As a former collegiate coach. You will easily get a scholarship at any D2 college and many D1 colleges ranked primarily those below Top 50.
Love your forehand, decent serves. Most importantly love your instincts to attack the net. That really cannot be taught easily.
    Swinging volleys are very good.
    Solid backhand!
Technique on backhand volley is not right, I think it’s the grip. But don’t hit conventional volleys. Swinging volleys are just fine. Footwork is good.
You will do well and get a great free education in the USA 🇺🇸
    Best of Luck.

I don't really see what's wrong with the backhand volley. I used to play Tennis semi-professionally and her technique seems ok to me. Perhaps her wrist is a bit wobbly at some point but other than that I don't know. Can anyone point it out so I (and anyone else) can improve it?

    • @benjigault9043

@@janshkreli2172 grip appears to be slightly changing to more of a backhand grip and the contact point is too far in front of her body, meaning too close to the net. She needs to keep the continental grip, pivot at the hips to get more should er turn, and let the head of the racquet head drop, or lay back, to more even with her left shoulder.... former college player, and coach, still coaching high level juniors for 20 years now... other strokes look solid, but I agree with above, that backhand volley could use some work

She hits with power with forehand or back hand. Very consistent compact swing. Well proportioned body, moves very well, solid and agile. I think we will be hearing more about Ms. Skegro in the future. Also needs to be said that on a lot of these demo videos the applicants coach makes it easy on them by hitting the ball to the middle of the Court almost every time. In this demo her coach/training partner seems to be moving her around the court quite a bit and challenging her which makes her play and strokes all the more impressive.

I like these promotional videos, they give some idea of a player's basic skills. Marina is obviously doing well. She also shows a little more variety in her shot-making than some of the other players in their videos.. Still, most of the players look easy meat for the specialist baseline players they will meet. It would be good to see them executing even more variety in their shot-making, if they are able to do that. For example, backhand and forehand slices, both attacking and defensive, and drop-shots, topspin lobs and other tools they will need to combat the ferocious baseliner.

Feb 8, 2022, she was selected by Charleston Southern University. EXCITING NEWS!!!
Head Coach Anca Dumitrescu and CSU Women’s Tennis Team are excited to announce the signing of Marina Skegro to the class of 2022!
The Zagreb, Croatia native has found much success on the court in her early career, including a national doubles championship at U16 and a finalist at U18. The list continues as Skegro was most recently a finalist at the J4 Siroki Brijeg tournament in singles and took home the hardware in the doubles competition in late January.
Skegro comes into the month with a singles ranking of 454 by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in the Junior Rankings.
"I am very excited to welcome Marina to our program in the fall," said Coach Anca Dumitrescu. "She is a very talented player, a great student and a great person. She will bring a lot of depth to our team as we look to get better and better each year!"

Just my observation and I am no expert by any means: The footwork and intensity looks great! Staying low, and always on the ball of her feet. The Open Stance FH return looks dynamic and great! If I wanted to be picky, I'd probably work with her on teh FH take-back to make it more compact: extend the elbow on take back, let if flow more. Otherwise, it looks good. The serve also looks good! She is between pin point and platform serve: Could possibly bring her right foot in, to make contact with left foot and kick off from there. But, over all it looks great! all in My opinion, and like I said, I am no expert - all though I am.... :)

YOu also have good awareness andn atural read and poise of the game, When you hit a good ball and the opposition is flat footed you come in and strike and go for a volley to take out the rally. Strenghts: Good timing on groundstrokes, good ability to take the ball on the rise and take time away from opponent, good return, good racket head speed especially on forehand, good first serve accuracy, good awareness to come to the net
Weaknesess/Things to improve to put it nicely: Relatively flat shots which reduces your ability to pull your openents wide off the court, low net clerance overall and no kick serve as a second serve can cost you dearly on big points and when playing under pressure. Slow footwork/agility, floating backhand slice and bachand volley. Lack of varierty, lots of ball bashing and no incentive to proactively change angle, height, depth or pace of ball.
Overall impression: Promising D2 tennis player

Solid game. Just based on the video, my bet is that you feel a bit streaky when you play. Great technique on the forehand but your swing path should be a bit more under the ball (with elbow control) and better extension. Your current swing path doesn't provide enough shape on the ball or provide the kind of heaviness you'll need to play D1 or beyond. Your backhand by far is what high level opponents are going to attack. You need to orient your shoulders a bit better (left over right) and extend through the shot. The unit turn could be cleaner with better racket positioning. My guess is that you tend to leave a lot of backhands sitting short and high (D1 players are going to open angles on you that are immediately going to put you in the defensive). Others have commented, but the backhand volley looks like you need to extend into the shot a bit more (it look like you have too much slicing action through the shot on a standard volley). My guess is that you feel like you lack put away power on the backhand volley and probably end more points with placement (drop volleys, angles) vs. crisp winners. I also imagine you make more errors on your backhand volleys vs. forehand. Your service game looks decent but you need to develop more of a kick-serve. There's some variability in your service technique which likely hurts your first serve consistency and placement. That's just repetition and practice. The serve kinetic chain doesn't look bad but you could definitely get some additional power if you can get a bit more from the leg drive (some on the comment board noted your foot position...that's something worth paying more attention to). Your return game looks decent but some of the ground stroke flaws are going to impact your return game as well. Big servers to your backhand are going to win a lot of easy points through unforced errors and 1-2 point construction. It's a great video, but the other dynamics that matter for high level competitive play are your mental game / attitude, work ethic, and physical conditioning. Maybe you can keep it together for an hour but can you play in 90 degree heat for 3 hours. These dimensions really matter ultimately to reaching the highest levels. You've got a great foundation and if you maintain a growth mindset I have no doubt you'll get what you want.

Being able to return that extremely low, extremely flat, and extreme fast ball in 4:08 meant you have athleticism, good reflexes, and skills. Often times, we have problems with balls that come straight at us, very low & very fast... because we have no great angles to work with & our reaction must be instantaneous & correctly executed. And those also are the balls, if we are able to return them, that earn us points: a very fast & very low balls from our opponents that are correctly returned, by us, are even faster & lower ball in their return journey, making it more difficult for our opponents to handle correctly.

Nice form and movement. Backhand volley seems a bit odd to me as it seems closer to the body compared to the forehand volley (which seemed conventional). This may be a next-gen thing though - I have trouble keeping up with the evolution of hypermodern technique. The guy hitting with her has a nice one-handed backhand.

I really like your movement. There's a saying in tennis, "beat the ball", which basically means to try and get into position when the ball bounces, so that you can focus your weight transfer. And what I see here looks really good. I see good technique on all strokes, and particularly liked your volleys, because you're consciously moving forward to put your weight into them. Smash is great, with an abbreviated take back, side on, and good timing. Serving is a little harder to comment on. I believe you're lacking some power on the serve. Overall, extremely good.
In saying that, scholarships are usually given to players with a UTR 8 or above, and you're already there, with some good wins over UTR 9's. I think you'll have no trouble at all to get a scholarship. Keep up the great work!

Hey Marina I hope you get scholarship as you've definitely got loads of potential, one thing that can be changed is when taking forehands at a ball near peak height, jumping off the ground and swivelling your body as you hit the shot will give the ball more pace and better direction. Footwork is absolutely excellent and overall groundstrokes are good. Keep grinding and much love I am 17 too and you've got a bright future - train hard and keep working on your technique you can make top 100 I'm serious ❤❤💪
