Yo man, dig the review! Any chance you could start throwing a summary screen for your "Pros" and "Cons" in during the verdict? As it is now, they just kind of pop up randomly throughout the vid and are, frankly, easy to miss.
So psyched for this, but the price point is a little high for me right now; loved the demo when I played it during a Next Fest last year, and will keep an eye on it.
I assume you might be already but i am curious if you are gonna review crime boss from the epic game store i cant find a single review i trust on that game mostly IGN and i dont trust them haha
I regularly get more excited for Indie games like this than most of the big AAA titles, since the indies are where you can find games with cool concepts and new ideas like a Lovecraftian fishing game, or the other recent release Tera Nil a "reverse city builder" where you are trying to restore a blighted landscape back to nature
I adored the demo and was bummed out once it came to an end because I wanted more. Super glad that the full release does not disappoint! I will absolutely be purchasing it day one so I can get lost at sea.
I’m concurrently playing this and Dave the Diver, and together they’re like a nautically perfect vibe. When Dredge gets a bit repetitive or heavy, switch to Dave and you’re good to go!
I find the Fishing and boat management quite intriguing based on this review. Like something I would try and play on a weekend and hopefully get hooked with its gameplay and story.
Your reviews are always really insightful and thoughtful - I appreciate how much you engage with the game's overall vision, rather than focusing on minor nitpicks. You see the whole game as a piece of art -rare in game criticism! It makes your thoughts always interesting to hear. Also, as a frequent word-mispronouncer myself who always appreciates it when people let me know the real thing: At 1:50, it's pronounced "miss-shape-en" instead of "miss-happen"
I love how you say the first one thousand people who comment will be the first one thousand people who have commented. Unlike a lot of youtuber out there that bait people to like, comment, and subscribe by giving them giveaway of something you just straight up honestly telling people if they like your video they can subscribe. 👍
After visiting the The Whalers Cabin museum near Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, I always felt that whaling would make for a great horror/item management/ lovecraftian game of some kind. All the interesting shaped harpoons and the process of getting blubber and oil would make for interesting item management. So here's hoping Dredge will inspire some more lovecraftian fishing games, so maybe someday, we can get that triple AAA Lovecraftian Fisherman Red Dead Redemption game, I’ve always dreamed of.
It's a straight direct copy of another game in which I own. I just forget the name but this is exactly like that game but graphics seems better with this one.
Looks like the pacing is perfect. Its a game not a fucking movie. Most video games seem to fucking forget that and give little time to actually playing it.
I was interested in this game, very glad it's reviewing well. What's your criteria for deciding to cover smaller games like say, Pentiment, Somerville, Dredge, whenever you are not covering AAAs? I know to look forward to your AAA reviews, but the ones for smaller titles are a nice unexpected surprise.
I’ve never played a game like this before, and I’m definitely going to buy it today. All because you reviewed it. So thanks for being great at what you do!
From a cursory glance I feel this game has a tangentially similar theme and/or aesthetic to that love death robots episode where the fish come out in the desert at night. And I cannot wait to try it.
I liked it but I really wish they went way harder with the lovecraftian and madness stuff. There’s a lot of interactions with npcs that are creepy but they only happen a single time and then never again. The dockworker getting the package and then never changing after you interact with him the first time was a huge letdown. I wish the game displayed more of the impact that finding these artifacts had instead of them just being like “something’s not right” and then never elaborating or being affected by it.
What i would really like to see is a Sea Rogue modern remake, this game was so addictive, it's a treasure wreck hunting game where can upgrade your submarine to get bigger and better equipment to hunt for bigger wreck and you had the possibility to open a museum to show your collection.
I love finding games using genres I'm fascinated by introducing me to games I wouldn't have played otherwise and open up a whole new love of that style of gameplay. I think this could be my Segway. Thanks for the review my dude!
It’s segue, (Segway is the name of a 2 wheeled vehicle), but if you liked this, you should try Diver Dave. Not as weird but still pretty weird and fun, varied mechanics.
I loved Sunless Sea. So this is right up my alley. But I hope there is enough content. I would love to see text-based shore exploration like in Sunless Sea.
I remember when he used to go on and on until at the end of the video he’d talk about gameplay. Glad he finally changed things up, I love all that stuff but waiting 15 minutes before finding out how the gameplay was… in a game, had me sweating
great game, unique and well worth it- storyline is excellent. I just wish the bigger publishers would concentrate more on the game (like this one as an example) and less about parting gamers with their cash.
This reminds me of Inscryption. Where that was a horror game disguised as a card game, this is a horror game disguised as a fishing simulator. Awesome ideas these indie developers have….
Seems cool. I like how it sounded there at the end and it looks great. Don't think I'd really get into it though, but may give it a shot on a sale though the regular price seems fair.
If you're covering more of these indie gems - and thanks for this, as I bought and loved Dredge - you should take a lot at Not For Broadcast, which just came out on consoles. Insane and hilarious.
Gotta love how this little game is better than 90% of the AAA games spending 1000x the money, and still rehashing the same open world crap over and over.
Damn, pity it didn't release last week or so. Resident Evil 4 tomorrow and The Last Of Us Part 1 next week. It might be one i have to come back to because it looks great

Not a fan of day 1 DLC, especially when it's in the game making you think you can interact with it when you can't. (the locked door). Including the price of DLC pushes it well into "wait for sale" category for me. The game is good, but is a bit pricey for what it is and how long (8-10 hrs) it is. Kind of. Both are boat driving based games with lovecraftian elements. Although SS has no fishing, it does have trading and boat upgrades.
