- Eversince we purchased our first Sony body in 2016 (A7Sii) we were sold. It totally changed the way we shoot.
I was in the front lines of fans eagerly awaiting the release of the A7Siii when we got the news that we would be of the first to get our hands on one and get a chance to shoot with it!
We have never backed out of a challenge, so the 6 day time frame was not going to put us off. We decided on a concept, phoned around for a couple to use as models and drove our core team down to Cape Town - hoping for great weather and feeling super excited and privileged to be able to go on such an adventure,albeit two days of work and 3 days of travel, we were like animals released from their cages into the wild.
We were briefed about the specs beforehand, but I think nothing beats experiencing it all for yourself. The Eye - AF was one of the first things to really impress me, as was the Active Steady. In our context as wedding and commercial cinematographers who mostly follow a run and gun approach, it means we can really put away our gimbles for good.
Thirdly I was infinitely impressed with the colour science. The s-log3 image with a basic grade looked amazing with very little effort. Skin tones were next level! .
I think the Sony A7Siii is a game changer. In two days it changed the game for me personally. The creative expression that this camera will make possible, is definitely next level.

I'm so on the egde now. Deciding between this and the Pocket 6K. The image quality and versatility on the a7siii is no brainer for an one-man band like me. However the 6K is so good for VFX tracking and rotoscoping.
We sold our bmpcc 4k after shooting with the A7s3, if that helps ☺️ but seriously if you need something versatile this is the camera 💪🏻

How does one achieve that effect with footage displayed in the subject's eye?
Hi! You speed up some footage, then you nest it and rezise it to cover the eye. Create an opacity mask with a big feather value. Change opacity using keystones to time the eye opening. Play around until it looks good 👍🏻

1. did you use a variable ND filter for the 85mm?
2. curious, do you shoot in different shutter speeds to maintain 2.0 exposure for slog?

1.yes we did
2.we try to keep to the shutter rule but there were some situations that we shot on a higher shutter to keep a shallow depth of field especially with the 16 35mm, we didn't have a ND for it.
@@IanNieuwenhuizen Thanks for your beautiful video. I find that sometimes the movement is not fluid but a bit choppy. For instance at 1:24 or 1:54. I've played it at 4K and 1080p to see if it is a problem with youtube, but I still perceive it. Do you see it in your original video? Maybe is the slowing down ratio or the higher shutter speed.
@blas payri we didn't experience it to be choppie but thanks we will have a closer look! The camera is really brilliant.
Is this all internal and grades with resolve !?

10bit just looks better. I can’t watch Sony a7iii videos anymore.
I still feel there is that green cast in the skin?
Hi thank you for your comment @gtlogic we didn't feel that there was a big issue with colour casts, maybe our grading style, I personally love the new colour science. Best is to try it out yourself, brilliant camera 👏🏻👏🏻
White Motion Creative I preordered but always hated slog for that reason on a7iii. I was really disappointed with it so using HLG right now which seems better. Was hoping to get nice DR and skin and crossing my fingers this is it.
We have the A73 as well and it's definitely a whole new world! We are sure you won't be disappointed!
