Too good...my father use to travel Pune Mumbai up down thrice a week by Deccan queen from 1971 till 2004. I remember traveling with my dad in that era...in Deccan Pragati and Sinhagarh express (double deker) thanks for posting this video. Pune Mumbai Monsoon journey's are the best. M glad you had actually took the initiative to shot the video with a cam corder in those days.
Hats off to your dad for being so committed to his work - 33 years, wow! I agree that the Ghats are so awesome during monsoon. I am glad you enjoyed the video :-)
First time seen Non AC first class chair car Interiors a very rare coach, Firstly I thought it was just same as AC chair car coach just 2×2 seats difference but I can see the chairs are wide and must be more comfortable than normal AC chair car.
As a child I always fascinated by Deccan queen.....we used to make fantasy stories in our group ,all aged 9-10...relived the memories by this video...thanx mani sir.
great share...recalled my young days of 1998-2000..pune-mumbai-pune frequent travel..and enjoying the tasty snacks onboard due to attached pantry car on these trains..👍
You are legendary Railfan Mr. Mani Sir. I never ever thought that I will see WCM Series locomotives again but you fulfilled my wish virtually, thank u so much
Indrayani, Deccan exp, Sinhagad, Pragati all had pantry cars with awesome service and food until railways decided to scrap pantry service for distance less than 200km. Pragati had diwadkar caterers and tea was served in Cup and saucer in ACCC.
19:37 The DC/Direct Current EMUs with the diamond shaped pantographs are known as WCU 1 and WCU 15. I watched videos of them on UA-cam but sadly they ended their service on the 9th of April 2016. They served Mumbai/Bombay for 91 Years of service and now they retired and never came back into service yet to be replaced by the AC/Alternating Current EMUs but I don’t know what the Mumbai AC EMUs are called.
But they’re not retired anymore. They are now in service again! The workers decided to bring back the old EMUs to life to run on the Mumbai/Bombay suburban railway again. So they converted them into AC traction by fitting the AC Z shaped pantographs on top of the moter cars and removing the DC Diamond shaped pantographs off the moter cars. Then next they repainted their Brown and Cream livery into Blue and Cream livery with two red stripes. After they converted and repainted them they are now back in service again in AC traction and Blue and Cream livery with two red stripes and ruled Mumbai once again for the second time in 94 Years after retirement. And I’m happy to see the old local trains again! 😊
I was here to catch a glimpse of crocs, in fact I found one in a video of yours, but ended up thanking the noble lady who encouraged you spend a fortune for a cam. Stay blessed 🙏.
Great work sir. You not only seem quite an enthusiast but also far ahead of your time, as buying a video camera was a big luxury those days , and you were shooting rail journeys in those days with your video camera. I just hope your friends and family did not make fun of this hobby of yours in those days. Great work sir.
Fortunately, I was able to afford a video camera because I was already worked in US by that time. But it was still very expensive - over $1000. I had also started IRFCA by then, hence, was able to connect with other railfans :-)
@@ManiVijay I thought I was alone and felt weared about it. But thanks to people like you , now I feel that being a rail fan is ok and a real thing. Also $1000 in those days was a real big deal.

I am extremely fortunate to have lived that ERA .. Indian railways should reintroduce WCM 2 class of locomotive engines as they spell a magic on tracks. We used to board Indrayani express from Dadar at 5:53 am .....Can never forget the aroma of piping HOT and spicy Batata vada at Karjat station early morning 8:30 am.... I was 10 then (Malgudi Days aired on Doordarshan), and still remember the aroma and out of the world taste of these TWO vadas just for Rs 5/- and that too packed inside clean Butter paper. Where is the quality now ? Careless corrupt politicians, Human greed and unchecked population has destroyed this country.
Karjat Khopoli was a non electrified single line. No Khopoli locals back then. Khopoli Panvel didn’t exist. Even Thane Turbha was not operational for passenger trains.
Mani sir, i regularly watch your videos. They are really interesting . However, in this video in the title the month is written July however at the start of the video it is showing June. As usual your shooting is very nice.
Bombay has changed a lot, so do its railways... There were very less slums beside tracks than that of now... Also there were not that much high rises... Now from Dadar to CST, we will have to look up through the window to see all the tall buildings...
Thank you sir for the reply. Your videos are really awesome. Gives a glimpse of how Indian railways were in the 90's and how far they've come in terms of technology and all the other aspects. I wasn't even born when you filmed this footage 😅. I noticed the curious look on the faces of people when you got down at Dadar station and were filming 😜 and the old bulb indicator on the platform showing VT.
