- What's Up, Doc? (1972) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #WhatsUpDoc
Carefree, eccentric Judy Maxwell (Barbra Streisand) has a suitcase with an encyclopedia and a nightgown--and eyes for repressed, eccentric Howard Bannister (Ryan O'Neal). Howard has a suitcase full of igneous rocks to prove an esoteric musical theory and an overly proper fiancée named Eunice (Madeline Kahn). None of them know Mr. Smith (Michael Murphy), who has a suitcase full of top-secret government documents and a nefarious man tailing him. Add another suitcase full of jewels, a crooked hotel detective and a jealous musicologist.
Directed By Peter Bogdanovich
Starring Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal, Madeline Kahn

This is one of my favorite scenes from this movie. She looks so freaking beautiful and sings great. I love her hair and tanned glow.
And her smile. I wish I were Howard
She was beautiful. I wanted to look and sound like her when I was a kid. Such talent and beauty!
Stunning!
@capasau capasau qun burritu sa jujau so do I
Dear God, she was something else back then.
I wish she would have done the entire song...OMG that was great!
for someone who wasn't considered conventionally beautiful, Barbra was looked absolutely GORGEOUS in this movie
I’ve always thought she was beautiful
She has this girl next door flerty, sensual effect on men and then she starts singing .... love a new!
The eyes, the hair, the lips, and the voice of an angel. Beautiful woman.
I agree. I thought she was so beautiful as a kid and wanted to look like her.
At her most beautiful I think.... 💜💜💜💜
Damn Ryan was FINE THO 😮😋😋😋😋😂
... and her mother told her she was not pretty enough for the business
Sebastian Wendel obviously she was very wrong!
Rest In Peace Dr. Banister this movie was my all time favorite when I was a child.
I was 9 in 1972. My mom dropped us off at the one movie theatre in town to watch "What's Up Doc." My mom, my friends and I assumed the film would be a Buggs Bunny cartoon. I was bummed when no cartoon appeared. Then, out of nowhere, this exotic, beautiful, sexy tidal wave of a woman crossed the street, wreaked havoc and proceeded to completely electrify the screen in every scene. I sat there glued to her every move. I've never gotten over what happened to me that afternoon.
I would also be in the camp that thinks she's sexy.
If only movies like these would be made today
Sam Wharton - Please keep telling! The same thing happened to me when I saw Barbra on film for the first time. C’mon! You tell yours and I’ll tell mine 😛
Beautiful story💖😁🙏
What was your friend’s reaction?
The best Streisand has ever looked in a movie.
Oh my lord, is Barbara Streisand gorgeous.
RIP Ryan O’Neal. You gave a brilliant, underrated performance in this film, one of my all-time favorites that defined my childhood. I hope you’re in Farrah’s arms now.
God, she's gorgeous!!!
very charismatic women that embraced or looks n never looked back...the confidence charisma did the rest....
an internal beauty/confidence....with the shape of her nose confidence level cld have been in the negative....but had a charisma that she never opposed or got in her own way...
Yes she really is
Her pitch is beyond phenomenal WOW
A brilliant film. Streisand is gorgeous, her voice incredible, wonderful chemistry with Ryan O'Neal and her star quality could light up an entire city 👍
Love this scene. Always felt she was the most beautiful woman.
Barbara was too adorable in this picture.
Streisand was at her most beautiful in this film. Stunning goddess.
I was 12 when this movie came out. I melted for this man named Howard Bannister.
I was 8. Same!
The scene in the bathroom when his shirt is off and pants down. I was 6 or 7 and immediately mesmerized. Was my perfectly natural and god-given reaction -- definitely born this way!
Such an exotic beauty back then, her beautiful blues eyes, the lips, and that long hair was so gorgeous.
Only 11 when I saw it at the theater, but still have very fond memories to this day.
RIP Peter. Thank you for making my all time favourite comedy. Nothing compares. 💜
I had one hell of a crush on her when I was a kid!
hands off... my nine year old self has dibs !!!
I was totally smitten as a kid. I remember thinking, "How did he resist her for so long?!"
Me too 🙋.... 😜
I still got a crush on her.
@@melindatranslations797 So do I! 😉
Streisand best female singer ever if not best ever period
@@Fatdog-Dakind Celine is a bellower, Streisand used crescendo. Celine is very robotic lyrically. Streisand had a unique phrasing.
Can't believe Babs was already in her 30s in this movie. She looked great!
Tress Braga - I thought the same! I mean, she could easily pass as a teenager in that movie! Amazing genes! 😱
She was 29 when they filmed it. It was actually released a month before she turned 30. But, even so; this was her sexiest and most knockout period of her life.
Really 😮🤔she looks 24to 27... Ish ... 🤷
It's beyond that her facial expressions and wit make everything
Babs never looked better on film than in What's Up Doc?
Agreed. 2nd place goes to “Up The Sandbox”, which followed “What’s Up Doc?” Unfortunately, nobody saw it! However, she is radiant in it, and her acting is understated and sublime.
Prince of Tides.
She’s the whole package... you just see/hear Barbra.. all of a piece. Like garland and bette. You just see them.
That voice is one of a handful all time greats
One of the funnest, best movies in the history of movies!!
she looked so amazing in this movie sounds perfect so funny and all those lines she remembered AMAZING
Such a classic movie, I love it!
Streisand has been my favorite singer since 1973, and though I've never cared for her as an actress, she was perfect in this movie and absolutely beautiful.
If Mr. O'Neal's passing has a bright side, it might be that more people will discover this wonderful movie... or re-watch it in memoriam. 💎
Guilty pleasure time. I remember as a small boy getting the "FILM 73 Annual" which accompanied the Uk TV series and seeing Streisand (on the front cover I think?) in the same pose she has in the beginning of this scene, leant on her side with her head resting on her hand and I recall telling my mum that I thought she looked really "pretty". Truth is, I still think that frame shows BS at her absolute zenith as a woman... Those eyes, the skin tone, those lips. She has a voice of an angel and a sense of humour... Thank goodness for film. I'll always be able to see her at her best
What a fabulous woman
When I was 16 my mom was working as an extra on the movie WHATS UP DOC. I was seriously
in love with Streisand - imitating her night & day - playing her albums until everyone was screaming to turn her off.
Anyway I begged to go to the set at the St. Francis Hotel - 6am and spent 10 hours there - we befriended Johnny Weissmuller Jr. who entertained us with stories all day long about living with the crazy chimp his father adopted - he knew I was there to see Barbara - who we spotted now & then with her entourage trailing her in long lines … he took me UP the escalator to the top of the hotel. Midway, Streisand got on with Ryan O’Neil and Peter Bogdanovich - I remember she was telling a joke.
We reached the top of the St. Francis where a small camera crew filmed Barbara laying on a piano with Ryan - while doing the impression of Bogart from Casablanca - I sat there for hours - which was typical in the movie business (film a tiny sequence over & over). There were only three other extras (one woman knitting) and I watched her.

her voice is so silky here,so pretty 🌸🌸🌸
Has there ever been an actress who has been simultaneously so sexy and funny as Streisand in this? Name her.
Teri Garr in Young Frankenstein
Marilyn Monroe
Jim David
Marilyn Monroe in "Some Like It Hot", sang, danced, exuded sex appeal for YEARS. This scene is genius as well. Rita Hayworth in Gilda is brilliant, too.
@Scanman Productions 100% agree, & Madeline Kahn too
Jean Harlow.
Wow she was so beautiful back then
Still is...
Barbra wasn’t considered classically beautiful - by her critics. The rest of us knew her beauty was a billion times better than their idea of classical. I can’t get enough of this scene; Ryan’s reaction to her wasn’t acting.
She is so insanely beautiful
the best scene in a fantastic movie. edit - RIP Peter Bogdanovich
R.I.P. to Peter B. A great director..
Ahh filmed at the then new Hilton (Hotel) Tower in San Francisco. They were just finishing the top floor restaurant.
I have a friend who is a manger at the Hilton. He took me up to the restaurant to show me the views and mentioned this scene. Just a bit of change between 1972 and 2019 :)
@@dawsonl The lobby is on the opposite side of the hotel now however and the gift shop and the old lobby are gone. I stayed at the hotel in 1974 and again in 1976 when it looked just like in the film and then again in 2015 after it's extensive remodeling.
The most beautiful girl in the world, I fell in love with her when I saw this movie, now 50 years later, I am still in love.
Barbra's best look which she has now returned to. Can't believe she replaced it with that horrifying perm.
Never understood the perm, but she did look good in a Star is Born.
I love this movie, I laughed my butt off. This scene is so sexual it is funny.
Young Babs was Hot. 30 Years Old Here!! Saw this On TCM Tonight!!
My favorite Barbra
Beautiful lady.
Epic scene 😍
God what a voice!!!
One of the great comic performances of all time. And she still dazzled alongside scene-stealing comics like Madeleine Kahn. It's a shame she only ever did a handful of worthwhile comedies (Funny Girl, Owl & The Pussycat, Dolly, Doc). Her late career efforts (Mirror & the lamentable Focker movies) are best forgotten.
And “The Main Event” again with Ryan, a great comedy..❤️
@@rhondaforbes5418 The Main Event is mediocre at best.
@@ozvoyager That’s your opinion, I think it’s a great movie..
@@rhondaforbes5418 No, seriously--it IS Mediocre.
To be honest, I think Whats Up Doc was Kahn's first big movie.
I don't know if Ryan O Niel was playing that piano but Streisand was making that song into a masterpiece.
Cool! Casablanca🙂 I love it.
And also a current Warner Bros. Pictures fanfare since 1999.
Love this movie, so funny
Priceless🤗🌟💘
Priceless
A perfect scene.
Saw this scene years ago...long back when I didn't know who Ryan O'Neal was.
Fun facts: As Time Goes By, a love theme from Casablanca (1942) used also as a fanfare of current Warner Bros. Pictures since 1999.
She was SO sexy in this film…..I wonder if she is aware just how gorgeous she was!!
Recentemente ho visto questo film davvero divertente e con un ritmo vertiginoso. Viene citata una celebre battuta "Amare significa non dover mai dire: mi dispiace".
What an awesome, classic movie WITH AN ALL STAR CAST!!! and; BARBARA THE JINX GETS HER MAN!! Don't you know the meaning of propriety??? lol rip MK MA
My favorite!! Just Love her!
Ryan O'Neal was really very handsome... what a shame he appears to be such a chump! Barbra flawless
Check out the 'Oh God-' scene from Tough Guys Don't Dance!
I love it....
I never realized until years later how much Babs in this scene looked like a girl I had a major thing for in high school.
I remember watching this alone at noon on Saturday, and had to retell the whole movie to my brother and to whoever he said! It was no problem really.was Milton Berle in it somewhere?this is the screwball comedy moment where they both fall down in the mud, start laughing then realise they're in love and kiss.its a very sweet scene really,I guess but I was just tripping out on all that hair!!!!!and clean!!!!!!
Very old 🗝️🗝️ memories
Babs was such a goddess...
Babs, the one! ❤️
Just look at Barbra-her whole life ahead of her. She probably wanted that profile of her face and nose JUST TO SHOW THEM. She’s an OG.
0:34 Man she looks really good in this scene. I was 10 in 1972 and had a crush on her lol.
I LOVE YOU.....EUNICE BURNS. 2022. 👌🇺🇸👌💖
Ryan Oneill was so cute
I had a major, major crush on him!!! I was 12 when this movie came out.
I would say he was lucky for playing this scene with her and getting paid for it
Barbra's channeling Marcia Brady realness with this look.
Anyone know where I can find a piano sheet music for this?
I wonder how much the value of that apartment appreciated since 1972…
Lol I'm sure it went through roof😂🤣
What’s funny is when I hear few bars before each WB movie, I think of this scene, not Casablanca.
If she ever did that to me, I’d lose it, and I’ve been playing piano 30years, you can’t not look at her.
I’d totally lose it to, she’s so gorgeous I can’t take my eyes off her
Barbara had a confidence/charisma.......but oneal was a super hotie in his youth.....the women he must have bedded with little ease back then from barbara to Diana ross n the list goes on n on....n then his BFF lee majors asked him to keep an eye on farrah while he was on location n the rest become history....
Butter…
There is something really alluring about BS,in this film.(and she smoked a lot of pot, which makes her very cool too)
She smoked?
She talked about it relaxing her and even lit up a faux joint on stage when performing at The Forum in LA in '72.
uuh gorgeous!!! Her eyes, lips.. wooh
Yes so gorgeous
RYAN R:IP yeah and Peter Bogdanovich of course
What's the chord after Cm7?
A kiss is just a kiss💋💋💋💋💋💋👄 im singing this to U!!!!!!! 👼🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵 on that u can rely......
Barbra looks like Jennifer Aniston and JLaw...but they don't have the heavenly voice!
Well, technically, they’d look like her…she was first :-). Lol. I don’t see it that much, cool if you do.
She looks so gorgeous here and he so handsome and hot! They would've made a good couple.
:)
i wonder did michelle pfeiffer ever watch this movie
Demi Moore also sang this song in a movie called "No Small Affair" with Jon Cryer ….it was rather a B movie but she was ok .
UTUBE SMILE BY JOHN BAVAS
She never looked better
Sorry guys, only in the movies will you ever see a romantic encounter with a woman like this.
Oh, like a few years ago when I met my gorgeous gf at the time, for the first time, at the airport and within ten minutes we were in the car passionately kissing and an hour later having a romantic dinner and within half an hour of that in bed together in a hotel room? Don't listen to Phineas J. Incel, kids.
This movie was such an iconic part of my life as a young man. Barbara was so beautiful ryan seemed like such a great guy the background of San Francisco. Her voice is stunning she looks beautiful she's funny and intelligent I was so in love with women like this. But now look at it all she's a Harpy, San Francisco is rotting it turned out Ryan is a smug self-centered ****. Please somebody comment my youth my dreams everything I believed in all seems of gone down the toilet. San Francisco just a **** hole now. I married a woman much like Barbara had strong intelligent beautiful. Full of herself from the woman's movement that she's destroyed our relationship our children everything gone.
Did anyone see a white cell Phone in her back pocket when she's sliding off the piano.. Strange..
As it the 1970s no cell phones but certainly a white pen!
It’s a folded-up letter. Later in the scene she pulls it out of her back pocket and gives it to him.
@@BrettTwinSavage I think it might be a pen sticking out of that pocket. Actors write notes on their scripts between scenes and takes. As a producer I was always removing pens from pockets prior to the shot.
@@BrettTwinSavage Sorry sorry David. You are right. Please ignore.
@@lucindaarmour4685 No problem! That’s an interesting little anecdote!
Ryan O Neal was hot then.
In the beginning she was great, but then her mind took a tumble and she became lame.
Peter Bogdanovich. Love that guy.
Ryan was so cute.
