When you hear the story of Paul Revere, it sounds as if he were the only rider. This is not the case. There were several other riders who started out at the same time Revere left---each taking a slightly different path to guarantee that one of them would successfully worn the colonists that the British were coming.

I understood that Revere, who really had a more French sounding name, was unable to complete his mission. A young woman took over and successfully warned the colonist. This was on a history channel program.

This has many problems
April 18th 1775 British soldiers were on Boston Common, on land, not on sea ferrying vessels. They did not make an "attack" but rather were in Boston since May of 1774.
Revere had his horse taken and was not given one.
Also the objective was not to capture rebel leaders in Lexington. That was a fear of Dr. Joseph Warren and was a reason he sent Revere and Dawes to Lexington. The official orders from General Thomas Gage to Lt. Col. Frances Smith was to capture or destroy supplies and gunpowder in Concord. The mis understanding comes not only from Dr. Warren's purpose for Paul Revere and Dawes but also letters from London giving instruction to General Gage leading the Crown Forces in Massachusetts

Thank you. If you listen to the piece all the way through, I think you'll see that some of those points are addressed. And yes, they were intending to destroy supplies, but indeed, Adams and Hancock were not certain of that.

I am just wondering... How did the British Head off Paul Revere.. He had to have at least an hours start on them...

It was night and it was diffuclt to see. The British "happened upon" the riders---it wasn't so much that the British caught up with them. Everyone was on different routes.
