  • Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark is a turn-based tactical RPG developed by 6 Eyes Studio and published by Fulgrum Publishing for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, XBox One, Windows, Linux, and Mac (Of all things). It follows Kyrie, an Arbiter captain, as she tries to juggle the mystery of recent events and being branded a Marked by one of the Immortals - The game's equivalent to a Ruler. The greatest draw for the game is it's massively customizable characters and multiclassing system, but it unfortunately falls short in the story department. The question than becomes: Does the game's combat outweigh the potential stories lost within its 30-40 hour runtime?

I probably could've/should've finished this review earlier. In the time since I started properly playing this game I've beaten both StarCraft 2's Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm. I need to learn to focus more.

Great review. I have almost 100% this game. I love it. I've got a copy on PC and switch.
Story was okay... But man I love the combat and class system

Definitely, the combat and class system are stand-outs.

I especially liked the system to freely choose and equip all combatants before a fight. Also, game remembers your setup in case something went bad and you had to re-do the whole fighting sequence.

Truly, the customization is hands-down the best feature the game has. Add in the turn-based combat to further emphasize those choices and you've got the base for a fantastic SRPG.

Hey man great in dept review. Ive had this game in my backlog with a couple of years and am thinking of delving into it. Havnt played a SRPG before but Im old school being that the original FF7 to this day is still my number 1 game of all time and I played it on release in 1997. Sure theres been better games since but as far as time enjoyed in any game Ive played goes, I have to stay nothing has stuck with me throughout the years like that game has. Half Life 2 and Dark Souls coming close second. At 40 years old now indie games are generally where its at for me as I dont have time to delve into most AAA titles. As much as I want to play Elden Ring Im gonna need to take a month off to fully enjoy it because I know how Dark Souls 1, 2 and 3 all took over my life when I got into them. Theres something drawing me towards a good old strategy RPG but taking that leap and dedicating myself to learning all the systems etc is a bit daunting knowing that I dont have abundant time. I can afford maybe 2 to 3 hours in the evening to gaming these days, do you think thats enough to get the most out of this game? I largely play Metroidvania style games these days because they more jump in jump out friendly, but RPGs can be so time consuming. Im currently playing Deaths Gambit Afterlife and even that sometimes has me sacrificing sleep hours. Thanks bud, Im gonna subscribe, you deserve more, your essay style review format is great. May I suggest that when you can afford it, get a better microphone, it makes a difference. Your content is as good as Ive seen on channels with hundreds of thousands of subs, just the audio fidelity is a little sub par. Other than that keep up the good work bud. Greetings from Colombia

Hey, thanks for the comment! I appreciate the feedback.
To answer your question, Fell Seal ran me about 30 hours, but that's not taking into account the side-missions and alternate ending. 2/3 hours a night seems doable, but that honestly doesn't mean much if you don't end up enjoying it enough to keep going. The gameplay and more specifically character/class customization is a theorycrafter's dream, so there's that going for it.
Elden Ring, as great as it is and as much as I enjoyed it, is definitely one of those games where the exploration can take a significant amount of time. On the plus side, the game doesn't expect you to go through and delve into literally everything in your way. I think that's part of why my first playthrough ran 130+ hours.
EDIT: Corrected a minor spelling mistake.

Thanks for the reply. 30hrs seems short but I assume going for all the achievements would greatly increase that playtime. After 30hrs I'm usually just getting a feel for a game haha. Hey if you're into Dark Souls and like a Metroidvania too check out Deaths Gambit. It's the most souls like Metroidvania I've played so far. I'm about 30hrs in still on my first playthrough but I think I'm gonna sink at least another 30 in going for achievements. There's one in particular that's caught my eye. Finish the game in under 4hrs without leveling up and in one sitting. Gonna test my reflexes at age 40 haha. Considering I'm 30hrs in with over 100 deaths and still not finished, it should be quite the challenge haha. Cheers bud

@@shanemacbike2 Death's Gambit is one I've heard of, actually. I can't remember if it's in my wishlist or not, though. Either way, I'll keep my eye out, and thanks for the recommendation.

The theorycrafting is easily the biggest draw for me.
