show is for adults not teenagers. I heard that zendaya doesn’t wanna do it anymore cuz she doesn’t like that kids have been watching it and glamorizing it. If that’s true she really is a good human.
I lasted about 3 episodes before I checked tf out.
Whats worse is when I saw a clip of Zendaya on a Q&A panel and a 10 yr old girl asked her a question about the show. When Zendaya saw how young the girl was, she was visibly embarrassed and ashamed to be involved with the show
I remember they did interviews and some kids were in the audience asking questions
i mean you can’t really control who watches the show… that’s the parents’ faults
@@julianavlogs7619 Indeed, it is the parent's fault. But Zendaya realized that kids adore her, and they'll watch anything she is in. That's why she was so embarrassed and ashamed
Zendaya is so done with Euphoria
It’s like this for everything. Even YA novels targeted for teens are filled with long detailed descriptions of sex, and swearing. I’m starting to think that these books and shows aren’t for teens any more, just adults who want to feel like they’re in high school but still want the shock of an R rated movie.
Even Tamora Pierce novels has sex scenes.
@@markmunroe-hz8rf Her old ones didn't. They had innuendo and "fade-to-black" scenes. Still unnecessary. Her first three Tortall series were pretty good overall. The second Tricksters book was rubbish and I don't know why anyone would bother with her after that trainwreck.
The YA books now are often way rauchier and edgier than mainstream adult novels from the 70s and 80s. I don't even bother with new YA novels because they'll be either smut or a woke diatribe.
@@talithakoum3922 I'd rather stick to the original Lord of the Rings trilogy and the original Robert E. Howard Conan stories.
Judging from the covers of recent YA novels, I don't think most of the newer ones are appropriate for teens. I'm 27 and I'd be uncomfortable reading them now. I'm sure there are a lot of other young adults (and older) that feel the same way.

Theres no chance this show is coming back since Angus Cloud (Fez) passed away. Season 2 was building his character up to be more involved with everyone, romantic plotline, character development - with him tragically passing away the show's chance of coming back did too.
Considering the ending of S2, they'll probably say that he died in the police raid.

I don't know much about this TV series, but what I do know, is that season 3 has been delayed so many times, that the show should just be canceled already.
I believe the show is cancelled, they just are saying delayed but I’m sure it’s cancelled for good and although I enjoyed it, the actors are wasaay too old and too much time has passed.
I know a lot of the actors and actresses are super busy with other projects
We have to wait until October now cuz Levinson can't write anything good rn. Not looking good 😢
Euphoria wasn't all that. First season, I could see that at least were going for something. The second one, it was clear it was just glamorizing sex and drugs despite the producer's claims otherwise.
Edit: People in the comments are not smart 😂. Yes the show is indeed glamorizing sex and drugs. Just because they portray drugs as bad doesn't make that portrayal good 😂. That's the problem.
lame show glad its going away
It’s trash. A Win for us, Make Movies/TV Great Again❤
I don’t think they were…I suffered through addiction and it’s really a rollercoaster ride and you do chase the high because you feel amazing, it’s not easy to give it up and many times you do t want to, it’s hard for people to understand.
Glamorizing? There’s something wrong with you if you idolize their life. That’s like saying Walter white made u wanna sell drugs.
Season 1 was great s2 was solid but this whole “glamorising” thing is so bs like did u not watch ep5 of s2? I swear y’all act like yous don’t wait every week for an episode.
It makes me so so angry that Hollywood keeps trying to push boundaries. I read an article recently with an actress, I won't say who, who directed or produced a movie where she's full on naked in one scene, and she was so proud of the fact that the movie was edgy and pushing boundries. Yet I'm thinking to myself, this is the same actress who when her nude photos were released, would not shut up about it and how it supposedly traumatized her. And how is her doing nude scenes now somehow empowering? You're giving you're body away even more, and any dignity you may of had. She also made a joke about sleeping with the director of one of her past movies(which she did at the time, she also at one point slept with a married man who was separated from his wife whom he had children with, who at the time the kids were little, then went on to claim she was so uncomfortable doing sex scenes with a married man.). All I am saying can be confirmed by things she herself said, and papperazi pictures of her making out with the married guy and on secret vacations with him. God this kind of shit is beyond disgusting. Where did morality go? Sorry but I had to rant. I am so brokenhearted over the evil in this world and that people think they can get away with it.

If this show is getting cancelled it's purely because the stars are all now massive stars and the show's budget wouldn't stretch to bring them back - that's the reason, whether you like the content or not.
Facts, people who think it’s getting cancelled because of the content are delusional, the show has massive ratings, it’s the popular stars thing and also too much time has passed.
Agree.
Many people don’t know this, but Euphoria is based on an Israeli series with the same name. It ended up being very different from the original, but HBO actually bought the show from the Israeli show runners. The first thing I noticed about the American version is the lack of consequences to actions. The entire Israeli series revolves around consequences to actions and choices, but this aspect was completely removed from the American version. It was most notable in the storyline of Kat, the Israeli character she is based on suffered consequences so much for her choices. In the American version she was rewarded. And in the Israeli series there was an "event" that preceded the plot, and everything that happened afterwards is the consequences of that “event”. In the American version there wasn’t anything like this.
I think the problem with Euphoria is all the gratuitous sex scenes. The show actually shows a lot of the problems of drug abuse, sex abuse, and domestic abuse. In a lot of ways I thought it had potential to be a great show. Overall, it was a good concept and had some really good acting moments (particularly from Zendaya). Only problem is they showed way more nudity than necessary which makes it seem like the person who made the show just wanted to have an excuse to show lots of naked women. It’s actually too bad, because personally I liked the show in a lot of ways. I think it had a lot of potential, but people made some bad decisions that undermined what the show was trying to do in the first place.
Agreed, it would've been good, but they overdid it on the nudity
Just when I needed something to watch on my lunch break. Thanks

There was little to no reason for this story to be in high school. All of the story lines could be written for college age and the whole underage soft core is instantly less weird

He didn't make "The Idol," him and The WeekND hijacked it from the original creator.
if anything from that show will be missed it will be the costume designs (aka the characters fashion) while over the top and not realistic it, it was really fun to look at and there are alot of videos about just how good it was being able to tell the story as well. i personally have never watched the show but i can remember seeing clips and stills of the actresses in different outfits and being able to remember them because they were just different really.

Brett, there’s this really weird vibration in my earphones when I watch your videos. It’s odd, it’s like a different frequency than usual being thrown at my ears. It’s only there when you speak and when the volume is louder than about 80% though.
I never watched the show, but it'd be interesting if the time jump happens and the previously teens have to deal with the consequences of their actions into adulthood.
Show the kids the real FAFO effect.
That would explain why the actors are off making so many movies. Actors usually don’t work so much between seasons.
I remember watching Beverly Hills 90210 (original) as a teenager, and all the adult concepts in THAT always left me feeling dirty, clouding my otherwise happy mind with troubled thoughts and unpleasant feelings. Euphoria?? I wouldn’t watch that with somebody else’s eyes! 👀 Why’re they destroying our youth like that?!
Hi Brett
An unexpected side effect of streaming services is that the boundaries that were in place between network, cable and paid cable channels no longer really exist. HBO always had content like this, because it was behind a paywall, or behind the scramble for those of us of a certain vintage, it was still a more limited audience. Or, to put a finer point on it, I didn’t have HBO, so I never saw Real Sex. Now, the paywall has been mitigated because all the streaming services are generally the same cost, so paying for HBO is just another streaming next to Disney+ or Netflix. Any boundary is now gone, so instead of the softcore being on Saturdays at midnight, it’s available anytime to anyone.
I think Euphoria would’ve been a really good show if it actually brought awareness. I think the only awareness it actually brought is to Rue’s drug abuse and how far low someone’s willing to go because of it. If anything, it taught people to avoid individuals like Rue because they’ll just screw you over due to their own selfish impulses. It’s sad.
Think that's the idea
Wow cause when I watched this especially the special episode it made me sympathetic towards people who become addicted to drugs and I can only hope one day we figure out how to help them
Nope, HBO is still doing the season 3, and Sam Levinson is still finishing the scripts and mostly waiting a little longer to make the show take place outside of high school, and more in a adult setting.
As soon as the video ended, i got an Ad for a new show called under the bridge. It seems to be worth a watch portraying these themes in a less glamorous, dark suspense mystery vibe
Saw one scene of this show and that was enough for me.
1. It’s the fact that Euphoria is under the romance category even though every relationship in the show is toxic in some way
2. I think people who watched are just attracted to the aesthetic of Euphoria then the show like the background music, makeup, outfits etc
3. I do think the show is trying to attract teenagers or a 20/21 year old because what 36 year old wants to watch a show about teenagers and the aesthetic of the show it uses the naivety of young people to their advantage.
I HATE that show. My teen family member finished Season One, and that night went to her parents room and said she wanted to kill herself. She was already depressed and the show sent her over the edge. When her parents took her to a mental hospital to get help, they learned she wasn’t the first kid to go there because of the show. That show needs to be wiped off the face of the earth.
THIS needs to be recognized. People need to know that even shows with heavy issues and disturbing material CAN cause depression. Kids that were in NINTH GRADE watched the show. And they said it has “changed them.” Like why would you go over the boundary. Just why? Makes no sense. 🙄
Sorry to hear. But she obviously had issue before watching a particular show? - And if this show gave her depression? She had issues before the show. ( projecting fact from fiction) It was just a trigger, and eventually something else would have. Maybe this show wasn't a good thing ,but at least it was a trigger enough to get her some help when she had people around to get her some mental health care. There are worse times to have mental break - like when your alone.
I will agree that even though I’m an adult if you have mental issues and are not very stable it can drive you over the edge….

Thanks Brett for always bringing light to these things ❤ for me personally idc what it is, if it's adults playing as teens or actual teens playing teen parts it's uncomfortable af to watch or listen. I always think something... of people that can just sit through that shit and not fast forward. Or not completely just turn the shit off. Because I would it's sickening and what adult wants to sit and watch another adult pretend to be a kid and have sex, or watch a real kid pretend to have sex. Fucking predatory idc what anyone says.
I watched euphoria the whole show when I was 13. I’m now 14. It actually informed me about a lot of things and I’ve learned about drugs and never to take them
I am so glad you addressed the idea of hiring people well into adulthood as teens to portray scenes that are inappropriate for actual teens to do. I have wondered about this for years. If you changed them from high schoolers to college students, what would you lose? Oh yeah, your ped-philic interests. (Or, as I learned in that hilarious yts, ephebophilia, but I digress.)
Am I the only person here who liked Euphoria? I agree that it's very inappropriate to show basically porn of characters that are minors, that's really weird, but the show itself was entertaining. The fashion and especially the music were incredible. And as someone who watched it as a minor (which I know is something I shouldn't have done) it didn't make me want to live their lives. Pretty much every character was constantly on the edge of having a mental breakdown...as a goodie two shoes it actually made me glad that I wasn't a train wreck like them
Every so often I feel bad I am not up to date with modern releases, such as when they had a sequel to Enchanted (2007); Every time I see an upload like this, I am content with my decision to break from most public media, aside from ad free UA-cam via Brave, as I am also missing a lot of the horrible shows and movies as well.

I’ve seen both 2 seasons (Lol even tho I shouldn't legally) and this is easily an S tier show for me. The characters all feel so real, the portrayal of addiction is brutal and honest, and it depicts teenage anxiety and depression in a relatable way. The cinematography is good, the acting follows, but to me that’s supplementary to the great writing. So I was really surprised to find out how many people strongly disliked the show.
I love Brett and her takes but I gotta disagree here
How do they feel real? They are literally just hollow and generic stereotypes that shine their ‘inspirations’ in a bad light
@@quietdemon8138 Oh trust me, those stereotypes are more common than the eye can tell. Perhaps it's a demographic thing but honestly the show just feels and relatable, especially when i take a retrospective look at my life and experiences. No shii, teenagers can be extremely effed up.

Sometimes the show makes me angry. Sometimes it makes me sad. Idk I resonate with Rue a lot and honestly can understand where most of the characters are coming from. It's real asf especially now that I think abt that 2nd year of high school
I have no idea what that is... 😅. I'm millennial, I don't have time for this anymore😂
Wow already 114 comments and it's only been out 15 min 🤯
Just so you know Brett, I got the same headphones but in black because of you dude!
"Oh No! Anyway. "
Watched this show and I honestly don’t know what it was about. Like the whole point of it, but on top of that it was just so incredibly boring and then Zendaya playing the same character she always plays in every movie/show (sassy black girl) it’s just so tiresome
You are such an AMAZING role model
I saw it had a high score on rotten tomatoes and I watched the first two episodes and I couldn't keep going
And nothing of value was lost.
Giggity
never heard of these shows but i remember the soap opera they made for teens because they wanted to throw a fit about how clean HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL was so they show cast all the bad in the world this became the norm for shows and too many teens my nieces watched it and their lives went really bad for a long time
i would be lying if i didn’t say i love euphoria. i absolutely loved the show because i was a teenager as it was coming out and i related so much to all the characters. so sad it’s not gonna have a third season
It used to be a myth that genuinely talented writers were being passed up in favour of talentless hacks.
Used to be.
Talk about the Candace firing ? We need answers !
Ben refused to comment on it. I'm wondering if they are allowed to!
She’s not gonna do that! No one at DW will touch that….
Wair Candace got fired????
@@AliClovis2899 She was not fired. She didn't renew her contract. Now she's playing victim because she wants to pretend that Ben is persecuting her for religious reasons 🙄
@talithakoum3922 gotcha gotcha! Sounds like a real crappy situation for everyone. Thank you for updating me :) God bless you xx
I watched the first episode and that was more than enough!
I agree. They should emphasize more on the consequences of their actions. That would be a good show that convicts people. And less details on showing the bad actions.
not every story is for you, and that goes for every form of entertainment. what is the point of celebrating the cancellation of a show others enjoy?
Euphoria is such a weird phenomenon. Like it only has two seasons but the cultural impact is insane.
Just a mild criticism, you should try changing the beginning of that add read to be different from Ben's. It's odd hearing it read the exact same way.
Never seen or heard of the show before now, but a lot of teen movies has done a lot of this and still doing this. Even in the teen movies you know that they aren't even teen themselves. It is just crazy how it has gotten so bad.
Digrassi - Inappropriate and vulgar.
Euphoria - Hold my beer
Degrassi was actually a very well made show in the 1980s and the early seasons of the reboot before it became incredibly inappropriate in later seasons. Around season 5 or 6 of TNG it became darn near unwatchable. Younger audiences need a show like Degrassi Junior High/High now.
@@Amberh2432 Thanks I guess I saw the later seasons. I know sex was not a big subject in high school. Not that it didn't happen but it was only talked about by Freshman and Sophomore guys lieng to classmates about how much they getting. And extremely rare in Junior high.
I watched two seasons and only delusional person would be saying it’s glamorizing addiction and abuse. I think it’s actually the opposite, especially when Rue goes through mental breakdown in second season. She fights with her mother, sister, tells her friend’s secrets and ends up in huge danger. I think Zendaya did an amazing job playing addict. The music from the show is amazing and Labrinth created jaw dropping soundtrack.
I’m European so some things were obviously a little too Americanized for me like Jules and Kat story. However I know a lot of Maddie’s, Cassie’s and Rue’s and all of their characters showed a lot of depth and reasoning(explanation) behind their actions.
Cassie character is abandoned by father and is raised by drunk mother so she looks for love but she is used for sex. It’s very common that lost beautiful girls are trying to find connection and guys are using their naivety. Maddie is a character who is very confident and you want to be her friend but deep down she is insecure and she doesn’t know what her life would look like when she grows up. She wants to leave small city and by constant look at her parents miserable marriage makes her sad .
Nate who was shocked by his father deviancy starts to slowly become him and while he can’t deal with his trauma he becomes violent and manipulative. Many young boys in abusive households have a lot of anger and no outlet to channel these emotions.
I would not hate on the show by watching just two episodes, the storyline gets very good and some characters are very close to real people.
That’s a pretty good summary of the show. I actually put it on to hate watch it and ended up acknowledging that it’s a brilliant show.
Well said. Everybody that behaves badly suffers horribly in this show.
Whatever helps you sleep at night 🥴
@@DARQAURA good comeback.
For real. People who call it 'cheap porn' don't understand how nuanced this series is. I do admit that sexual aspects were overdone, but character arcs are the best part of this series. Watching 'Euphoria' made me change the entire perspective I had towards high school culture in America and not in a good way. I'm pretty sure it aligns with the current reality too.
See Goose? This is why you are my Social Media Intercept Officer. Like Goose was Maverick's Radio Intercept Officer. I never would have even heard about this show if it wasn't for you. I am old and I like old shows. Then I fell for Reality tv and now UA-cam shows that are mostly Reality shows...
its like Hollywood forgot that college exists, like I get the whole 'we gotta have all these characters together for some reason' but its weird, tbh I even like watching Riverdale (Cheryls funny), as a teen you just watch but as a young adult I find myself getting weirded out by the sex stuff and then there's suddenly a scene that reminds you of the characters 'age'. gives ya that ick feeling
I will say this, S02E05 is the most realistic portrayal of opioid addiction ever depicted on film.
Umm no, watch the 1991 movie, Rush, it's more realistic
If a show/movie is delayed and the script isn't even written then there shouldn't be contracts until the script is done to find the actors unless it's past the first season, also that is stupid because then if there are complications actors might not be able to work for a long time
When I was a senior is high school, all the popular girls in my grade were watching this show and loving it and I never watched it. When I was in college I ended up watching it and watched the second season, it was hard to get through but I pushed through and was numbed to the horrifying things in it bc I still had friends who liked the show a lot. I tried to watch it again a couple years ago and I COULD NOT even get through like 5/10 mins of the first episode. It is awful and I hate that I numbed myself and ignored my uncomfortableness and made myself watch it before because I wanted to fit in and know what everyone was watching and talking about. I’m glad I at least waited until after high school to watch it, but I regret watching it at all.
I don’t see how it glorifies drugs use, it captures the worst parts of drug addiction and how it affects you and the people you love as well as any show ever
The comments disagree with you. Either way, the show is marketed for teen regardless of it's rating. Teens have no business watching shows with raunchy drawn out sex scenes and drug addiction as it's subject. Hollywood is a circle of pedophiles.
I’m usually on your side but to say a tv series is harming a society is like saying playing grand theft auto will lead to you robbing a gas station.
I watched Roadrunner cartoons, and I never dropped an anvil off a cliff.
@@NJGuy1973 right! Imagine how family guy and South Park kids must be now.
Has off the clock ended? I noticed a change in the intro
A TV show about Fezco’s shop would be wild.
I had no idea what this show was about…I’m horrified that my middle school aged students used to watch this!! They referenced it a lot, I just never felt the need to watch it myself. Can’t believe their parents allow them to engage with this sort of content at age 11😮
