Nostalgia, memories of lonely nights listening to fm radio and playing this beautiful song by Carpenters. Thank you for sharing such beautiful vinyl and such great sound. November 3, 2020
One of those beautiful voice! Karen you was special in my memories. Gone to soon, but not forgotten. Even nowadays love listening to your lovely songs. 🎼🎧🎶👀Rip Karen.🙏🏻
When I was young I'd listen to the radio Waitin' for my favorite songs When they played I'd sing along It made me smile Those were such happy times And not so long ago How I wondered where they'd gone But they're back again Just like a long lost friend All the songs I loved so well Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o Still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's So fine When they get to the part Where he's breakin' her heart It can really make me cry Just like before It's yesterday once more Lookin' back on how it was In years gone by And the good times that I had Makes today seem rather sad So much has changed It was songs of love that I would sing to then And I'd memorize each word Those old melodies Still sound so good to me As they melt the years away Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o Still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's So fine All my best memories Come back clearly to me Some can even make me cry Just like before It's yesterday once more Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o Still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's So fine Every Sha-la-la-la Every Wo-o-wo-o Still shines Every shing-a-ling-a-ling That they're startin' to sing's So fine
Thanks for this version. Again, I'm not an expert but I've listened to previous vinyl pressings of this song and I believe this is definitely an earlier (if not original) mix, which I happen to prefer more. The more modern version mixed numerous times by Karen's brother added more reverb, color, bass, EQ etc. The original recordings are more "analog" sounding while the new mixes are more "digital".
Yep, this sounds like the original Now & Then Version which has the organ during the buildup and the tambourine in the chorus. Most modern releases are based off the 1991 mix. The only thing that I don't quite like about this one is the harp and chimes in the second verse is really faint. The 1985 version is my favourite because the harp/chime is much clearer and so is the extra piano note after "just like before" which is missing in the newer mixes. EDIT: Actually this is a later mix. The original one doesn't have the electric guitar.
Pop Chart Peaks: Cash Box & Record World 1, Billboard 2 - Adult-Contemporary Peak: 1 - UK Peaks: 1 (MM), 2 (BMRB, NME) Much prefer this mix to Richard's later futzings of this.
@vincent Chen yeah man I agree with you playing carpenters songs are best in vinyl. I'm new in vinyls but I could say listening on it is very diff from the digital one that I grew up with. A huge difference . The clarity and the warmness of vinyl catches me
Really great. One of my favourite songs reproduced properly. I hate the remixed CD version of this song. What cartridge are you using on the turntable? Cheers again.
the SL 110A was equally as good table wise. I have a Stanton arm and base and Decca GOLD stylus and platter matter mats for supression. My sound cant be far off this quality. As well I am thru a Haffler pre amp and Haffler 500 amp and an EDC Sound Shaper III, 72 band equilizer to Infinity 3 and Infinity 2 speaker sets,...with a Bose sub woofer coffee table.... if my ribs vibrate and my ears cant hear distortion,...it means my records are clean. OLD gear isn't necessarily old,...for me it seems its all about the quality of the vinyl now a days,...bootlegs and pressing types....example,..I have 13 Pink Floyd original pressing records,...Bowie, Joplin, Zeppelin, Doors, Cream, Stones, Beatles, Deep Purple, bootlegs....on thick plastic
I compared the cd to the vinyl version and seems like they added so much bass to the cd. The voices are no where near as crisp as they are on the vinyl.
i tried for years to find a cd with the same vinyl version because i don't like the cd version(it is like a remix version)have changed the version of this song on cd.Does anyone know why they put a remix version of yesterday once more in all carpenters cds???
You're definitely right. This vinyl version is totally better. Out of curiosity, I compared original recordings from the vinyl to the newer remixed versions and although the originals aren't up to modern audio standards to the limitations of analog recording in their times, I think they sound much better. I hate to say it but Karen's brother kinda went on the same direction as George Lucas did with his films and updated everything he could on these songs such as additional reverb, EQ, bass, volume control, re-recording of instruments etc. These earlier mixes tend to have less power and punch but are more detailed with a more balanced sound stage.
buen sonido buena imagen , pero ¿¿ porque cortas los segundos finales ????? eso es una falta de respeto al publico good sound good image, but why do you cut the final seconds ????? , that is disrespectful to the public
Great tune. Sounds like the version on Now and Then. Richard made some the best recordings. It doesn't like the mid 80s remix to my ears. The drums were more ,intense in the 80s version.
Great voice, one of the very best! She is amazing!
A thing about good quality vinyls is that you almost think that person that sings is in the same room with you. The sound is crystal clear.
If you grew up without vinyl and love music I feel sorry for you.
More Carpenters!!
Very clean sound on a song
Amazing voice and arrangements, Beautiful!

When I was young
I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs
When they played I'd sing along
It made me smile
Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine
When they get to the part
Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more
Lookin' back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine

@@FrankyboyLegend ...sadly thin vinyl, not a first go around, and remixed,...but DAMN!!...its yesterday once more!
Ha sido genial que integraran esta melodía al repertorio de música en (vinyl), pongan mas música de Los Carpenters.

Carlos E. León Campos no es que sea excesiva en agudos. Así es el arreglo, y ella tiene que cantar en ese registro.
so Beautiful

Agreed, she and her brother ruled the air waves of the early 70’s.

I will always like vinyl but to me, and this is just my opinion. You cant compare to the digitally remastered with an expensive pair of earbuds.

Pretty good drummer too, if my memory is right.
