I'd go with the Vans 100% just because they use a removeable insole. That alone has elevated modern Vans above other similar brands.

@Pheonixlgnd even then, it depends on how hard they go skateboarding, if they go out all day every day, then yeah shoes generally fall apart quick from that abrasion, thats what gets me sometimes when i see some skateboarders just straight trash companies just because of how they go out and skate, it ain't their fault people essentially sand down their shoes completely and then say "your shoes are trash", hell im pretty sure some skaters do that on purpose.

One thing to note! The Vans you reviewed are meant are marketed and made as work shoes, so that could possibly be as to why they would be a bit better quality than an everyday shoe, i think a slightly more fair comparison would be with a “classic tumble” style of vans shoe

I'm glad you're back. And the review comparison was solid. In my personal experience with both leather shoes you compared here the vans are more worth it. The ultra cush insole lasts a really long time and after my soles actually wore out I put them in other shoes to wear because they remained as comfy as they started. Also in my experience vans last longer, but the soles on these will go long before you notice any real tear in the leather. Neither counter gave out on me in that timeframe either so that's worth noting

I have a pair of grey leather Converse lows, since 2016. Wear them almost every day, they're still holding up well even now. I wear em as slippers in the house too, I just flip them up when I'm heading out. Great shoes, go with any look.

I own a pair of low top leather Converse, and two pair of high tops, but I have had mine for nearly 8 years (they're my "fancy"/going-out-partying shoes, so they don't get a lot of wear). My low tops look exactly like the ones here, but mine have thick leather. I remember when I bought them being surprised how thick and heavy they were for a low top sneaker. Perhaps I lucked out, or maybe the manufacturing has changed in the intervening timeframe.

I never found the canvas to be the weak point on chucks. After 2 years of wear, the boxing started separating from the sole and allowed moisture in. On a side note, I’ve noticed some chucks with and without the felt on the bottom. At first I’ve only seen the non felt at discount retailers but later noticed it at a department store that previously had the felted sole version.

I'd love to see you cut a Viberg Service Boot in half. It seems pretty conclusive that Nick's are the best of the best of the work boots. Viberg is often hailed as the best of the best of the slightly more style-focused heritage boots. I do understand that they cost a lot and cutting one in half does feel criminal, but I think a lot of people would like to see what's inside their $800 boots.

Hey, I don't know if you accept review suggestions from the comments, but I think it would be really interesting if you tried cutting some not so mainstream sneakers like Converse Run Star Hike, reebok club c 85, veja v10, new balance 574/997h.
Also equally or even more interesting would be to review some designer boots/shoes like bottega veneta boots, ysl boots, etc and compare them to other handmade products!

I went through a lot of leather shoes (You want waterproof -- bodily fluids, harsh chemicals, etc.) I had a pair of their leather hightops that had a lower a lot like this and a lot of padding around the ankle. Ugly as heck. They lasted almost a year, which was better than anything else under $125. Plus I got them for $35 and they saved a lot of ankle bruises.

Vans are the best sneakers. I’ve got a pair canvas Authentics that are over 10 years old and I still use them to mow the lawn. They literally just won’t die. I’ve got some Eras that are pretty old as well that I stopped wearing with socks good for canoeing or when it’s extremely hot. But I have one pair of leather Sk8 mids and honestly they are kinda weak, wore out after a season of daily wear. The Old Skool hybrid suede/canvas dont last as long either. Maybe they use different rubber compounds but the deck shoes just seem to last forever and great value for money.

Hyped for the WW2 boots! My current favorite pair of boots is the Corcoran 1510 jump boots.

want to be a real hero? do a skate shoe specific playlist. some of the classics would be cool. things like the Vans Half-Cab, Es Accel OG, Etnies Fader, Emerica Reynolds or Templetons, etc.. maybe the Catiba Pros or the Valelly from Cariuma, Vans Ave Pro, and the P-Rods from Nike, too. just to compare.

Maybe should do a video or mini series with the focus on non slip shoes. What’s best for service industry workers, healthcare, factory…etc

Man the last time I wore these shoes was when I was like 20yrs old In 2012. Moved on to wearing steel toe boots after that

I already know these shoes are not great quality but it's always a joy to see you analyze them. Any plans to dissect some Truman java waxed flesh boots or Thursday vanguards?

It’d be cool if you could take a look at some of the higher end sneakers like Visvim, Hershey Shoe Co/Victory Sportswear, Feit, Hender Scheme... I’m not expecting anything crazy on the inside, but the attention to detail and materials would be great to see a breakdown

It would be nice if you could cut some canadian boot like Royer and Canada West. Some employers ask for a few spec that are not used in the US, so a lot of people are restraint on which boot they can buy.
Also, Royer's boot are everywhere here and I suspect the quality to be below the average work boot seen on this channel. Canada West seems nice, but there's only one way to be sure.
