My father just retired from being a cobbler for over 55 years. This reminded me of being a boy and sitting there watching him tear shoes apart and putting them back together all over again. Thank you for the memories and great job :)
@sdrahcir5054 Did you know people are allowed to hold the opinion that something is not appealing to them? To follow your example, You can appreciate how hard a chef works in the kitchen, and not like the taste of the dish he puts out.
@@sdrahcir5054 When Im at restaurant and trying something i never had, but i know how it should be prepared, then I can tell, that its well done but I didnt like the taste.
Grew up in Southern California and as a kid growing up in the 70s I used to purchase my Vans at a house… this was before a Vans store even existed and you could make a custom order of colors if you wanted. Vans didn’t even exist outside of the beach areas and if you went inland people always knew you were from the beach areas because most surfers wore Vans. I think my parents used to pay under $20 for a pair at the time. For me, the first thing that always happened was the big toe through the front, as soon as that happened my Vans were toast. I’m 58 years old, I live in Tokyo and I still have two or three pairs of Vans in my closet. I find it ridiculous to think I have to sometimes pay over ¥10000 for a new pair of Vans these days but I’m an older geezer now and remember the old days like they were yesterday. I would surely wear a pair of these updated kicks, they look awesome. Thanks for the video.! Inspiring work.
@@briyenmccallister7373 when leather Nike Bruins became popular, they were $28 and when we wanted to dress up that’s what we wore. $28 for kicks were a lot of money in the 70s and we treated them with care.
At first i thought “who pays that much for a pair of Vans” , but watching how professional and clean he works, i think one day he gonna make more for that work
Adorei a transformação. ❤😅
The website even has them listed as sold out @ $230, which makes sense from a monetary standpoint because you're effectively paying for a major resole job like you would on a boot that needed a rebuilt goodyear welt and mid/outsole. I gotta say, it's kind of genius -- they're not even building a boot or shoe from ground up. $40 sneakers, $40 for two Vibram outsoles and then just buy bulk leather... probably comes to $100-120 per pair to turn around for $230. Of course you need the tools and sewing machine too but that's all one-time cost. Once you're set up, if you make 10 pairs of these in one day, you've made $1000.
Great video beautiful craftsmanship. Love seeing the old machines still operating. The various types of industrial sewing machines are some of the most beautiful examples of machinery ever. Keep up the great work.
Awesome! I was stationed in Korea for a year. I remember losing my boots and going to a cobbler in Songtan. Dude made me a pair of boots in a DAY and they were nice AF.
Gotta say, I do like the original look better, but they both look good. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the skill involved! Nice work! I'll bet the newer version is a lot more comfortable, they look more comfy!
May I ask how the education system works in Korea? Did you learn this art at a specialized school that teaches crafts (like in the Czech Republic, but unfortunately the quality of education is still declining), or is this art passed down by craftsmen - master and apprentice? How do you have it? I have a feeling from YT that if I want really good quality shoes, I have to either visit South Korea or Japan :D Beautiful video.

Just 2 dudes in a shoe shop filming a gentle HJ.
I hope he visits my bedroom tonight. (I'm a man. I like ladies.)
Gotta remove the rubber 😂
what does HJ stand for, im assuming Hand Job
as soon as I saw that I was like "yep, lemme scroll to the comments"
My man turned $40 vans into $400 sketchers.

does your father still have his old machines??
@@hotsauce7j They will cost a fortune in future in my opinion :D
Came for the manufacturing process, stayed for the subtitles 😀.
Ive never had a handjob with a set of pliers/pinchers.
Ouch!
Ive never had a handjob with a set of pliers/pinchers.
At least there is a couple gentle handjobs later in the video.

Glad there is a couple gentle handjobs later in the video.😂
Yes! I'm just so glad i'm not the only one😂
"Remove rubber with gentle handjob"
TBH, I personally didn't like the way they looked when finished, But I enjoyed the process very much. SUBBED! lol
Thats kinda like going to a restaurant and saying “I didn’t like the way any of your food tasted, BUT, it smelled really good when you were cooking!”

I agree. I can't do the thick sole sneakers. I'll leave that for the short guys. 😂 Reminds me of sketchers from the 2000s.

The sound of the sewing machine is actually quite soothing.
put me to sleep literally
Even though it's not my style they still look great. Always nice to see craftsmanship.

$15 in the 70's is $121.89 adjusted for inflation in 2024, so those those Vans your getting for ¥10000 don't seem so bad i guess.
Been wearing them my whole life lol I tell my nieces and nephews we wore them because we were poor kids..

Love the humor. 😊
Great craftmanship and great filmmaking. Pleasure to watch :)
*Turning $40 Vans into $10 heavy working boots ...*
amazing job but it looks kinda unfinished? a black paint on the borders of the sole would look much better, still and amazing job
i like them just like that , but on their website they have black borders
I didn't know anyone in Korea was doing this. I'm rooting for you
You think they don't wear shoes there?
I want one but without the last 3 bottom layers. Just the leather strips and the rugged sole. Looks so badass
damn some of those old machines are insane, so many moving parts. I'm sure it's not an easy thing to find replacement parts

@kylelaughinghouse1893 This guy sells them with no issue.
The fact he’s only doing this left handed…lm very impressed 😊😉
I could never afford these being a pensioner, but I love the finished product and the process. My sincere admiration for your talents!

Hello from France. You really do a magnificent job. I would love to learn this art.
How am I supposed to skate in these? Serious question
Those are not for skateboarding anymore, I do think Frankenstein's monster would love them though.
What an amusing adhesive container
How can we order this shoes and I really enjoyed watching the process of customization the shoes
Beautiful work but What is the purpose of changing to shoe??????
Give extra height to shorter guys self conscious about Van's thin soles
400 dollars feels like a steal for that kind of craftsmanship and creativity.
You’re right! I’d pay $1,000 for just one shoe!
Bro what did you do to those shoes!!????
He's got a wonderful talent!
Excellent work, awesome workshop.

Hello Sir, I watch your videos with great enthusiasm on UA-cam
Excellent work. Beautiful. God bless your hands and expertise.
Why nobody likes how it looks I think these are the coolest Vans I've ever seen 😭
Because there more sole than shoe
dude! you really did it well, very nice craft though
although i am not a fan of the final result, I still enjoying the process!
Beautiful craftsmanship. I just dont understand why....
Your videos are so interesting and your videography is excellent! Thank you for sharing with us! Lots more, please!
Good job on the sole man ,I like the press whit the side push ❤

Same here! Definitely a superior sole and great craftsmanship, but the original one looked way cleaner.
Please make more videos. I enjoyed watching the process. very cool shoes.
Those machines are amazing 😊😊

imagine skate boarding on that shoe will break your ankle.

The captions are priceless! umm... Phrasing!
I would upgrade the leather version instead of the canvas. Goodyear welting that would be more worthy.
skate shoes into hiking boots = interesting
That was oddly satisfying 😮
collabs officially with vans please 👌🏻
Rope laces would’ve went insane with these 🔥
cool process get going
That guy is so great at this. And those shoes are fresh!
i don't usually like the original one but i sure do like the custom♥
I prefer the originals
i like the original looks, but i enjoy watching how you do things..
It depends ;)
Cool. Makes me think that the original soles were very stable.
The detail and craftsmanship is amazing.👍💯
The ogs are dope but I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing these lol
In my country we called it replacing the sole
Now I have a need for a pair of his shoes.
I wonder if they flick good if you skate them? 😂
$40 van turned into 50LBS shoes
When I’m rich this will be one of the signs
Super Cool!!!!!
Very nice
bruh….u wrecked them
just found your channel bro
can you do some completely custom airforce 1s??
