Musical Narrative | Paul Revere's Ride: The Landlord's Tale
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- On April 5, 1860, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) climbed to the belfry of Boston's Old North Church, where almost a century earlier bells tolled the warning that the British were coming. The visit inspired him to write his classic poem that immortalized Paul Revere and the beginning of America's War of Independence. Illustrations by Charles Santore. Narration and Music Composition by Warren Oree. Musicians: Adam Faulk, piano; Greg "JuJu" Jones, drums and percussion; Warren Oree, acoustic bass.
This project accompanied the exhibition Charles Santore: Fifty Years of Art and Storytelling, the first ever retrospective of Santore, on view at Woodmere Art Museum February 17 through May 13, 2018.

My students were riveted all through the whole video. This doesn't usually happen with my students who have different abilities. Thank you so much!!!
Ignore comment below - the music isn’t too loud and really enhances the poem and story - great reading too
This brings back a wonderful memory of my mother. She would be turning 89 but she passed a few years ago. She had to memorize this in high school. One night, while she was in the hosptial for a broken ankle, I think, about 7 years ago, it was my turn to stay with her. It was almost 1am and I was about to leave but told her I would stay if she wanted me to. We thought she had dementa fairly bad, when suddenly she started reciting this poem. I was amazed at how much of it she remembered. I didn't even know she knew it. Her mind was so alert that night, and that was such a gift. That night was such a gift.
What a beautiful thing! Thank you for sharing this :)
Love this poem, had to learn it in middle school, to this day I still know it by heart and cherish it
Thank you for this rendition. After listening to many readings of the poem, this is the one I chose to share in my English class because of the combination of a wonderful narrative voice, the beautiful music and the graphics. You're helping to make my job easier!
A lot of people here are watching this as an assignment (myself included), so please, thank your teachers
Who is your teacher?
I love this so much - I always read this to my students, but this is so much better!!!!
I listened to this in class because it was our poem
Our little 6 year old learned a lot from this video that his teacher used as part of a lesson, thank you for making this video for children to learn some history.
These guys need to do MANY more poems! The interpretation is superb!
Great blend of music, art and the famous poem!
This is SO WELL DONE! Thank you for sharing it!
My 8th graders loved it! Thank you!
Paul got arrested, he never said the British are coming, and the lights weren't even for him.
@@i2pd we know.
Stacy Cox boi
@@i2pd The beauty of this is introducing poetry to my inner city kids - then we compared the poem to what really happened - it's a wonderful literary teaching tool for language arts and social studies and done in such a way that kids from all different backgrounds can enjoy and engage. It led to writing and stepping into the shoes of how Paul Revere might have felt. And discussion of fighting for what you believe in. Ah! A teachable moment! Never throw the baby out with the bath water just because the temperature isn't perfect!
Good stuff!!!
Everything here is Beautiful.
this is AWESOME! Love it. Thanks
This us wonderful! Thank you!
....I memorized this in the late 560s or early 60s... myself and my 2 brothers each had to memorize a poem a week - and recite it on Sunday nights/... thought it was a pain at the time - but was 'good training'...DAMN GOOD training as it turned out - I'm 74...
Tonight is the 250th anniversary of that fateful night! Thank you so much for this great presentation and for sharing your amazing talent!
Marvelous mixture of voice, art and music! Highly recommended!!

This is brilliant, the best rendering of music and art and the written word to be heard for a long time. Kudos, fellows - you did this work, and the work of that day, honor. And we are shirttail descendants of Patrick Hendry, who was meeting in Philadelphia with the Second Continental Congress. Many thanks for this.
I had goosebumps the entire time I watched this. Thank you. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!❤✝️🇺🇸
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME! KALISPELL, MT. 7/2/21

What a wonderful reading of "Paul Revere’s Ride: The Landlord’s Tale."
It's an exciting treatment of Paul Revere's ride to alert the Sons of Liberty.
I was reading to my children about this part of American History and this was such a great performance! The music, the reading-- captivating! Thank you

Paul Revere never shouted The British Are Coming! if he had shouted that he would have been shot dead within minutes.he rode from town to town to some of his fellow friends and warned them that the british were coming. Before his ride Revere warned Colonel Conant and other local Sons of Liberty about recent events in Boston and verifying that they had seen his signals in the North Church tower. Then he set off on his ride that only lasted for about 20 to 30 minutes. He rode from house to house of people who were part of the militia that the British were coming. The operation was meant to be conducted as discreetly as possible since scores of British troops were hiding out in the Massachusetts countryside. Paul Revere was captured by the regulars the British (The British were also known as the regulars). the british captured and arrested in Lexington and never made it to Concrod where he had to go. He told the British at gunpoint of the army's movement from Boston, and that British army troops would be in some danger if they approached Lexington, because of the large number of hostile militia gathered there.
What a wonderful performance!
Yes!
A great message for this day and hour !
This is simply outstanding. It's a reminder of why all of us should resist the over-reach of government intruding on our liberties, such as is happening today.
This is a great resource! I teach Middle School ELA. My students found this poem incomprehensible last year. They'll love this video! It will make it so much easier for them to understand. Thanks for all the effort it took to put it together.
Great video, and good pictures.

MAGNIFICENT !! Everything in this video is of the highest quality. . . The reading, -Warren Oree, you are a genius- the drums and percussion, the piano. Love the poem as well. I am not an American, but my daugther went to an American/international school, and she had to study about Paul Revere.
I read her USA history books after she left for college. Love music and love history. Thank you again for this MAGNIFICENT video. July 4th, 2020
