Great video, Sir. Thank you for posting. I remember visiting on one of our trips to Vegas many years ago. Given that I'm from the same town as Patrick Stewart I probably thought that made me the ancestor they were looking for.
God, I fucking love stuff like this. I almost can't get enough B-roll or BTS, especially uncut stuff like the Buffy BTS which was released raw for the fight choreography.
This is fantastic. How did you come across this video? I had a friend who lived in Vegas and we visited this attraction several times. It was absolutely spectacular to be fully immersed in the Star Trek universe. The Borg Encounter was fun, but it completely dropped the premise of transporting you to the future and it wasn't as good for this reason. It felt like a haunted house add-on, which is really what it was, and not a self-contained attraction like "Klingon Encounter" was. The brilliance of Klingon Encounter was how it subverted your expectations. The initial queue was clearly modeled after Star Tours at Disneyland, so if you had been on that ride you thought you knew what you were in for... Then you get beamed onto the Enterprise! I can't explain what a mind blowing experience that was. Then when the simulator ride comes at the end, you get a panoramic view out of the shuttle craft with windows in the ceiling, not just the little movie screen you get on Star Tours. The ride engineers clearly knew what they were doing, subverting expectations all along the way
@@devosentertainmentI met Brad in Santa Barbara when I was going to Brooks institute of photography. When he moved to LA I came for a visit and got a nice tour of the Star Trek sets.
I travel for work to Las Vegas and while the Experience was open always stayed at the hotel. Would ride three times in a row after a libation or two. Fun times!
I always assumed the Shuttle Bay wall was rebuilt from Star Trek V. Never would have guessed it's just a photographic blowup! :D Very clever with the staging.
Ridiculous that this wasn't maintained. Greatest Trek attraction, exhibit, ride. Ever. Of course over time, needs some updates, additions, changes to story, plot, but this was a Trekkers dream holodeck like experience. Visited 1998
Indeed. But Vegas as a whole failed in the “family friendly” attempt. This should have been the flagship attraction for Paramount’s theme parks, not a one off in an off-strip hotel. Regardless, we gave it our all building it and was heartbroken to see it die such an ugly death.
@@devosentertainment On point 👉 Ridiculous oversight by Trek IP owners, whoever that is at the moment 🙄 Head scratcher why Disney bought Star Wars. The Star Wars Universe is a dystopia, with the Empire/New Order/#NEXTEVILOVERLORDS constantly ruling the Galaxy. Not a place I want to live. The Trek Universe, at least Tos, tng eras, are where I want to live, occasional Klingon, Romulan, Dominion wars notwithstanding ;)
I remember going through this in LV. Was fantastic. The effect of standing in a square room queued to go on what we thought was a ride simulation only to have the light flicker go out and come back on in like 3 secs and be in the transporter room was mind-blowing.
Trek needs its own permanent attraction again. I was lucky enough to see this in 1999. The only time I ever got to go somewhere other than home for Spring Break in college.
When you see this, really make you appreciate the hardwork that really goes into these scenes... And I'm guessing whilst there doing these scenes, other scenes somewhere else are also being done. Quite eye opening to see this reality behind the show
A lot of work for sure! This a bit different than the show, however. Had to be much more exacting as it had to work in sync with the live action on the other side of the bridge screen.

I am from the UK. So very sad that "The Experience" was closed before I even knew it existed! Had I known, I would have sold anything I own to finance a trip to visit it! I don't imagine I'm alone in this regard. Makes me wonder why they didn't place ads in the breaks in UK reruns of Next-Gen to promote it. Seems like not much thought went into how to make it a lasting attraction and I read that when the hotel wanted their space (no pun intended) back it was just too expensive to move it all. There's a lesson there somewhere. If there was any whisper of it being re-done somewhere I'd be packing my bags right now.
All the practical shuttle sets they had to hand and they cobble together that monstrosity of a thing. LOL It's awesome to see the process though. I never got to visit the Star Trek Experience, but seen so many videos and pictures of it.
Last few seconds of this clip (library books part) gave me vibes of the Frame of Mind episode (Riker in psych institution yelling) and just going off yelling in his distressed emergency command voice
Thanks for this candid look "behind the camera." While I never got to experience the attraction in Vegas, I did get to work on the audio for a local student film project. What was shown in this video was a dead on representation of my first (and so far only) on set experience. I would have liked to have kept going, but my local area does not attract commercial cinema productions.

Thank you David for uploading this. I’m a big fan of TNG and enjoyed this thoroughly.
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed.
That was the greatest thing growing up was vacationing in Vegas just for this experience
Glad you got to experience it!
I went to this about 25 years ago and it was amazing.
Glad you got a chance to visit!
Very cool Dave!! thanks for sharing this
Glad you enjoyed!
I loved the Experience and Quark’s. They need to bring Trek back to Vegas.
Agreed
That would be so nice, I never got to see it! 😢 😊if not Vegas, they could make it part of the Paramount Studio tour 😃
I remember visiting on one of our trips to Vegas many years ago. Given that I'm from the same town as Patrick Stewart I probably thought that made me the ancestor they were looking for.
Haha. That’s awesome.
God, I fucking love stuff like this. I almost can't get enough B-roll or BTS, especially uncut stuff like the Buffy BTS which was released raw for the fight choreography.
😎
The ride engineers clearly knew what they were doing, subverting expectations all along the way
So glad you enjoyed the Experience. I’m the director in the video.
my buddy Brad working the slate. thank you for this.
Awesome!
@@devosentertainmentI met Brad in Santa Barbara when I was going to Brooks institute of photography. When he moved to LA I came for a visit and got a nice tour of the Star Trek sets.
Amazing, thanks for sharing, as a huge fan I enjoyed si much this series
😎👍
Brilliant just brilliant thank you so much for sharing this
My pleasure!
Great video. Title of this is perfect. Don’t change a thing!
Thanks!
I travel for work to Las Vegas and while the Experience was open always stayed at the hotel. Would ride three times in a row after a libation or two. Fun times!
@@MrBobisadog Always good after a libation or two! :)
I always assumed the Shuttle Bay wall was rebuilt from Star Trek V. Never would have guessed it's just a photographic blowup! :D Very clever with the staging.
😎
Ridiculous that this wasn't maintained.
Greatest Trek attraction, exhibit, ride. Ever.
Of course over time, needs some updates, additions, changes to story, plot, but this was a Trekkers dream holodeck like experience.
Visited 1998
Indeed. But Vegas as a whole failed in the “family friendly” attempt. This should have been the flagship attraction for Paramount’s theme parks, not a one off in an off-strip hotel. Regardless, we gave it our all building it and was heartbroken to see it die such an ugly death.
@@devosentertainment On point 👉
Ridiculous oversight by Trek IP owners, whoever that is at the moment 🙄
Head scratcher why Disney bought Star Wars. The Star Wars Universe is a dystopia, with the Empire/New Order/#NEXTEVILOVERLORDS constantly ruling the Galaxy. Not a place I want to live.
The Trek Universe, at least Tos, tng eras, are where I want to live, occasional Klingon, Romulan, Dominion wars notwithstanding ;)
love to see star trek voyager behind the scenes
I’ll see what I can find
So much work to record a simple scene. I can't even imagine recording one episode. "Engage !" 🎉🎉❤
So. Much. Work.
I remember going through this in LV. Was fantastic. The effect of standing in a square room queued to go on what we thought was a ride simulation only to have the light flicker go out and come back on in like 3 secs and be in the transporter room was mind-blowing.
Check out my other videos to see how we did it!
Did not expect jokes about Shatner's "hair". lol
This is really cool.
Haha
Did the ride in 02. Cool to see this
Glad you enjoyed!
While I was on Rise of the Resistance at Disney World all I could think of was this!
Right??
Trek needs its own permanent attraction again. I was lucky enough to see this in 1999. The only time I ever got to go somewhere other than home for Spring Break in college.
When you see this, really make you appreciate the hardwork that really goes into these scenes... And I'm guessing whilst there doing these scenes, other scenes somewhere else are also being done. Quite eye opening to see this reality behind the show
A lot of work for sure! This a bit different than the show, however. Had to be much more exacting as it had to work in sync with the live action on the other side of the bridge screen.
This is old and lovely, way cool.
Glad you enjoyed!
Old? You're funny. When you get pubic hair and move out of mommy's house you'll eventually realise that things which happened before you were alive really aren't old.
Thanks for this, great insight
My pleasure
Frakes, Burton, and a lot of the TNG/Voyager crew came in on a Saturday to film this. Directed by Dave DeVos of Landmark Entertainment.
Grateful for everyone’s hard work!
Jonathan Frakes seems like such a lovely person 🥰 I bet he gives good hugs hehe 😊 And Levar looking like a cutie pie in his overalls 😂
I’m so sad that I’m late to the Star Trek fandom and missed seeing this 😭😭😭
🖖🏻😎
I really wish they would offically release all these Trek Experience "films" somehow, someplace. It is unlikely they'll ever find a home elsewhere. (also include the TNG Comic Relief short from 1994).
It would be cool. I posted the film here as well.
Thanks Dave I did the experience in Vegas and it is one of the coolest moments I my life, And I miss quarks bar.
I’m glad you got to experience it!
Levar looks so damned young here, almost like a kid!
The overalls help the look. :)
I saw ST Experience in Vegas in 1999 or 2000. Really well-done effects!
Glad you saw it!
Thanks very much for posting these, Dave!
😎👍
Thank you for uploading this…🎥📸
Glad you enjoyed it!
running a camera was fun. this is how it is. changes retakes mistakes conversations headset instructions you cant respond to.. but truely fun & worth it.
The life we chose! 😎👍
14:14 Oh that's interesting. Did they switch that footage in when we hit 2000??
Great question! I honestly don’t remember.
Was so happy I got to go b4 they shut it down , such a great experience loads of fun
Glad you got to experience it!
Very cool.. Thanks for this!! :D
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed.
I remember that dude...! I saw THE FIFTH ELEMENT at the Cinerama with him...
I remember that!
Fingers crossed the Intakes guy is able to do something with these. Especially the voiceover audio. 😅
I was editing it all anyway. Worked out great!
@@devosentertainment I am referring to the UA-cam channel 'Ryan's Edits' where he takes Star Trek bloopers and inserts them into the actual scenes. He calls them 'Intakes' instead of 'Outtakes' -- Quite funny!
@@alextirrellRI Oh, got it. Funny. I’ll check it out.
I like the work into the feel of the scenes mr riker.
🖖🏻
This was fascinating! Thanks for publishing this! TNG is the best!
👍
Fascinating!
I see what you Spocked there. 🖖😐
We just press play, but look at all the effort behind it all.. I had no idea it was this intense if you add the actual shoots and reshoots for just a simple scene that's over in the blink of an eye.
A lot of work for sure!
Thanks for sharing this. Where was this filmed, was it at Paramount? I wish we could see the video from inside the shuttlecraft that was always the coolest thing.
Yes, on the Paramount lot. And as for that other thing…lemme see what I can dig up 😎
@@devosentertainmenthat is very kind of you. I never did get to see the Star Trek experience, it would be amazing if we could see that here as well as this excellent makings of video.
I wish I could transport you back to 1987!
All the practical shuttle sets they had to hand and they cobble together that monstrosity of a thing. LOL
It's awesome to see the process though.
I never got to visit the Star Trek Experience, but seen so many videos and pictures of it.
It was a chore for sure. Herman Zimmerman was the best.
"So I'm just over here doin' shit?" Yes, Lavar, that's pretty much the essence of your character.
Hahaha
Last few seconds of this clip (library books part) gave me vibes of the Frame of Mind episode (Riker in psych institution yelling) and just going off yelling in his distressed emergency command voice
Ha. Totally.
really cool to watch
Glad you enjoyed!
Wow. 1AD Jerry Fleck ! Best 1AD ever . My favorite of all time for sure
Loved Jerry!
Set life is pretty much the same wherever you are. Hope you get another chance if you enjoy it!
Only visited once while it was in operation, stil remember that speech by Mr. Frakes.
Cool!
This is awesome to see!
Glad you enjoyed!
Wow, superb. Thank you. Congratulations on your career.
Thank you!
Wow. I just now found out about this experience and I’m sad to have not known this earlier. I would have loved to have gone to Vegas to go through this experience. I wish they would bring this back again or at least move it to Hollywood or in another location in SoCal
Sorry you weren’t able to experience it. Hopefully someday something even better will arise! We sure had fun building it.
@@devosentertainment I live in Los Angeles so I had no idea about the experience so it’s not your fault. Hopefully there will be another of these in the future whether in Vegas or SoCal
One shot, so many takes, my god how do actors stay sane?
I wonder how any of us stay sane
@@devosentertainment ...do we...? ;)
What a great insight! Thank you. I have a technical question, how is the live view for displaying on a monitor done on these old film cameras?
There is a small video camera in the viewfinder that feeds the playback monitors.
@@devosentertainment Thank you! i didnt think of the viewfinder.
