My mom worked at a factory that made Converse back in 1976. She sewed the All-Star logo on high-tops. I showed her my pair of Chuck 70s and she said they were exactly how she remembered them.
I bought my first pair of blue canvas Chuck Taylors in Detroit, back in the early 70's. Had a pair of high tops in black for playing b-ball in high school. Glad to see that they are still growing strong, and improving with age. Damn I'm getting old. :(
Weighing in on the extra stitching! I know 100% the reasoning for it. Although yes, it does provide more lateral support for any light physical activity, and it does help keep the two layers of canvas together, those are only a byproduct. The reason that is there is actually for the tongue :P The tongue widens out near the front of the shoe like a “T” and the left and right side is pieced and stitched into the both sides there to prevent it from moving. If you unlace your C70’s fully and pull open take a peek yourself, you’ll see that the tongue widens out and goes into the side there just around the first eyelet. And now you guys know! 😜

I already wear the more expensive Vans vault line, I think the difference in quality definitely justifies the higher price, which isn't that much more expensive, considering there are people paying 500 dollars or even more for shoes. So if you like the 70s better I think you should definitely get it
I got a pair of 70's three weeks ago. They're worth the extra $30. Stronger canvas and better cushioning, and just feel better on my feet. I wasn't sure I liked the off white gloss of the outsole and toecap, but after a few wears, I'm good. Nick's review is the best one I've seen comparing the two.
Awesome review nick, the 70's are ridiculously good shoes, for someone who wore all stars for 20 years quite literally in the mountains snow and streets of New York and honestly can't think of a shoe I can be without (aside the shoes and boots I have now) but I thought I would just pick up one of these 70's just to see what they were about and even then in my hand I knew it was better immediately and bought it that's how good they are.
Nick, your Converse reviews are always my favorites! I agree the 70 is a superior shoe for casual wear, but I also liked the defunct Chuck 2. Love that you put your name in your pair, no one is going to steal them. Thanks for this great review Nick.
The Chuck II was too similar to the skate version known as the Converse CONS CTAS (Chuck Taylor All Star). They both feature the Lunarlon insole from Nike. The CTAS has seen many revisions over the years and was originally known as the CTS. What was so great about the CTS were the quality insoles, suede toe caps, and a decent amount of memory foam padding in the tongue and collar. I never understood why Converse had to have the OG Chuck Taylor, the Chuck 70, Chuck Taylor II, and CTAS all at the same time. What made the Chuck II such a standout for you?
The chuck Taylor 2 shoes were so good, one of the best shoes I've ever brought and i wish they'd bring them back because they're basically tattered after 3 years of use

These converse chucks are the best shoe ever created. I'm still wearing my high top chuck 70's for more than 10 years now and still hasn't worn out. Still looks good as it grow older. I even use it whenever I had my motorcycle rides 😀
One clear advantage of the standard Chucks is that they have tongue holders. The left tongue on Parchment 70s constantly slides down. The ankle patch looks better on the standard Chucks as well.
I've had the All Stars for 10 years, with no problems and just as good as the day I bought them, apart from scuff marks on the white rubber, but after seeing the "smoke effect" design on new converses, have decided to keep them as they are. I put insoles in, and they're still lighter than the 70's which still feel way too heavy to wear all day but I've never had a pair.
Wait wait wait, the same pair for 10 years??? Usually for me the side completely blows out within like 2 years, I've had only one pair out of like six where that didn't happen and I could actually wear out the soles and even then they were pretty much unwearable after 4 years

I still have a pair of the Chuck II low tops. Haven’t worn them that regularly, but they do seem more durable than the originals. Shame they’re not around anymore.
I love my Chuck IIs, but this video makes me want to get a pair of 70s now too. I might also get the OG Pro Leather, which is similar to the Cons I wore when I played high school basketball in the 1980s.
Apparently nike took note of your comments about having less variety of colors and styles in the 70!! great review and helped me make some decisions today.
70's are my favourite.I like classics but they are uncomfortable after a while.I love how comfortable are chuck II but i miss the white stiches and the black line on the sole when i look them.70's are comfortable and have the classic look too.And the materials are better. They look and feel premium. The insole on 70's is also better than the ortholite they use on some converse models like Courtlands.
I have All Stars and 70’s and love them both but have been finding that with the new 70’s I’ve bought they are cutting my heels from the canvas being thicker and less flexible. Has anyone experienced this or has any tips to soften them/stop this happening? My All Stars are by far the most comfy shoes I own.
I have both. The allstars that I own seem to be more premium than the traditional allstars. I find the 70s and allstars are comfortable but the 70s are better built
I didn’t even notice the lack of a rigid heel stay/support on the 70s, but that would explain why my heel slips a bit. I am not sure I’ll actually get used to the squishy sole of the 70s.
I've been finding people that actually talk about the detail these shoe have cause all i see people do with converse is that they compare the fake and the real.. also they review it.. i love your videos man!! Keep it up!!
bought a pair of 70's in 2018 still use them and it's my DAILY ones. They legit barely have any wear and tear, unlike my all stars previously that went doodo after 3 months during the summer
The "best" Converse is still a very basic shoe by most shoemaking standards. They should either drop the price or introduce meaningful improvements in comfort and durability. I'm saying that as someone who actually likes the classic look but the flat insole is crap, there's almost no cushioning, the heel reinforcement falls apart and the rubber always cracks right where your toes bend.
By far the best review of the original and the 70s that I’ve seen on here. The only thing that I still have questions about is the sizing. I get what you’re saying about the differences in sizing between the original and the 70’s but are you saying that Chuck Taylor’s in general run true to size? Because I’ve always had discrepancies with this. In almost all brands of shoes I wear US10.5 - US11 but in Chuck Taylor’s, I wear a US9.5, yet the measurements between the Chuck Taylor’s and other shoes should be standardly the same, right?
I own many shoes, some for walking, snow, etc. I always come back to my converse and vans as they go with every outfit and the look is timeless. Never owned a pair of Chuck 70s though only all stars so far
I didn't know about the 70s and have 3 pair of All Stars, 2 pair of One Stars, and 2 platform Lifts...lol! I have many shoes, too, and like variety so I don't worry about them wearing out too much. I also have a decent amount of Vans. I was on Vans first because the All Stars I had were not as sturdy. Vans definitely made sturdier. However, I got the One Stars and I absolutely LOVE the comfort of them. The Lifts as well. I still have feeling for my Vans and have work them so much that shoe lace had to be replaced instead of the shoe. But comfort of Converse of Lifts and One Stars are impeccable. Never bought a 70...and not sure I will any time soon. I need to chill on shoe buying.
Here’s my deal.. the 70’s yes premium etc.. how ever the toes stick up like clowns shoe I HATE THAT.. I fn love the 80’s “made in the USA”version the toe lays flat to the ground never curving up! All converse that are outta the USA do that especially now that Nike owns them. So I stick to eBay always on the hunt for the REAL OG NON CLOWN SHOES 😂 great work on this upload 💯🏆
Question for people with wide foot that has 70's and they were too narrow for them - did you break them in? Are they comfortable after a while? Or is that 'narrowness' stays and maybe it's better to get a half/one size up?
canvas doesnt really stretch, so if it is too narrow (toes squished, too thin for your ball of foot) size up a bit edit: converse also have wide sizes on standard chucks, but chuck 70s dont
I´ve used all stars ages ago but i stop wearing them because they are rather poor quality, and really unconfortable. these 70s made wear converse all star again. It´s amazing it´s such an unique design, they never go out of fashion even if you think it´s not appropriate anymore. Regardless what people may tell you, this model is so much better than the original, the model that all have been waiting for. In a nutshell if you like Chucks , buy the 70s and leave the other to teenagers who can´t afford this model. Great review, i love my red wine pair ;)
As far as sizing I normally wear an 8m in the classic chuck But felt that the chuck 70 was still a 1/2 size to big so I’m going to return and try a 7-1/2
I never owned all-stars due to lack of cushion. Since the Chuck 70, I have sold every other sneaker including all my Jordans. I have never felt more liberated than after selling my last J, Cement 3.
I haven’t worn chucks since high school so I was iffy on buying a pair. But it was monkey style boots by red wing that made me want a pair of chucks. Something about that lace to toe that looks so cool. So I bought a pair and they are so damn comfortable. I do not regret buying them worth every penny 👍
I had 5 pair of all stars before I was 4 years old, I had a red pair, white pair, and blue pair around my 3rd birthday. My parents were like that in the early 90s.
Yes, I came here to looking for help with the right size and I have just purchased a pair of low tops. I normally were a size 10.5 in Nikes (Blazers for example). I also have wider feet. I ended up trying out a size 10 first, which fit, but was just a half size too big for me and just looked long. So I tried a 9.5 and the fit was good. Just a little bit on the narrow size, but I have wide feet. Overall the 9.5 is much better look and fit. On the comfort scale, compared to the All-Star, it is a notable improvement to where I can actually wear a pair of chucks and not regret it. The 70s are the way to go and the way chucks should be made period.
I have a pair of All Stars but instead of the lightweight canvas it's more of a thicker "regular" shoe material. The color is a "static gray" with it being mainly gray but it's grainy with black and white specks in it, if that makes sense. Really it's kinda like gray canvas with a soft backing or something. I dunno what the exact model is though. I don't think I've ever gotten more compliments on a pair of shoes than I have with my All Stars, lol. I took up weight lifting early this year and they work great for that too. One day I will have huge man legs like the man himself Nick. 😲🦵 Maybe I'll pick up a pair of the 70s too! Thanks for the review big 🐕, great as always
i died a little inside when they stopped the production of the chuck taylor 2. it was slick, versatile, modern, had a premium feel, and was quite nice to wear. i'll forever miss that embroidered logo which i've never seen done well in any other brand.
Would you order the same size if you order it online when converting from All Star to Chuck 70? I dont have any outlets where i live and the website is highly inaccurate as informed by an agent
If I had to wear one shoe for the rest of my life I would choose the classic converse all Star high top in black because I can do almost anything in them except for running and fast treadmill walking. Since a teen I have only have been wearing converse I can skate in them, do MMA in them, ride my bike in them and they are the best gym shoe. I personally believe are comfortable and last long, my leather converse high-top's lasted 7y and I literally did everything in them! :) I also believe that converse are the most unmaterialistic shoe that there is and the opposite of greed, even tho I love my chucks I refuse to have a collection, I used to have like 9 chucks but I decided to donate them to the poor cuz they need them more than me, so now I only have 2 pairs of chucks. Life is too short for me to worry about my shoes or to start a sneakers collection that why I ended up wearing the same shoe/shoe style for so many years :)
I think the OG All-Star shoe is more aesthetically pleasing...I don't like the extra weight of the 70's...I prefer a lighter shoe 👟...Although it does seem that the 70 shoe is better quality and more durable, just wish it was a bit lighter. I would get a pair of each...I like the OG shoes overall look, but they do hurt your feet to wear them for long periods of time...I use to wear my Chuck's just for a few hours or so, but if you want to do a lot of heavy walking I would buy the 70's...So, I would buy both...GOD Bless ✌️
The 70s are great but the IIs, especially the counter climate ones that kept some water away, were crazy comfortable and had robust construction. I prefer the aesthetics and waxed sole and laces of the 70s any day but the Lunarlon on the IIs feel superior (imo) than the 70s.
I got my first pair maybe my first year of high school in 1989/90… I can’t remember if I had the black first but I def had a pair of purple high tops. They were from an old Army Navy with old stock so they had a black rubber heel tag.
Yeah, same experience, im normally 8 mens for CTAS, but when i had a chance to fit them in the store, 8Mens is so snugged and i need to go half a size up (8.5Mens)
The only thing I don’t like with the Chuck 70’s is the thickness of the sole. As I dislike any kind of platform shoes version of a classic pairs, I think this model should be as thin as the Chuck Taylor All Stars. It would be so close to perfection.
I'm in my late 40s and found a strong liking for Chuck 70 hi top. I'm from India where we have bright sunny days round the year, except 3 months of rainy season. So could you please suggest whether I should get a good pair of Chuck 70? Should it be Black/Blue/Gray to be on safe side or try some different fall colors?
I think one of the points that you didn't really address was that the 70s look a lot bulkier, apart from the increased weight that you mentioned. It's part of the reason why I personally prefer the standard Chucks, they just look a lot sleeker overall if you're going for that look. Great video otherwise!
@@Stridewise does the added bulk take away from the overall look of the shoe that much? Im in love with my all stars, but they don't last long, do the 70s looks the same just a little thicker?
That *was* actually the kids sneakers that were actually worn back then. See Timmy & Lassie, Dennis The Menace, etc. But my dad had Chucks from the 1950s, and they were beautiful! I can't tell you why they were beautiful but they were. He never wore 'em! But I knew what I wanted - I was a girl and couldn't have them until they were required for P.E. in 6th grade in the '70s. Once I was grown, I had a collection. Which I will sell so I can have a couple more custom Classics. If I wanted major "comfort," I have New Balance real running shoes. Classic Chucks come in wide widths!
I just bought em cuz I heard it was good for lifting. I walked to the gym for 40 minutes now I got a bliss. Will it get comfortable overtime? Wish I got the 70s, I felt like the laces look better too.
I got my first pair of Chucks in 1971, when they were all made like Chuck 70’s..that’s why Chuck 70’s are the REAL Chucks..by the way, they had the flashy colors back then..mine were gold.
Nice video. I'm usually a size 7uk, but recently find that I need to go up half a size. I bought the Chuck 70s at size 7 and they are a bit tight around the toe box. Can you advise is this normal? If I wear them will they 'break in' or should I just go a size up? Cheers!
Got both the classic chucks and the 70’s , and love them both. One bad thing that bothers me all the time about the Chuck 70 is the tongue. It’s so flimsy and thin, that it creases and my socks can be seen through the shoe. Why haven’t they put the regular tongue ?
You're the pro so here goes..i saw a dude with another variation of the chuck 70's high top today, it has the same reinforced features in front and the black label in the back BUT had the old school "flat" round logo found near the ankle joint, i dont like the raised puffy plastic-y looking ankle logo. Is there a model number or name for the one with the old school flat logo? thanks
Wish they made the 70s in wide fit. My feet are about size 11 but very wide and all stars/Chucks are made on a narrow last. (Most sneakers are, not just allstars) I know they make all stars in wide fit option but I also doubt if they're wide enough.
I'm a 9.5 US in the average shoe, but in the Regular CTAS I'm a 9 US. What size should I go with when purchasing the Chuck 70s? Also, do the 70s tend to run big or small?
ooo the prequel sequel analogy makes sense. I got the 2’s 4-5 years ago and I still use them for court sports. I didn’t use them the first 3 years I got them though. When I looked on site for more, I was wondering where they were- and was considering the 70’s instead
Hi, quick question. If I wear Sk8 Hi Vans at 9.5 or 9 1/2 and those fit me well, what size would you suggest I get in Chuck 70s? I once wore All Stars but the stitching near the rubber top, near the toes would cut my socks but now I seen the interior and how the stitching was different and thought I'd give it another try with the Chuck 70s :)

Did you size down or ordered the same size as your classics?
I have All Stars and 70’s and love them both but have been finding that with the new 70’s I’ve bought they are cutting my heels from the canvas being thicker and less flexible. Has anyone experienced this or has any tips to soften them/stop this happening? My All Stars are by far the most comfy shoes I own.
Long sock
I have both. The allstars that I own seem to be more premium than the traditional allstars. I find the 70s and allstars are comfortable but the 70s are better built
I agree!
hello, which of this pair is best for wide feet?
I didn’t even notice the lack of a rigid heel stay/support on the 70s, but that would explain why my heel slips a bit. I am not sure I’ll actually get used to the squishy sole of the 70s.
I've been finding people that actually talk about the detail these shoe have cause all i see people do with converse is that they compare the fake and the real.. also they review it.. i love your videos man!! Keep it up!!
Delighted you enjoyed this one, Azlan! Thanks for commenting.
Great review, I remember when the Chuck's were $17 back when I was a kid. I grew up in the 80's 😂
bought a pair of 70's in 2018 still use them and it's my DAILY ones.
Just bought me a pair today of all stars and they are the lightest shoe and super good for driving in they glue to your feet
I own many shoes, some for walking, snow, etc. I always come back to my converse and vans as they go with every outfit and the look is timeless. Never owned a pair of Chuck 70s though only all stars so far
I think 70s are better but I appreciate wanting to say with All Stars because of a stronger "relationship" with them
I didn't know about the 70s and have 3 pair of All Stars, 2 pair of One Stars, and 2 platform Lifts...lol!
I brought my first chuck 70s 3 years ago. In red. The best converse I ever brought . But I want black ones now
Here’s my deal.. the 70’s yes premium etc.. how ever the toes stick up like clowns shoe I HATE THAT..
I knew there was something about the toe that didn’t look right!
Fuck, yeah! LOL
The toe sticking up is more functional and makes the shoe less likely to deteriorate over time from repeated bending.
Question for people with wide foot that has 70's and they were too narrow for them - did you break them in? Are they comfortable after a while? Or is that 'narrowness' stays and maybe it's better to get a half/one size up?
canvas doesnt really stretch, so if it is too narrow (toes squished, too thin for your ball of foot) size up a bit
edit: converse also have wide sizes on standard chucks, but chuck 70s dont
Yo Nick I highly recommend you check out the Converse ADDICT from Japan. Two words, Vibram sole.
This seems to be the consensus!
Great video! I've had my 70's around six months and I LOVE them. I work s very physical job and walk 10k+ a night. They're still brand new!!!
Fantastic, Cesre! Yeah I'm a real sucker for thick canvas and the way it ages, the 70s are miles better in that regard.
I apparently got myself the Chuck Taylor All Stars in Canvas material and I'd say it's a good mix between the original All Stars and the Chuck 70s
If only the 70 came in a wide width for those of us with wide feet it would be a must buy
YES. They're the shoes that give you faith in Chucks again.
@@Stridewise btw thanks for the review, very informative
Still prefer the regular chucks in terms of design
agreed
As far as sizing I normally wear an 8m in the classic chuck
But felt that the chuck 70 was still a 1/2 size to big so I’m going to return and try a 7-1/2
I never owned all-stars due to lack of cushion. Since the Chuck 70, I have sold every other sneaker including all my Jordans. I have never felt more liberated than after selling my last J, Cement 3.
Defidently worth the buy!! I’ve got 2 pairs of the chuck 70s, and they are amazing!!
Maybe I'll pick up a pair of the 70s too! Thanks for the review big 🐕, great as always
i died a little inside when they stopped the production of the chuck taylor 2. it was slick, versatile, modern, had a premium feel, and was quite nice to wear. i'll forever miss that embroidered logo which i've never seen done well in any other brand.
I was so surprised when I heard it had been discontinued!
Was my favorite aswell, so slick and very comfortable !
Yep they were amazing
I also believe that converse are the most unmaterialistic shoe that there is and the opposite of greed, even tho I love my chucks I refuse to have a collection, I used to have like 9 chucks but I decided to donate them to the poor cuz they need them more than me, so now I only have 2 pairs of chucks.
The bunch of Taylors to the face LOL, wasn't expecting that
Shoulda started the video with that haha
I got my first pair maybe my first year of high school in 1989/90… I can’t remember if I had the black first but I def had a pair of purple high tops. They were from an old Army Navy with old stock so they had a black rubber heel tag.
Just picked up the navy high top All Stars for $24.99 clearance at the Nike outlet
Not bad
The Chuck 70 has a more narrow toe. That combined with the thicker insole means you should go a half size up from your chuck all star size
Yeah, same experience, im normally 8 mens for CTAS, but when i had a chance to fit them in the store, 8Mens is so snugged and i need to go half a size up (8.5Mens)
Good video, as always. Between the Chuck 70s and the Nothing New sneaker, which one do you think is more comfortable?
I love my All Star Chucks, I've have them for 3 three and I have only super glued them once cause them are work shoes.
What kind of work you do?
@@Nikes62 I'm only 15 but like when I do yard work or when I work on a vehicle.
The only thing I don’t like with the Chuck 70’s is the thickness of the sole. As I dislike any kind of platform shoes version of a classic pairs, I think this model should be as thin as the Chuck Taylor All Stars. It would be so close to perfection.
I think the decision was made with greater durability in mind, but I see your point
Wow! I learned so much! Thank you ✌️💚
I think one of the points that you didn't really address was that the 70s look a lot bulkier, apart from the increased weight that you mentioned. It's part of the reason why I personally prefer the standard Chucks, they just look a lot sleeker overall if you're going for that look. Great video otherwise!
Nah man I mentioned the bulk several times! Totally legit reason to prefer the All Star
@@Stridewise does the added bulk take away from the overall look of the shoe that much? Im in love with my all stars, but they don't last long, do the 70s looks the same just a little thicker?
The Chuck Taylor II❤️😭
The extra arch stitching is to lock in the tongue to prevent it from moving less when playing basketball.
I would love to see your thoughts on the Made in US PF Flyers!
Rose Anvil’s channel has amazing content. There are in depth analyses of the classic Chuck, Chuck 70, and PF Flyers.
Yes!
Cheers!
Great video 👍🏾 Appreciated all the information
Got both the classic chucks and the 70’s , and love them both. One bad thing that bothers me all the time about the Chuck 70 is the tongue. It’s so flimsy and thin, that it creases and my socks can be seen through the shoe. Why haven’t they put the regular tongue ?
You're the pro so here goes..i saw a dude with another variation of the chuck 70's high top today, it has the same reinforced features in front and the black label in the back BUT had the old school "flat" round logo found near the ankle joint, i dont like the raised puffy plastic-y looking ankle logo. Is there a model number or name for the one with the old school flat logo? thanks
The narrower toe on the 70 kills it for me.
Unexpected but let’s go! Love the shoe review
Haha thanks Camden
Glad I came across this video I'm in the market for some more Chucks, with this information I'll start going after the 70's.
Great! Glad you liked it Mr Stroka
Not sure if they had an option in the past, but they should allow color options for the toe caps.
Love them both, but once I went 70 I was like dame this is what I've been missing 🤣👌🏽
Which is more comfortable and durable , the C70's or the Chuck 2's?
Wish they made the 70s in wide fit.
My feet are about size 11 but very wide and all stars/Chucks are made on a narrow last.
(Most sneakers are, not just allstars)
I know they make all stars in wide fit option but I also doubt if they're wide enough.
Just go true to size and you will be ok. I wear Jordan 1 in 8.5 and 8.5 chucks are fine
everything I needed to know, thanks
Seeing your name written inside your shoe is too cute.
70s look amazing but wish they were a little lighter! Hope they make something combined with the looks of 70s and fit/lightness of all stars.
I'm a 9.5 US in the average shoe, but in the Regular CTAS I'm a 9 US. What size should I go with when purchasing the Chuck 70s? Also, do the 70s tend to run big or small?
I honestly bought a pair of 70 just because people say that they last much longer.
ooo the prequel sequel analogy makes sense. I got the 2’s 4-5 years ago and I still use them for court sports. I didn’t use them the first 3 years I got them though. When I looked on site for more, I was wondering where they were- and was considering the 70’s instead
I loved having the excuse to diss Xmen Origins :)
8.5
If they make these in the wider fit I'll grab a pair. Chucks in regular width kill my feet badly, and my feet aren't even particularly wide.
That's a common complaint, sorry to hear it man. Every foot should be able to wear the most iconic sneakers of all time!
Great info. Love it...🥰🙏
