I'm never buying wine AGAIN! I made 8 jugs (don't judge me hehe) on my first run...and they were all excellent and STOUT. Cranberry Pomegranate, Apple, and Black Cherry Cranberry (personal favorite and strongest) were my flavors of choice...going to start some to be ready as Christmas gifts ..Thanks Paw Paw!
Ha. You remind me of my father. DoingITCheap is an understatement. I would never do this, but let's say you were unemployed and on government assistance. You could still use that aid to buy these ingredients and do this at home, when you might not be able to afford store bought wine. I was raised in the woods in Mississippi. I am telling you man country folks are the most resilient and most Ingenius folks out there.
Hello Pawpaw. I made grape and apple wine. Wow! I don't even like wine but i love this stuff! Thank you for the easy recipe. You're greatly appreciated.
PawPaw, I make your wines all the time, I am in South Carolina, I know your higher above sea level than we are, and many other factors but I thought I would pass this on, I started to pour my wine thru coffee filters on racking. I put 4-6 coffee filters together and slowly pour the wime thru into the new jars. I have not seen any sediments in the past 8 months I have done this. It works on all flavors
I attached a little piece of a plastic cocktail stick about an inch at the bottom of my syphon tube to keep a little distance off the bottom of my bottle, just lowered it slowly then syphoned with out an disturbance to the sediment, worked a treat
"Oh my god! It'll knock you down!" he says as he brings the glass close to the camera, even though we can't get a whiff of it lol As a viewer, I appreciate this kind of energy from a content creator! PS got a couple of Welches bubbling away as I type this. :)
Great video. I brewed beer for years but don’t any more. One trick I used was when the fermentation was over, I’d refrigerate the fermented beer (in the fermenter) and it would make the yeast cake solid. No issues with racking the yeast from the bottom. Would work great for this small batch wine.
Another comment: Don't throw away the empty juice bottles. Rinse them out, dry them and re-use them. They are great for storing rice, beans, sugar, ...etc.
PawPaw I do like so much how you positioned yourself closer to the ground when you were sampling your new brew. I have to say, I've used the same technique to lessen the distance to the ground in case something catastrophic were to happen during the quality control session. Being of northeastern Italian heritage we are quite well versed in the ways of wine and especially of grappa. To perhaps give you a hand I will offer some advice for your next syphoning hose: tie/wire a stick about 3/4" past your hose end, or as deep as your sediment is so as not to pick up the dregs/sediment at the bottom of your container. Since your bottle is square you could also put it in a 90-degree holder held at a 45-degree angle to allow the maximum liquid without sediment to be extracted. Once racked, attempt to keep the bottles inclined like was previously described to facilitate decanting anew. Hopefully, this will be of use to you.
I take my wine and freeze it solid. That kills the yeast totally and causes it to gel up on the bottom. Then i rack it. But with the Fast Ferment system i use for my beers you do not have to rack. A new batch of Paw Paws Apple wine is on its way in my one Fast Ferment! It should be better than the experiment with the wine yeast. Nasty... Too dry! I will send some pics if you like Paw Paw.
Saw your video yesterday and started two bottles last night, a cranberry and apple wine fermentation with juice. I used the same amount of sugar and yeast for both. The Fleischman's yeast used in both was from the same jar. The sugar used in both was from the same box. Both bottles are the same brand and contain only filtered water, juice concentrate, and ascorbic acid. Stored them in the same place side by side. The cranberry seems to be more active than the apple. Glad to hear that this is normal. The juice cost about $7.00 total. I already had the sugar and yeast. Again, thank you for the recipe.
21:49 Was the best part of the whole video! That made me ROLL on the floor laughing. Thanks for the videos PawPaw. I'm starting my first batch today! Edit: That may be the label... "PawPaw's Holy Sh!t Wine"
Just made some Apple Juice wine. First time, 1 gallon tree top Apple juice, 2 cups sugar, and 1 tsp bread Yeast, cause i didn't know at the time there was Wine yeast. hehehe Mixed it, Crack the lid open just enough to release pressure when i squeeze it. taped it in place. Setting in Closet. MIght be to cold. might go for closet with Hotwater heater ... Watching your videos. I am stoked on this new hobby. Love you
Hey paw paw when racking my wine, what i do is use a doll rod about 6 inches longer than the height of the bottle you are racking. Then I use electric tape and tape the syphon hose about 3/8 of an inch above the bottom of the doll rod, this keeps the hose above the sediment. Try this on your next bottle, it works like a charm.
Thank You PawPaw! I got my cranberry wine started a few weeks ago (in the plastic jug it came in, just like what you used) and it's still bubbling away! I used Red Star bread yeast in the packets because it doesn't have any "Sorbitan Monostearate" in it (it seems to have some bad issues associated with it, so I figured since it doesn't cost any more without it might as well be on the safe side). So we haven't even tasted my first batch yet and my hubby decided I was having so much fun he bought me a 3 gallon bucket wine making kit! LOL! I guess since I'm about to be "retired" he figured I should earn my keep somehow. If it's any good, I think this is what we'll be giving as Christmas presents this year. I REALLY appreciate you explaining, and showing, the racking process as I needed to know about it, since I'm a total newbie at this. Hugs to you, your wife and the pups!
I see why i aint get my presents as a kid..saint nick was at home getting wasted lmao i made this before..gets you messed up...im about to sub you are entertaining sir
It could just be me, but watching your initial reaction has me thinking they might’ve had just a twinge of leftover ‘fizziness’ …which’s perfectly fine because that’ll calm down in short order once it’s racked, filtered and bottled. Regardless, all of those flavor profiles sound delicious …Skål!🥂
I just tried your recipe with Walmart grape juice, and it is the sweetest wine I’ve had! It will sneak up on you if you aren’t careful. By far my favorite wine.

Paw Paw first I would like to thank you for your service. It's 4:40 am 01/22/2022, just mixed-up a batch of sugar wash, my first batch of anything. Love your channel.
This is really good, was a hit with my friends and my brother. Used Welch’s grape juice, green grape juice, and apple juice, my personal favorite was the green grape. One thing I noticed is I prefer it young, aging tends to give it a certain twang I’m not a fan of. Doesn’t make it a bad or inferior wine at all, green wine has been a staple drink throughout history.

just made 1st batch - 1/2 gal. peach. its good but kinda mild.. started a gallon of white grape and gal. of apple. the beer store is 25 miles away. hope this turns out well.
Hi, PawPaw's This is the second video I have watched of you and Boy did you make my day. As you said in the first video. I was crying with laughter when you tasted that wine you're so funny. It's almost 8 o'clock in the morning Ha ha :-) I'm going to subscribe because I want to make some wine. Thank you PawPaw! I just got my sour cherry wine ready and it is probably the tastiest alcoholic beverage I have had in my whole life. You sir are a genious! Now I will only wait until the room stops spinning before I go to bed... :)
I started off many years ago making dandelion wine. I used cheese cloth to rack it and it worked fine. In high school every summer break I'd throw a party and we'd get into my wine. In my senior year book everyone referred to me as the little ole winemaker. Many happy memories.
I just subscribed to your channel and put my first batch of Welch's grape juice with sugar and yeast in my hot water heater closet. It won't be ready for 4 weeks, so I have time to buy tubing and Mason jars for racking. I just hope I'm half as happy with the outcome as you are. I've been wanting to make my own wine for many years. I'm very excited. Many thanks for all your help and may God bless you. 😃
My drill asked if anyone knew what KISS meant. I hollered "Keep it simple stupid ". He politely said, "Your parents weren't very nice to you, we're they?". God I love great memories
Welch's made in Paw Paw Mi.Made with just grapes, most other is cut apple juice cont.(cheap and imported). Like to see a video of you drinking a whole bottle.....fan from Mi.
I like the occasional glass of wine, but dont indulge very often. How long can I keep a batch of this in the fridge before it has to be either consumed or trashed?
A friend of mine uses cheese cloth (I think?) to filter his,he only filters and racks it one time, but he makes 55 gallons at a time in plastic barrels. His grape wine is good, but dandelion sucks,I have no taste for that kind.He makes lots of different kinds.I like your easy wine making PawPaw,no bullshit to go through!!
Love your wine vids PawPaw. I have several gallons of wine brewing at the moment. Grape, apple, and peach are my favorites. Years ago I was pretty heavy into brewing beer/mead/wine and had all the fancy equipment the brew snobs demand you use. I keep it simple nowadays and still have just as much fun doing it! I've been making "Rocket Fuel" recently that is very similar to your "The Most Peculiar Wine in the World Homemade VERY STRANGE". I freezer distil it a few times and it turns into a fairly potent beverage that makes a great mixer. When making "Sugar Wine" it really helps to add 1/4 cup of raisins per gallon to your batch since you don't have the natural yeast nutrients that are in the juice you use when making standard wine. You will notice a serious fermentation improvement if you do this and it doesn't affect the flavor at all.
HI Paw Paw, I just started my 1st muscadine wine. I mashed it added a little water my sugar and yeast. Its in the tub. I put cheese cloth an tin foil with a hole in it. Wish me luck! The only container I had was a wide mouth. Hubby surprised me with the muscadines and asked if I could make wine. Lol I am giving it a shot.
You're absolutely right, Paw Paw. Homemade wine tastes better and has more character than any store bought wine I've ever had. I once made 5 gallons of wine from concentrated fruit punch. Just add the right amount of water, some sugar, some yeast, and you've got a beautiful pink, fruity, sweet wine. It's great stuff! Oh, and like you, I don't filter. I just pour out of the container or siphon a bottle if I've made 5 gallons. Great video and great seeing you enjoying the fruits of your labor!
After watching 10 different complicated & conflicting videos about wine making my head was spinning! Thank you for taking all the fuss and worry out of it. We've got 3 batches going in the closet now :) Very fun!
haha its awesome your name is papaw thats what i called my grandpa! Also just made my wine in the bottle! Although my dog licked the cap XD but everything is fermenting and the bubbles are in action! Cant wait thanks papaw!
I was looking for a real old fashioned way of making wine- without the fuss. Not cheap, just lazy lol. You are my new favorite person! Keep it up pops! You are amazing and make me laugh xxoo
I'm just blown away at the taste. I followed your direction to a T and it came out amazing. For me at least. lol I racked it today so its going to set it in the fridge for a couple like you said then another rack but its great. Thanks so much buddy. Can't wait for the holidays now. Cheer's!!
The japanese make an excellent plum wine but i think it would ve considered a fortified wine. You use a high proof liquor and unripe plum. Score the green plums and put in a jar. Fill with clear liquor. Let set for a long time. The longer the better. Ive ordered the jar needed for thevtraditional method but its nothing special. Just a large jar with a lip so you can fill with water then place an upturned bowl to form a primitive air lock system. You could easily fo the samecwith a mason jar
Your sure right bob it's hard to beat those Concord grapes ! I got some welches white grape brewing and some raspberry white grape, mixed berry and regular welches brewing now my uncle used to make it the same way and ever since I seen your first video on it I have been brewing I've made some apple as well and it took forever like 5 weeks even after it stopped when you pour it it's very lightly carbonated and it's only the apple I found to do that.
well doing it cheap is good, but if you want higher alcohol content I would use red star yeast, with the bread yeast you are only getting about 5% alcohol, with red star you can choose a yeast to take it up to 18% alcohol, now you can add tannin's to get a drier wine just use a tea bag before you add the yeast, you can also make yeast nutrient by taking a hand full of raisins put in a small pot cover the raisins with water and simmer unlit they are soft just drop the juice from the raisins in your batch, you can also make homemade wine yeast by getting an orange, Raisins, and boiled water wait for the water to cool squeeze the juice from the Orange add the water and about 25 Raisins put this all in a mason jar put a lid on it and shake it up, burp once a day and shake this will take about 5 days this will boost up your alcohol content, give it a try, I am making banana wine right now I am making 6 gallons.
I've brewed beer and it' much more complicated and a lot of pitfalls that can make it taste like crap. I've never tried this but I can't wait to give a shot. He's just like my Uncle Krutch and a true soul. I believe everything he says because, his Momma didn't raise no liar. I'll be sure to let you know how the first batch turns out. Thank ya PawPaw!
Hey PawPaw, I made this 2 weeks and 1 day ago just like you said. Put it in my water heater closest in the garage and left it alone. I peeped on it 3 days ago but did not mess with it other than shining a flash light on it. There was still some bubbling so I closed it back up in closet. Tonight no more bubbling. I am sitting here now drinking my first glass of it. OH MY PAW PAW, THIS IS SOME GOOD WINE! And my wife likes it too! I have just bought my last bottle of wine. I LIKE, I LIKE, I LIKE!!! PS: we made it from a 3qt welches grape juice. adjusted the recipe by draining 3 cups juice off, adding 2 1/4 cup sugar and 3/4 tsp yeast. and shaking well.
Also, I can't wait to grill a good steak (smoke it on my smoker, then reverse sear it to med rare) then drink a cup of this along with it. I think it will go GREAT with it!
to me, this is like a merlot flavor, with a slightly sweet after taste with the alcohol content of a port. Almost like you are drinking a merlot, sweet wine and a port all together at the same time!
i think the apple was my fav of what all i made. did watermellon wine that turned out great. thanks again pawpaw for all the great videos. you have been my video buddy on projects i been working on. got alot of good info and idea from ya. thanks again
I like doing it cheap, add more sugar when I want to drink it sweet. 4 more weeks and it will be done. I'll grab my guitar and a glass, gonna sip it and not drink it fast. Oh yeah it will be fun. lol
I started my wine making hobby by watching your videos Pawpaw. Now 4 yrs later I feel like I can make wine from practically anything, juice, frozen fruit, fresh fruit, canned or jarred fruit. Also vegetables, I've made, pumpkin, carrot, sweet potato wines too. I'd love to see you dip your toe into making a fruit wine from fruit video. I bet it would be fun for you and also get a ton of views. Basically you need 4lbs of fruit per gal and about 4-5 cups of sugar, then yeast and water. If you want to see it done easy watch Philbilly Moonshines wine making videos on YT, he shows how simple it is. Again thanks for the start you gave me in this wonderful hobby.
Man, you have made my life better. I am in a country where spirits are not allowed. After watching your vlogs and waiting I am in a better place. Keep doing you bud!!
My dad made homemade wine out of whatever he had. Grapes, elderberry, strawberry, etc. His saying was that his wine “it’ll put your little shoes away!” Which meant it packed a punch. His grape wine was my favorite. It had no alcohol taste to it. It tasted like Welch’s grape juice. That’s why it was so lethal.😁
Hey Paw Paw.My wife and i took the extra two cups from each of our juice bottles and mixed them all together, and it turned out great.Actually we liked it the most other than the grape.I mean it tasted most like a real high end wine.Just thought we would share that with you. Thanks for all you have taught us.

leave it for a few months it will taste even better if you have the willpower
My drill asked if anyone knew what KISS meant. I hollered "Keep it simple stupid ". He politely said, "Your parents weren't very nice to you, we're they?".
God I love great memories
Drill, as in Driller?
No, no they weren’t.
Lasts a LONG time in the fridge, like any storebought wine.
Those thumbs down people were a bunch of wine snobs that have chemistry sets at home.
Pawpaw got the shivers and a tapping. Bless your heart your personality is amazing.
The raisens added nothing to the flavor or smell of the wine?
That should be called Paw Paw's WJW....wiggly jiggly wine!!! LMBO
Who knew Santa spent the off season getting hammered on his own homemade hooch?
This the type of hooch that make ya feel fuzzy about your own cousin !
😂 what!
@@agentcodydanks it's a southern thing ! Like my sister and I always said, if we hoochin, best believe we gone be smoochin!
PawPaw for president ✌️
I'll filter mine through a " Brita filter " , after the racking ...
I believe that's called the PawPaw wiggle. Glad it turned out great! ;)
After watching 10 different complicated & conflicting videos about wine making my head was spinning! Thank you for taking all the fuss and worry out of it. We've got 3 batches going in the closet now :) Very fun!
I look forward to a follow up in 30 days !!
haha its awesome your name is papaw thats what i called my grandpa! Also just made my wine in the bottle! Although my dog licked the cap XD but everything is fermenting and the bubbles are in action! Cant wait thanks papaw!
Sounds great!
So, Fleischmans yeast or any other type of bread yeast will work? It don’t have to be a brewers yeast?
Correct !
@@DoingItCheap thanks PawPaw! I’m loving your videos man! ✨👏🏼😎✨
I was looking for a real old fashioned way of making wine- without the fuss. Not cheap, just lazy lol. You are my new favorite person! Keep it up pops! You are amazing and make me laugh xxoo
Thank you. I hope you will subscribe to my channel and share the videos you like.
Try that apple w a half cup to a cup of brown sugar instead of all white sugar it's nice😉
I'm just blown away at the taste. I followed your direction to a T and it came out amazing. For me at least. lol I racked it today so its going to set it in the fridge for a couple like you said then another rack but its great. Thanks so much buddy. Can't wait for the holidays now. Cheer's!!
I've got a couple gugs in the process right now...can't wait to try it....
That reaction to the last sip of the first one....
😁🤣. 👍🏻👍🏻
Got some blackberry plum aging right now
The japanese make an excellent plum wine but i think it would ve considered a fortified wine.
Try pineapple juice. Really enjoy the vids, good job and keep up the great work.
Buddy of mine did the pineapple..... claimed he got 20% alcohol !
well doing it cheap is good, but if you want higher alcohol content I would use red star yeast, with the bread yeast you are only getting about 5% alcohol, with red star you can choose a yeast to take it up to 18% alcohol, now you can add tannin's to get a drier wine just use a tea bag before you add the yeast, you can also make yeast nutrient by taking a hand full of raisins put in a small pot cover the raisins with water and simmer unlit they are soft just drop the juice from the raisins in your batch, you can also make homemade wine yeast by getting an orange, Raisins, and boiled water wait for the water to cool squeeze the juice from the Orange add the water and about 25 Raisins put this all in a mason jar put a lid on it and shake it up, burp once a day and shake this will take about 5 days this will boost up your alcohol content, give it a try, I am making banana wine right now I am making 6 gallons.
💀😭🤣😂 got to be some good stuff man he dancing and twitching like a crazy crack head bruh 😅 i love this dude 👍
I love it when a plan comes together !!!
i think the apple was my fav of what all i made. did watermellon wine that turned out great. thanks again pawpaw for all the great videos. you have been my video buddy on projects i been working on. got alot of good info and idea from ya. thanks again
my neighbours hate me to , but we have no housing association so im fine
nice song
I made some wine from white grape and cherry juice after watching your videos and holy crap is it good and stout.
You need to enter AGT that voice is 👌👍
New to the channel and I licked my lips just watching him taste it. Mannn, I’m running to Publix
Paw paw, I made your recipe for wine. The wine is sooo good. I did Cranberry, and a apple. Waiting for the grape and the white grape.
I like doing it cheap, add more sugar when I want to drink it sweet. 4 more weeks and it will be done.
I'll grab my guitar and a glass, gonna sip it and not drink it fast. Oh yeah it will be fun. lol
New subscriber here...Dude, you are friggin awesome!
Welcome aboard!
Best video on basic wine making on UA-cam.... this ole Tennessee boy will be making some tomorrow!!! New Subscriber and liked!!!!
Thanks ! You should watch the others on my homepage.
pawpaw,I love your style ;-)
Thank you! 😃
6:15 when u hitting it from the back and you get a whiff of that jungle juice
Again thanks for the start you gave me in this wonderful hobby.
a big thumbs up for paw paw educational and entertaining at same time
Thanks Ken !!
Man, you have made my life better. I am in a country where spirits are not allowed. After watching your vlogs and waiting I am in a better place. Keep doing you bud!!
Thank you for watching my videos. Please tell your friends about my channel !
You had me when you had to get a chair 😂. I'm going to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing
Sounded like you were channelling Pee Wee Herman with that laugh at 4:51 🤣
paw paw could you some kind of maybe like a coffee filter or two to strain the settlement out?
Yeast loves sugar pawpaw, but it loves you too. It'll leave that vitamin c for you because it cares so much.
This channel is so information and so funny😂😂 just made my first batch and now the waiting game starts! So excited for the ending result
