Michael Stripe was a friend of Kurt Cobain. He once joked in an interview that Kurt sang "yeah, yeah" so many times in Nirvana songs that he decided to beat him at it, that's why he sang 54 "yeahs" in this song.
It wasn't written for the movie, as it came out about 7 years before. But it was used in the movie. Now their song' The Great Beyond' was written for the movie.
I went all the way through school and Hebrew school with Andy. This song always makes me cry and smile at the same time. May his memory be for a blessing. Loving your show here in Neo-Tropical Costa Rica
Andy Kaufman did an incredible Elvis impersonation. So good that Elvis himself said he was the best he ever seen. It's here on UA-cam. Jim Carey was a huge Andy fan and got robbed of an Oscar portraying him in man on the moon.
I can still remember where i was when first hearing the song. I was stopping at my grandparents for the weekend when this had it's tv premiere on the ITV chart show, on a Saturday morning. I can still picture myself sat on the floor, infront of the TV. 91-92, right? I'm sure I'd have been 12 year's old at the time.
REM means rapid eye movement, but in his rock & roll hall of fame speech, lead singer said that his grandmother said that it means Remember Every Moment, which i thought was so sweet. Actually REM and the B-52's have one thing in common, they both formed in Athens, GA in the late 70s and early 80s.
Do Texarkana! Excellent bass line. In fact, the bassist, Mike Mills, sings the lead on it instead of Michael Stipe. Mills also wrote the song (it is credited to all 4 band members, though). Great driving song.
This song came out in 1992 when Danny Devito was getting the movie "Man on the Moon" together and getting ideas this song was very popular and always on the radio. The film production company approached R.E.M. to score the movie and to use this song and its title for the film. They also wrote another original song " The Great beyond" for the film and soundtrack (awesome music video BTW) which is also about Andy kaufman. I think the Man on the Moon movie was released in 1999. You really should also watch the music video to this fantastic song.
Yeah, this song is from the Jim Carrey movie about Andy Kaufman. Love the song. Especially the yeahs in the backing vocals they added during the last few repetitions of the chorus for some weird reason.
REM has some great heavier songs, also. Orange Crush being one of the heavier ones, from the album Green. Their album Automatic For the People, which is a scaled back, slowed down "acoustic" album is absolutely incredible.
I love R.E.M!!!!!!! They were awesome ❤❤❤. Love you guys too❤❤❤. Love y'all's shirts. Y'all are amazing ❤️❤️❤️. Y'all are funny as shit. Lol lot of Love ❤❤❤
Never been the biggest R.E.M. fan but I always love this song because I LOVE Andy Kaufman so much! One of my favorite comedians ever! He was so niche and amazing! That movie with Jim Carrey is amazing too! I gotta revisit that! Great reaction y'all!
Check out any of the songs off thier album Life's Rich Pageant. They are all great-IMO its by far thier best album--Fall on Me, Cuyahoaga, Begin the Begin, even Underneath the Bunker...all fantastic. it may be a bit less polished than their later stuff, but the writing and arrangements were very good.
All great tunes have the same thing in common. The “meaning” is secondary and up to the listener. How it sounds is what’s most important. If your about meaning,I’d recommend poetry and literature…
The opening lyric - 'Mott the Hoople' were a British rock group from the 1970's. They had a big hit with 'All the young dudes' written by David Bowie which is well worth reacting to. If you don't believe that they put a man on the moon then there's no hope for y'all! Cheers.
No Tropic of Leo, guys. Tropic of Cancer is the northernmost latitude to have the sun directly overhead and Tropic of Cancer is the southernmost. So the sun’s direct rays stay between those two latitudes creating our tropical zone.
I thought I'd leave another suggestion for another band. I believe you've reacted to once before (I may be mistaken) but if interested. "The Tragically Hip - Ahead By A Century (Official Music Video)" (by the channel: The Tragically Hip) --This song was released on their fifth studio album which was released in 1996 called "Trouble at the Henhouse" 😆 It's a classic tune that has left a lasting impact on fans and music enthusiasts alike. And as always, I enjoyed rocking with you two, thanks for sharing. peace out~
You guys need to check out their earlier stuff before they went pop - it really rocked. It's The End Of the World as we Know It, The One I Love, Fall On Me, Begin the Begin, Orange Crush and Perfect Circle are all choice tunes
@CSmith6887 at the same time as the weasel 😀. They moved from an independent to a major label about the time of Green I think. I would say they got a bit more accessible and commercial sounding from Out Of Time onwards - personally not such a big fan of that album or Automatic, although Monster was a bit of a return to form (at least the form I preferred)
@daneng3641 all their singles were catchy, but that's in the nature of singles. But there's a big difference between Radio Free Europe and Shiny Happy People in my eyes. I define pop, in this context, as not rock. They were a raw, guitar driven rock band with poppy moments at first. They went to a singer-driven pop band with string sections in every other song and occasional rocky moments. Still a cut above bit not so much for independent radio and much more for the mainstream
Please react to REM's 'What's The Frequency, Kenneth?'. It's my favourite song from their 1994 album Monster, which sees the band implementing loud fuzzy, distorted guitar tones, a drastic shift from the acoustical sounds of their 2 previous albums Out of Time (1991) and Automatic for the People (1992). Even the band initially wanted Automatic to sound hard-rocking.
R.E.M stands for Rapid Eye Movement just saying lol. Great reaction good song. You guys stay awesome and real and cool. Love ya guys Hollywood and Smokey. Deuces always
A coworker of mine is the son of Apollo astronaut Jim Irwin who went to the moon. I believe it with all my heart. I wasn't there with them, but I believe it for sure.
REM would close their show with this song..the audience was all in. Saw them at Madison Square Garden. The place was wild when they played this. An all out sing a long!!

Public Enemy - "Harder Than You Think" (lyric breakdown) Michael Franti and Spearhead - "Good To Alive Today" (lyric breakdown)
YMCA definitely a religious company. But they don't care if you're religious and you wanna work out there. That's my favorite of all gyms, even though I'm not religious. Just because they don't play that obnoxious music while I work out and I can listen to my own music. You know, like rappers, react and all that stuff.😊💪
One of my favorites R.E.M song is "it's the end of the world"(as we know it) still relevant lirics on it also I still trying to sing along over that song without screwed it up myself lol.
lol showing my age but I would have asked about the title as Neil Armstrong was the first..... As for men landing on the moon the Indian moon orbiter took pictures of 2 of the Apollo landers like 3 days ago.
Morning guys, such a great song and fun reaction...next from REM please do Night Swimming, so beautiful ✨💙🌌🌙 And now im pretty sure we need an in depth lyrical analysis of perhaps The Best Disco get your ass to the roller rink and boogie down songs of all time, Y.M.C.A. The Village People!! 🕺🌟💃🛼♥️
he definitely has a highly recognizable voice. and yes, we put a man on the moon. more precisely: you did. slight emphasis on the 'did'-part because lately the us is relying more on russian and european rocket technology. no need to be defensive about it, its not a matter of faith. if someone stripped butt naked in a shopping mall you would have evidence without having to look to hard even if you were not there (in all propability the information would be catered to you if you were living in the area where it happened). it is implausible for humans to fake all the evidence like radio signals receivable world wide with the correct time delay (moon - earth, time delay varies ever so slightly around the world because earth is essentially a space-ball with a somewhat chubby mid-section) and also keep quiet about faking it. the soviet union never (to my knowledge) contested it and they were pretty much to the us what the republican party is to the democratic party today. the people who deny it are usually the type that have evidence that the earth is flat and balanced on the back of a turtle, tell you the world is secretly gouverned by the rothschilds and want to talk to you urgently about the benefits of crypto currency. jk, i wouldnt know any of them. Among singers that i wouldnt mistake for any other are ella fitzgerald, freddy mercury, ... but somewhat fitting to the subject and my suggestion to you: David Bowie - Space Oddity
R.E.M stands for Random Eye Movement. Michael Stipe, the lead singer, picked it randomly from the dictionary when the band couldn't decide on a new name.
haha, i feel you. for me it was mostly that the wrong kind of people liked them when they became popular. the music and presentation justify their popularity.
It’s a cart and horse thing… The song came out first and when the time came to make a movie, they basically said well there’s no way we can pass this up and use the song because it fit perfectly and hence they decided to name the movie, the same as the song…
Michael Stripe was a friend of Kurt Cobain. He once joked in an interview that Kurt sang "yeah, yeah" so many times in Nirvana songs that he decided to beat him at it, that's why he sang 54 "yeahs" in this song.

Please tell some stories!
Rapid Eye Movement. R.E.M. Sleep

91-92, right?
I'm sure I'd have been 12 year's old at the time.
Kaufman's character with the accent was known as Foreign Man and he used that accent on Taxi when he was Latka...
The grandmother that 'Try not to breathe' was about, which always makes me cry
"radio free europe" and " So. Central rain ( I'm sorry" are geat songs by REM.
Night Swimming ain't bad either
Do Texarkana! Excellent bass line. In fact, the bassist, Mike Mills, sings the lead on it instead of Michael Stipe. Mills also wrote the song (it is credited to all 4 band members, though). Great driving song.
Simply one of the greatest bands of all time.
Andy Kaufman was a genius.
This song came out in 1992 when Danny Devito was getting the movie "Man on the Moon" together and getting ideas this song was very popular and always on the radio. The Great Beyond is my wife's favorite R.E.M. song
Yeah, this song is from the Jim Carrey movie about Andy Kaufman. Love the song. Especially the yeahs in the backing vocals they added during the last few repetitions of the chorus for some weird reason.
The song is older than the movie
The yeahs are because Stipe wanted to write a song with more yeahs in it than Kurt Cobain
REM has some great heavier songs, also. Orange Crush being one of the heavier ones, from the album Green.
Their album Automatic For the People, which is a scaled back, slowed down "acoustic" album is absolutely incredible.
I love REM. ONE OF MY Top 5❤. Michael is beautiful writer and singer!
R.E.M. Atlanta connection is one of Thom Yorks(Radiohead) favourite bands…
Check out orange crush by R.E.M
REM is one of the best of all time. So many classic songs
Andy is Andy Kaufman. He was beloved by R.E.M. ❤
R.E.M. Rapid Eye Movement. awesome song! i saw Andy Kaufman wrestle a few times!
“Andy, are you goofing on Elvis? "Hey, baby"
When he says ‘hey baby’ like Elvis is so great lol
I love R.E.M!!!!!!! They were awesome ❤❤❤. Love you guys too❤❤❤. Love y'all's shirts. Y'all are amazing ❤️❤️❤️. Y'all are funny as shit. Lol lot of Love ❤❤❤
Hey guys, really enjoy your reactions, and an all your commentary. I like intelligent young people. You guys are great!
Hollywood- LOVE THE T-SHIRT!❤
Never been the biggest R.E.M. fan but I always love this song because I LOVE Andy Kaufman so much! One of my favorite comedians ever! He was so niche and amazing! That movie with Jim Carrey is amazing too! I gotta revisit that! Great reaction y'all!
You are the best reaction duo on front.
You haven’t done “Shiny, Happy People” yet, right? I always liked that one and it has a special guest. 😊
Check out any of the songs off thier album Life's Rich Pageant. Rapid eye movement
When your eyes do freaky things when you're sleeping
Means you're dreaming
r.e.m. is the abbreviation for "rapid eye movement" - the physical phenomenon that occurs when a person begins to dream.
Rapid Eye Movement. It occurs during dreams.
I definitely know this song. This is such a great song from such a great band. 😊🎉❤
R. E . M . ❤ !
The opening lyric - 'Mott the Hoople' were a British rock group from the 1970's. They had a big hit with 'All the young dudes' written by David Bowie which is well worth reacting to. If you don't believe that they put a man on the moon then there's no hope for y'all! Cheers.
Veterans,
0 > 22 🙏🏻💙🙏
Though it's never going to be enough, thank for the many sacrifices.
Love y'all. Land of The Free BECAUSE of The Brave!
Try REMs song Stand(In the Place Where You Were)
No Tropic of Leo, guys. Tropic of Cancer is the northernmost latitude to have the sun directly overhead and Tropic of Cancer is the southernmost. So the sun’s direct rays stay between those two latitudes creating our tropical zone.
This was Kurt Cobain's favorite band.
Remember every moment

end of the world as we know it
R.E.M 💛 🌑
You guys need to check out their earlier stuff before they went pop - it really rocked. It's The End Of the World as we Know It, The One I Love, Fall On Me, Begin the Begin, Orange Crush and Perfect Circle are all choice tunes
When did they go pop?
@CSmith6887 at the same time as the weasel 😀. They moved from an independent to a major label about the time of Green I think. I would say they got a bit more accessible and commercial sounding from Out Of Time onwards - personally not such a big fan of that album or Automatic, although Monster was a bit of a return to form (at least the form I preferred)
They didn't go pop. Pop went REM for a few years. They always wrote catchy songs.
@daneng3641 all their singles were catchy, but that's in the nature of singles. But there's a big difference between Radio Free Europe and Shiny Happy People in my eyes. Just as you never know whether Andy Kaufman is serious or joking, it's not easy to guess what Michael Stipe is singing about :)
The movie was based on this song. The song came out in 1992, the movie came out in 1998 or 1999 if i remember correctly.
they play this all the time at my job
R.E.M stands for Rapid Eye Movement just saying lol. Great reaction good song. You guys stay awesome and real and cool. Love ya guys Hollywood and Smokey. Deuces always
Crush with Eyeliner.
Really. Enjoy. Music 🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
Anyone out there from Toronto Canada? They closed down Yonge St about 20 years ago for an REM concert. Was an amazing day.
I absolutely remember that, I'm not from Toronto, but Fort Erie, It was great. I remember it like yesterday!
R.E.M one of the most creative bands in the history of rock, please react to their song ''it's the end of the world''
A coworker of mine is the son of Apollo astronaut Jim Irwin who went to the moon. I believe it with all my heart. I wasn't there with them, but I believe it for sure.
Great song, cool band! Next, check out Can’t Get There From Here, released in 85. Great bass line! ✌️
I wouldn’t have guessed they were from Georgia. Idk why but I thought they were from one of the New England states.
I knew you were from Georgia when you dropped the Winn-Dixie reference 🛒
YMCA. In our household it stands for “Yesterday’s Muck Cooked Again” (leftovers from previous nights meal.)
You are very funny. REM is remember every moments.
REM would close their show with this song..the audience was all in. Saw them at Madison Square Garden. The place was wild when they played this. An all out sing a long!!
Public Enemy -

(lyric breakdown)
Check out the official video - its really cool.
Now you got to do The Great Beyond! 🤘
💖
Andy Kaufman & jerry lawler. Jerry just got cut from WWE
'Just a gym' is incorrect. That is only 1/3 of what the YMCA does. Youth development, social programs, etc. Mostly behind the scenes.
The “trick” to it is to NOT think about it, as soon as I think it’s gone! (some SOAD are the same for me).
Watch the Man on the Moon Documentary about JIm Carey he stayed in Andy's character entire filming
New FIR song out called Ronald
Next R.E.M. song you need to do is "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?"
lol showing my age but I would have asked about the title as Neil Armstrong was the first..... As for men landing on the moon the Indian moon orbiter took pictures of 2 of the Apollo landers like 3 days ago.
There's a game to play while listening to this song, how many times he says yeah.
Morning guys, such a great song and fun reaction...next from REM please do Night Swimming, so beautiful ✨💙🌌🌙

David Bowie - Space Oddity
They did Space Oddity 😊
Do more of The B-52s if you're looking for bands from Georgia!! They're amazing! Give Me Back My Man! Cindy Wilson is smooth as hell
' Borat ', from a Russian language speaking
country of ' Kazakhstan '
React to “ Frantic Disembowelment (Guitar, Bass & Drums)” From Cannibal Corpse.. Thank You
You guys should react to Ronald by falling in reverse
you should checkout Girl on the Moon By Foreigner )))))))) awesome
✌🏻😸✌🏻
I was always told ymca was young men's catholic association
But Hollywood..... you a Sandpaper just like the rest of us in SC! 🤷🏻♂️
Rapid eye movement.
YMCA, Ik that ' Boy Scouts are changing 🤦🏻
R.E.M stands for Random Eye Movement. Michael Stipe, the lead singer, picked it randomly from the dictionary when the band couldn't decide on a new name.
Isn’t it Rapid Eye Movement?
Yes, it's Rapid.@@grant49
Rapid
Yeah it's rapid eye movement
It happens during hard sleep
I'm guessing most of you already knew this

Remember all the flack Andy Kaufman got from wrestling women.... Who knew it would become a reality.
Rem sucks bros..and im from atl, but thats me in a corner...
haha, i feel you. for me it was mostly that the wrong kind of people liked them when they became popular. the music and presentation justify their popularity.
Too much talking guys...waste of time.

You want an REM banger? Oddfellows Local 151. Fire Houssssssssssse!
