Mudcrab Catch and Cook Northern Territory

- My mission over the next few days is to use crab pots to catch some Gulf Mudcrabs, then bring them back home to cook. And although this is a Mudcrab catch and cook episode, we're also going to find some time for fishing as well.
It's scientific name is Scylla Serrata... But they are more commonly known as the Giant Mudcrab.
And here in the Gulf of Carpentaria mudcrabs find ideal conditions for living, feeding and breeding.

I completely agree mate. Whole heartedly… but I’ve put myself into a position where my wife and I have invested everything into this UA-cam channel, and if I don’t consistently upload UA-cam videos, I don’t get paid.
And the videos I make that get all the views are down in the gulf.
So for the time being, I need to sacrifice a bit of family time. But I definitely make up for it when I’m home. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Another beauty Mikey. To paraphrase Andy, keep 'em comin' along. Yeah bastard fish spikes. Had an infected thumb from a black spot tusky spike in WA. Soaked it a few times in hot water and dettol, as hot as you can stand it (which ends up near boiling) and got an eighth inch long spike out from beside my thumb nail, eleven days later back in FNQ. Cleared up in 48 hours then.
Next run of merch needs a codfather shirt - cod with the lip ‘jewellery’ grippers

Its wonderful and a bugger when the kids like the mud crabs.... you should teach them to use the tip of the leg to help pull the rest of the meat of the legs....

It’s such a mind game this bloody UA-cam thing… the last 2 videos I’ve uploaded I put soooo much effort into. And they are my worst performing videos this year. It’s all good though. Just means I need to work harder. 💪🏼👍🏼🤠

Don't forget to throw in your prep time for a trip, and snippets of your travel to and from King Ash. Even mods on your trailer/boat, around town back in Darwin etc etc. I follow ATC, and I love all his added extras he throws in.

I’m so big, I always make the fish I catch look way smaller than what they actually are. This bloody cod was like holding a bag of cement powder. And it’s full weight coming down on my thumb like that… crikey it hurt.
I didn’t notice it too much at the time… but looking back at the footage afterwards I could see when I was “testing” and squeezing the crabs, I couldn’t use my thumb. Haha. Too excited in the moment to worry about the pain.

Yea with the temperature, it’s what you get used to I reckon mate. Hot weather is something we are very used to… so when it drops below 20 here all the locals start wearing jumpers.

Haha. Yea mate. It’s a bit of a running joke that I have purposely neglected from learning how to tie crabs. It’s the worst part of their job. Sitting there for an hour or 2 after work sitting there tying crabs. Wrecking your back.
So if I knew how to tie… I would be obligated to jump in and help. Haha.
I’ve told Ash I will learn in 2025 if it’s a good crabbing season.

I don’t get sick while moving. Both as driver and passenger. Just when we are sitting there still. Usually. But sometimes not. It’s so weird.

There is only one mate. They are based at King Ash Bay but they are called “Borroloola Houseboats”. There used to be another company, but Borroloola Houseboats bought both of their boats.
You can find them on Facebook, they have a website too I reckon. If you contact them, you’ll speak to Kylie, Scotty or Damo… I can highly recommend. 👍🏼

Bucket list is a Barramundi fishing trip. I'll trade a Tarpon trip for a Barramundi trip. Very expensive Air fair and a bit of jet lag is all it takes!
